LEGIT Season 2 Review: FXX’s Irreverent and Under the Radar Comedy Returns

by     Posted 299 days ago

Last year, Australian comedian Jim Jefferies debuted his biting, but occasionally tender comedy, Legit.  The show is extremely low key and laid back, which is Jefferies’ trademark L.A.-stoner kind of style.  But the series is also an interesting mix of some very base humor alongside more serious issues.  Ultimately, it’s that humor that ties everything together, and keeps things from getting too dark.  Hit the jump for what the new season looks like, and why you can jump in even if you missed Season One.

LEGIT Series Premiere Review; Jim Jefferies Co-Created and Stars in New FX Comedy

A few months ago FX gave the green light to another comedian-based series like its award-winning Louie, this time starring Australian comic Jim Jefferies in a series he calls Legit.  Apparently, it’s something Jefferies’ mother said he needed to attempt to be, since he’s in his mid-30s and is known best for heavy drinking, copious drug intake and sleeping with prostitutes.  As he says in the series pilot, which takes place in L.A., he wants to start doing things for others, to grow up, and to become legitimate.

Jefferies plays a lightly fictionalized version of himself in a world where he is roommates and best friends with a cyber law library salesman, the recently divorced Steve (Dan Bakkedahl), and Steve’s brother Billy (DJ Qualls) who has Muscular Dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair.  But as of the first three episodes Jefferies manages to strike the right balance of the irreverent and, surprisingly, the sweet.  Hit the jump for more on the series, and why it’s worth a watch.

FX Orders 13-Episode First Season of Comedian Jim Jeffries Series LEGIT

by     Posted 2 years, 198 days ago

Last fall we learned that hilarious Australian comedian Jim Jeffries was following in the footsteps of Wilfred (a remake of a comedy series from down under) by setting up a comedy pilot called Legit at FX. Now the network has finally placed an order for a 13-episode first season. The new series follows a comedian named Jim (no surprise there) and his misguided attempts to become legitimate in life. I feel like this kind of series is a rite of passage for any comedian on the rise. More details after the jump.
