Phil Lord & Christopher Miller Say LEGO BATMAN Spin-Off Will Acknowledge Every Era of Batman Filmmaking; Are Handling LEGO Movies Like AVENGERS

I’ll admit that I was a bit disappointed we were getting a LEGO Batman spinoff before getting The LEGO Movie 2, but leave it to Phil Lord & Christopher Miller to get me excited for it again.  The filmmaking duo are serving as producers on LEGO Batman, and to their credit, they created a fun spin on the character in The LEGO Movie.  Also, while “Everything Is Awesome” is the song that gets all the attention (only because it gets stuck in your head to the point where you want to die), “Untitled Self Portrait” is pretty damn funny.

My main qualm with a LEGO Batman movie was that we’ve already seen Batman so many times on screen, but it turns out that LEGO Batman will be using the Dark Knight’s past on-screen iterations to its advantage.  Hit the jump for more including how the upcoming LEGO movies, including Ninjago, will tie together Avengers-style.

It was only matter of time, but this is still mostly good news to me.  After the phenomenal success of The LEGO Movie (and a delay in production on The LEGO Movie 2) Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a spinoff in the form of a LEGO Batman movie.  Will Arnett, whose character was a highlight of the amazing first film, will return to voice the hilarious character.  Chris McKay, who acted as animation supervisor on the first film and was attached to direct the sequel, will how helm this picture.

LEGO Batman will be written by Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter scribe Seth Grahame-Smith and is targeting a 2017 release date.  Hit the jump for more on the LEGO Batman movie.

Christopher Nolan “Can’t Talk About” Possible Batman Cameo in MAN OF STEEL; But Hey, Watch This Lego Version of the DARK KNIGHT RISES Trailer

A rumor surfaced late last month that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in serious negotiations with Warner Bros. to take on the role of Batman starting with Justice League—maybe even earlier, with the hint of a Batman cameo in Man of Steel this summer.  Gordon-Levitt’s representation was quick to deny the rumor, and “no” will be the official word for the near future regardless of the truth behind the rumor.  Movieline decided to ask Christopher Nolan—caretaker of the Batman franchise and producer on Man of Steel—directly if Gordon-Levitt or any actor might appear as Batman in Man of Steel.  Nolan smiled and responded:

“I can’t talk about that.  You know that.”

Nolan didn’t flat out say no like Gordon-Levitt’s reps.  Make of that what you will.

In the meantime, if you’re in the mood for something more tangible from the greater Batman universe, watch a fan recreation of the Dark Knight Risestrailer in Lego after the jump.
