The first trailer for Robert Luketic’s thriller Paranoia is now available. It does a nice job at setting up the premise of the film but, as is the current vogue, gives an awful lot of the plot away. Liam Hemsworth stars as a blue-collar pawn caught in a game of espionage between two kings of industry, played by Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford. The plot thickens when the long arm of the law reaches out for him, forcing him to play by his own set of rules to survive the game. This one should be on your radar if only to watch Oldman and Ford battle it out and to see how Hemsworth handles the lead.
Also starring Lucas Till, Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway and Domenick Lombardozzi, Paranoia opens August 16th. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.
Here’s today’s latest casting news:
- Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will star in the action picture Aurora Rising, which follows a test pilot storyline based on a screenplay by Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart).
- Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) has joined the mobster biopic Gotti for director Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger).
- Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) joins Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here, funded partially from crowd-sourced money via Kickstarter.

More casting out of Cannes today. A lead has been set for the long-gestating sci-fi thriller The Raven, as Heat Vision reports that Gerard Butler is now in talks to star. Universal acquired the project in 2010 based off a short film directed by Ricardo de Montreuil. The story of the short focuses on a young man with powers who is being chased around downtown Los Angeles by robotic police drones. The feature film is described as a conspiracy thriller set in the future, and Gold Circle has come onboard to co-finance alongside Universal Pictures.
Liam Hemsworth was previously in talks for the lead role, but it appears that Butler will now be toplining the pic following his action turn in Olympus Has Fallen. De Montreuil is still onboard to direct, and with a star and financing coming together, The Raven might start production as early as this year. Lionsgate has released the first trailer for director Francis Lawrence‘s (Water for Elephants) sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The darkness and melancholy of the first film has only intensified, but this trailer only tells half the story. We’re shown the victors’ tour, and how President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is trying to tear down the hope-inspiring image of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) before killing her. Only at the end of the trailer, do we hear about the second part of the story, which is the “Quarter Quell”, a special Hunger Games where past winners will be forced to fight to the death. I assume they left this out because it’s the more effects-heavy part of the story, and that footage is moving through post-production.
The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, and Amanda Plummer. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens on November 22nd in IMAX and traditional theaters.
Feast your eyes on the latest images from the following films opening later this year:
- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Yesterday’s new image featured the Everdeen sisters, but today’s focuses on Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). Starring Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens November 22nd.
- 300: Rise of an Empire – We got our first look at the 300 sequel just a few days ago and today brings our first glimpse of Eva Green as the film’s antagonist, Artemisia. 300: Rise of an Empire opens August 2nd.
- R.I.P.D. – Today’s first look at the comic adaptation about two undead gunslingers features Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds and their weapons of choice. R.I.P.D. opens July 19th.

While the studio has yet to confirm the news, Deadline is reporting that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will star in the sci-fi thriller The Raven. The film is based on the award-winning 2010 short directed and co-written by Ricardo de Montreuil (Máncora, La Mujer de mi Hermano), who will also be at the helm of the Universal Pictures project. The feature-length film, only described as a sci-fi conspiracy thriller set in the future, will be produced by Stephen Levinson (Entourage) and Mark Wahlberg. A trailer for the short shows a futuristic world very reminiscent of The Fifth Element – without all the glam and lights of city – in which a man is wanted for his supernatural abilities.
This would be the perfect opportunity for Hemsworth to depart from his romance-movie roles and show off more of his action chops and stand-alone power. His latest project, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, recently wrapped production in March and is set to hit theaters November 22nd. He has a total of four films slated for release this year, including the thriller Paranoia co-starring Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford. Lionsgate has released a new teaser poster and some high-resolution images for the highly anticipated upcoming sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. We previously saw a motion poster for the Francis Lawrence-directed adaptation, and this still poster is not entirely dissimilar from that piece of marketing. The first images from the film were recently released, giving us a look at Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, and Liam Hemsworth, as well as new cast additions Sam Claflin and Philip Seymour Hoffman. With this barrage of material coming our way over the past couple weeks, I imagine a teaser trailer will be popping up soon.

Fans of the original action hero mash-up The Expendables are in for higher stakes, twice the explosions and more grizzled cast members in The Expendables 2, now available on Blu-ray. While the sequel managed to top the experience of the first film, the Blu-ray has plenty of extras to keep fans busy, including a commentary track by director Simon West (Con Air) that provides a lot of behind-the-scenes info. Want to know what weapons the Expendables used? Want to know how much bigger the sequel could have been? Want to see the real life Expendables the movie characters referenced? Well then hit the jump for my review of The Expendables 2 on Blu-ray.
The first images have been released from Robert Luketic‘s upcoming thriller Paranoia. The film stars Liam Hemsworth as Adam Cassidy, an entry-level employee at a corporation run by Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman). When Wyatt turns Cassidy into a corporate spy against rival Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford), Cassidy is drawn into a dangerous web of intrigued. I’m currently indifferent regarding Hemsworth since I haven’t really see what he can do as a leading man (he was barely in The Hunger Games), but I’m eager to see the face off between Oldman and Ford.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Lucas Till, Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, and Josh Holloway. Paranoia opens October 4, 2013.

If action movies of the 80s and 90s are my religion, then The Expendables 2 just gave me my last rites. Lionsgate is letting us premiere a new poster that features the entire kick-ass cast assembled along one of the most famous tables in artistic history. While scholars have deciphered Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” for centuries, the companion image from The Expendables 2 is more my style, complete with guns, skulls and plenty of booze.
Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan star in the sequel to Stallone’s bone-breaking 2010 original film. Directed by Simon West, The Expendables 2 opens August 17th. Hit the jump to see the exclusive poster.
Lionsgate has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Expendables 2. The new film has Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his gang of mercenaries out for revenge, and also having to deal with a baddie (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who wants some weapons-grade plutonium. This featurette isn’t going to change anyone’s anticipation for the flick one way or the other, but I do like the emphasis on practical effects and trying to offer a break from CGI-heavy action (although you will also notice green screens in this featurette).
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. The film also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Expendables 2 opens on August 17th.
