Focus Features has released the first trailer and poster for director William Eubank’s (Love) sci-fi thriller The Signal.  The story centers on a computer genius who lures three college students on a road trip across the Southwest to an eerily isolated area where they encounter…something.  Laurence Fishburne plays a creepy scientist and Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) leads the pic as one of the college students who has regained consciousness to find he’s in a waking nightmare.  This trailer highlights a visually arresting, moody, and fascinating thriller with a mystery bent.  It’s promising stuff, and I’m eager to see more.

HANNIBAL Recap: “Sakizuki”

hannibal-trailer-slice

Hannibal has truly taken on a new dimension this year, expanding its stories and building off of last year’s setup beautifully.  It’s not taking a lot of time to integrate new viewers to the series if they didn’t catch up on the first season, but kudos to it for knowing its purpose in a way that just presses forward regardless.  You’re either on this train, or you’re not (and you should want to be).

The writing and the staging in “Sakizuki” were beautiful (and occasionally horrible), and Hannibal continues to find new ways to approach and keep fresh its central conflict between Will and Hannibal.  For what is the show about if not therapy and friendship?  Oh, gruesome murder.  Right.  Hit the jump for why “I am the unreliable narrator of my own story.”

Rumor: Is a New MATRIX Trilogy in Development?

by     Posted 49 days ago

We live in a box office climate dominated by sequels, reboots, and remakes.  A known property is a much safer bet for a studio than an original film, and even when one original idea somehow makes it through the pipeline and proves to be a massive success (eg. Inception), it’s singled out as an anomaly rather than incentive to generate more original properties.  As such, the major studios are always on the hunt for ways to reboot or extend franchises, and if a new report is to be believed, one such property destined for a kickstart just might be a new trilogy of The Matrix films.  Hit the jump to read on.

hannibal-season-2

The second course of Hannibal is due to be served in just over a month, and NBC has released the chilling first trailer for season two.  Things certainly look to be getting intense when the relationship between Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) picks back up, and I’m incredibly eager to see how the season progresses given the events of last season’s finale.  Fair warning, if you haven’t watched the first season of Hannibal there are more than a few major spoilers in this trailer.

One of the biggest movies of the year, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, is now available to take home on Blu-ray.  If you only saw the picture once, or even twice in the theaters, there’s likely quite a bit you missed.  Luckily, the Blu-ray is packed full of behind-the-scenes featurettes and a multimedia commentary track that delves into every facet of the filmmaking process.  And for those of you who want to minor in Kryptonian studies, the special features also explore the newly created language and alphabet, technology, and all-around culture of the inhabitants of Krypton, plus an in-depth look at the alien world itself.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Antje Traue and Russell CroweMan of Steel is an enjoyable, yet absolutely detailed and expansive entry in the pantheon of Superman films.  The quality of the film alone is worth picking it up on Blu-ray, but the special features put the icing on the cake.

If all goes according to plan, three of the biggest films in recent memory will be in production at the same time.  Marvel’s superhero team-up sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron is slated to begin production next March, J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII is set to start filming in “early 2014,” and now word comes that director Zack Snyder’s untitled Man of Steel follow-up will start filming next February.  For those of you just now coming out of a coma, Ben Affleck has been tapped to play Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman in the Warner Bros. film, and the pic appears to be moving full-speed ahead towards its July 17, 2015 release date.

In addition to the filming dates of the Batman vs. Superman film, though, a new report also has confirmation that Affleck has indeed signed on to play Batman in multiple films.  Hit the jump for more, including the specific shooting dates of Batman vs. Superman.

First Teaser Trailer and Images for RIDE ALONG Starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube

Universal Pictures has released the first teaser trailer and some images for director Tim Story’s (Think Like a Man) upcoming comedy Ride Along.  The film stars Kevin Hart as a fast-talking aspiring police officer who must team up with his girlfriend’s brother, a hot-tempered cop (Ice Cube), to prove that he’s worthy of being her husband.  Hart and Cube are both proven comedic talents in their own right, but this trailer teases some excellent chemistry between the two in Ride Along, which looks like yet another promising new entry in the buddy cop genre alongside the likes of 21 Jump Street and The Heat.  Universal was so happy with the initial cut of Ride Along that they’re already working on a sequel to the pic, and judging by this teaser trailer it’s not hard to see why.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and images.  The film also stars John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen, and Laurence FishburneRide Along opens on January 17, 2014.

Final Trailer for MAN OF STEEL Features General Zod’s Ultimatum and a Mountain of Skulls

by     Posted 332 days ago

Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel.  In it, General Zod (Michael Shannon) sets up the film’s central conflict and gives Earth 24 hours before unleashing hell.  While previous trailers focused on the coming-of-age tale of a Kryptonian stranded on Earth and the love between a son and his father, this new cut is chock full of dread, evidenced by Superman drowning in a mountain of skulls.  When the villains threaten to kill one million humans for every life he saves, you can’t help but feel as if the odds are fully stacked against the world’s most powerful superhero.  This is certainly a fresh approach to the iconic hero and I hope that the film lives up to the trailers’ expectations.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and check out 20 new images here.  The film stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fisburne, Antje Traue and Russell CroweMan of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller Talks HANNIBAL, the Show’s Inception, Gauging the Level of Violence, the Overall Series Plan, Using the RED DRAGON Storyline, More

One of the best written and best acted dramas currently on network (or any) television is Hannibal, from show creator Bryan Fuller.  Based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, the series follows the unsettling relationship between psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and gifted criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, executive producer/writer Bryan Fuller talked about how the series came about, how he gauges the level of violence on the show, how he ended up with Dancy, Mikkelsen and Laurence Fishburne as his lead actors, how fascinating the character relationships are, that knowing the eventual destination of these characters is a huge gift, when Hannibal Lecter’s famous face mask could appear, how the Red Dragon story would come into play in Season 4, adding some female characters to the mix, how they decide what meals Dr. Lecter will prepare and serve, future romantic relationships for the serial killer, and what Gillian Anderson brings to the show.  He also talked about the possibility of a Kickstarter campaign for a Pushing Daisies movie.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

New MAN OF STEEL TV Spot Reveals Awesome New Footage

“Can you imagine how people on this planet would react if they knew there was someone like this out there?”

After watching the latest Man of Steel TV spot, all I can do is agree with one of the comments posted on the official Facebook page where they said, “shut up and take my money.”  While Warner Bros. has spent a substantial amount of money making Zack Snyder‘s Superman and they need to sell it to casual moviegoers, I’m at the point where I wish I could avoid the rest of their marketing plan and just see the finished product.  However, I understand why we’re about to get slammed with new images, posters, clips and TV spots.  The studio has to open this film and the only way to sell it is to show off the goods.  And this new TV spot does just that.  Watch it after the jump.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, and Russell Crowe.  Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.

New Trailer for Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for director Zack Snyder‘s Superman film Man of Steel.  There’s a lot to pull apart here in this three-minute trailer, starting with the heroic shots of Russell Crowe who appears to have prescience about his son’s abilities once he gets to Earth.  Then, we see Clark Kent passing through childhood, adolescence and adulthood, all while the expectations of his fathers are heaped upon his broad shoulders.  It’s not all existential as we get the first real hint of action sequences in the film, along with scenes of the menacing Michael Shannon and the tenacious Amy Adams.  And that theme?  There’s quite a bit going on here so be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!

7 New Images from MAN OF STEEL Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Michael Shannon [Updated]

Yesterday, Superman (Henry Cavill) took to the cover of Entertainment Weekly, and now the publication has released seven lo-res images from the superhero’s reboot, Man of Steel.  The article contains new plot details, but I’m trying to stay in the dark on this movie.  Everything I’ve seen so far has pushed me towards doubt (it just looks too dour for Superman), and I want to give the movie a fair shake, so I’ll let the die-hards check out the story.  However, I am willing to look at new images from the movie, and these look alright.  Director Zack Snyder has apparently left his more stylized approach behind to make this Superman movie look relatively normal.  Of course, we’ll have to see it in motion to really get a sense of what he’s going for.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  Hopefully, Warner Bros. will release better-quality versions in the near future.  The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, and Russell CroweMan of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th. [Update: EW has asked us to take the images down. Hopefully Warner Bros. released high-resolution versions soon.]

HANNIBAL Review; NBC Screens the First 2 Episodes at WonderCon

by     Posted 1 year, 17 days ago

hannibal-trailer-slice

Hannibal Lecter has undergone many a different iteration – from the coolly cerebral Brian Cox to the scarily menacing Anthony Hopkins to the more toothless anti-hero Hopkins played up in the sequels to whatever-the-hell Hannibal Rising was supposed to be.  It’s a character that has unfortunately become watered down with each new version presented. It’s remarkable now that a network television channel would base an entire series around a cannibal serial killer – but it speaks to just how defanged the character has become. However the new Hannibal as presented in Bryan Fuller’s upcoming show (based on the first two episodes previewed) presents dare-I-say-it the most unsettling characterization of Hannibal yet. Gone are any of the affectations of an Anthony Hopkins, instead replaced by pure detached malevolence. For the full review, hit the jump.

New Trailer for Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL Starring Henry Cavill

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill as Superman.  Rather than focusing on the action, the trailer tries to sell us on what would happen if Superman really existed on our planet and would people really accept someone with God like powers.  Of course towards the end of the trailer, we get a good look at some of the big action set pieces and Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as the villain Zod.  But the fact is, every big budget Hollywood movie has action.  Without a strong story and characters you care about, the action means nothing.  Thankfully, everything I’ve seen thus far on the Man of Steel tells me Snyder has crafted a great Superman film that will deliver everything the fans want and more.  It’s easily one of my most anticipated films of 2013.  Hit the jump to watch the new trailer and then be prepared to start counting down the days to June 14.

Man of Steel also stars Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe star.  Man of Steel opens on June 14, 2013.
