The first trailer for stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia’s Sleepwalk with Me has gone online.  Birbiglia both directed and starred in the piece which tells the tale of a struggling comedian who faces a career slump and a failing relationship, amidst increasingly dangerous bouts of sleepwalking.  Fans of Birbiglia will recognize some of his signature jokes from his stand-up act by the same name.  It’s at once a humorous and touching tale that features the comedians signature Birbiglian style.  Sleepwalk with Me, also starring Lauren Ambrose, Kristen Schaal, James Rebhorn, Carol Kane , Cristin Milioti, Aya Cash, Lucy DeVito and David Wain, opens August 24th.  Hit the jump to view the trailer.

Fans of stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia (Cedar Rapids) and This American Life host Ira Glass will want to check out Sleepwalk with Me when it debuts later this summer.  The film, co-written and co-directed by Birbiglia, follows a struggling stand-up comic who is trying to balance a failing career, a rocky relationship and uncontrollable bouts of sleepwalking.  Glass co-wrote and produced the film, based on Birbiglia’s sucessful one-man show.  Sleepwalk with Me also stars Lauren Ambrose, Carol Kane, James Rebhorn and Cristin Milioti. The nominations for the 27th Annual Independent Spirit Awards were announced this morning with The Artist and Take Shelter each nabbing five nominations. In addition to The Artist and Take Shelter, Drive, 50/50, The Descendants, and Beginners will duke it out for the top prize. Absent from the Best Feature list is Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, though the film was recognized in Best Supporting Male (Corey Stoll) and Best Cinematography. Also of note, Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes landed nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Male for Martha Marcy May Marlene, and Ryan Gosling and Woody Harrelson were both singled out in Best Actor for Drive and Rampart respectively.

The trailer for David Wain‘s Wanderlust has gone online.  The movie focuses on Manhattan couple George and Linda (Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston) who are forced to move to Atlanta when George loses his job.  Moving to Atlanta is apparently a fate so terrible that it causes Aniston to scream at the heavens.  The two then move around to various locations until they land on a commune and start to feel renewed.  It looks like For Better or Worse or Did You Hear About the Morgans? if either of those movies were funny.  Wain delivered a great little gem with Role Models and it’s tough to go wrong when you throw in The State alum like Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.  There’s a bunch of great jokes in the trailer, and it isn’t even a red-band version.  Color me excited for this flick.

With Comic-Con 2011 fast approaching, we can expect a multitude of panel announcements in the coming weeks. Today, Starz has informed us that the cast of both Torchwood: Miracle Day and Spartacus: Vengeance will be appearing at the Con on Friday, July 22^nd. For Torchwood, John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and new headliners Bill Pullman, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins, Lauren Ambrose, and writer Jane Espenson will all be present. For Spartacus, Liam McIntyre, Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare, Manu Bennett, Katrina Law, and Executive Producer and Head Writer Steven S. DeKnight will appear.

Take a classic work of children’s fiction, as famous for its art as it is it’s story.  Add an idiosyncratic director with a distinct visual style.  Recipe for success, right?  Wrong.  Unfortunately, Spike Jonze’s highly-anticipated adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Caldecott Medal award-winning Where the Wild Things Are falls strangely flat.  Why after the jump…

Opening tomorrow is director Spike Jonze “Where the Wild Things Are”. As I’ve written a few times on the site…the movie is an honest look at what it’s like being a kid. The film isn’t a fantasy, and it isn’t trying to sugar coat what you do when you’re upset at the world. While some are clearly going to have issues with the way Spike chose to make “Where the Wild Things Are”, I was spellbound and loving his universe. Also, I loved the way he had characters not say things when other movies would have tons of exposition. Many of his choices are unorthodox, and as an avid moviegoer and a fan of his work, I think he made a great film.

Anyway, Warner Bros. held a press day for the film here in Los Angeles and after the jump you can watch my interview with Forest Whitaker, Catherine O’Hara and Lauren Ambrose. Each of them voices one of the wild things and they talk about the unusual way Spike had them rehearse and the way Spike chose to make the film. Watch the interview after the jump:

I’m going to lose all perspective when it finally comes time for me to see “Where the Wild Things Are”.  It’s my most anticipated movie of the year and I’m afraid I’m setting myself up to the point where I’m about to do a story with a headline, “I’m still excited for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE”.

But we’re not quite there yet as this is a real story showing off four more character banners for the film.  The previous four looked great.  These look great too.  So does the entire film.  We’re gonna have to wait a few more weeks for that last one so you’ll just have to hit the jump and enjoy these posters for now.  “Where the Wild Things Are” hits theaters on October 16th.

Like most of you, I cannot wait to see director Spike Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things Are”. Every bit of footage and every image released gets me more excited to see the final product. And with the October 16th release date a month away, the long wait for this movie is almost over. Anyway, five new images have been released and they’re after the jump. They’re cool as hell so take a look:

The first single from the upcoming “Where the Wild Things Are” soundtrack is now online and available to hear.  The song, “All is Love”, is by Karen O and The Kids and will be featured on the soundtrack that will be released on September 29th. You can get an idea of what we might expect to see and hear on October 16th when the film hits theaters by listening to the full song after the jump.

Warner Bros. has released a preview of their upcoming 2009 movies. In the preview, they’ve got updated synopsis’ along with new images from “Whiteout”, “Ninja Assassin”, “The Invention of Lying”, “The Informant!” and a few others.
