The first trailer for Robert Luketic’s thriller Paranoia is now available.  It does a nice job at setting up the premise of the film but, as is the current vogue, gives an awful lot of the plot away.  Liam Hemsworth stars as a blue-collar pawn caught in a game of espionage between two kings of industry, played by Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.  The plot thickens when the long arm of the law reaches out for him, forcing him to play by his own set of rules to survive the game.  This one should be on your radar if only to watch Oldman and Ford battle it out and to see how Hemsworth handles the lead.

Also starring Lucas Till, Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway and Domenick LombardozziParanoia opens August 16th.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

More casting out of Cannes today.  A lead has been set for the long-gestating sci-fi thriller The Raven, as Heat Vision reports that Gerard Butler is now in talks to star.  Universal acquired the project in 2010 based off a short film directed by Ricardo de Montreuil.  The story of the short focuses on a young man with powers who is being chased around downtown Los Angeles by robotic police drones.  The feature film is described as a conspiracy thriller set in the future, and Gold Circle has come onboard to co-finance alongside Universal Pictures.

Liam Hemsworth was previously in talks for the lead role, but it appears that Butler will now be toplining the pic following his action turn in Olympus Has Fallen.  De Montreuil is still onboard to direct, and with a star and financing coming together, The Raven might start production as early as this year.  Hit the jump for casting news and a director change concerning the thriller Autobahn.

First Trailer for THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for director Francis Lawrence‘s (Water for Elephants) sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  The darkness and melancholy of the first film has only intensified, but this trailer only tells half the story.  We’re shown the victors’ tour, and how President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is trying to tear down the hope-inspiring image of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) before killing her.  Only at the end of the trailer, do we hear about the second part of the story, which is the “Quarter Quell”, a special Hunger Games where past winners will be forced to fight to the death.  I assume they left this out because it’s the more effects-heavy part of the story, and that footage is moving through post-production.

The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam HemsworthSam ClaflinElizabeth BanksWoody HarrelsonDonald Sutherland, Philip Seymour HoffmanJena MaloneJeffrey Wright, and Amanda Plummer.  The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens on November 22nd in IMAX and traditional theaters.

Liam Hemsworth In Talks to Star in THE RAVEN

While the studio has yet to confirm the news, Deadline is reporting that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will star in the sci-fi thriller The Raven.  The film is based on the award-winning 2010 short directed and co-written by Ricardo de Montreuil (Máncora, La Mujer de mi Hermano), who will also be at the helm of the Universal Pictures project.  The feature-length film, only described as a sci-fi conspiracy thriller set in the future, will be produced by Stephen Levinson (Entourage) and Mark Wahlberg.  A trailer for the short shows a futuristic world very reminiscent of The Fifth Elementwithout all the glam and lights of city – in which a man is wanted for his supernatural abilities.

This would be the perfect opportunity for Hemsworth to depart from his romance-movie roles and show off more of his action chops and stand-alone power.  His latest project, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, recently wrapped production in March and is set to hit theaters November 22nd. He has a total of four films slated for release this year, including the thriller Paranoia co-starring Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.  For a look at the trailer for the The Raven short film, hit the jump.

Want to know what weapons the Expendables used? Want to know how much bigger the sequel could have been? Want to see the real life Expendables the movie characters referenced? The first images have been released from Robert Luketic‘s upcoming thriller Paranoia.  The film stars Liam Hemsworth as Adam Cassidy, an entry-level employee at a corporation run by Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman).  When Wyatt turns Cassidy into a corporate spy against rival Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford), Cassidy is drawn into a dangerous web of intrigued.  I’m currently indifferent regarding Hemsworth since I haven’t really see what he can do as a leading man (he was barely in The Hunger Games), but I’m eager to see the face off between Oldman and Ford.

Exclusive Poster for THE EXPENDABLES 2 Adds Muscle to “The Last Supper”

If action movies of the 80s and 90s are my religion, then The Expendables 2 just gave me my last rites.  Lionsgate is letting us premiere a new poster that features the entire kick-ass cast assembled along one of the most famous tables in artistic history.  While scholars have deciphered Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” for centuries, the companion image from The Expendables 2 is more my style, complete with guns, skulls and plenty of booze.

Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins and Yu Nan star in the sequel to Stallone’s bone-breaking 2010 original film.  Directed by Simon West, The Expendables 2 opens August 17th.  Hit the jump to see the exclusive poster.

New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for THE EXPENDABLES 2

Lionsgate has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for The Expendables 2.  The new film has Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and his gang of mercenaries out for revenge, and also having to deal with a baddie (Jean-Claude Van Damme) who wants some weapons-grade plutonium.  This featurette isn’t going to change anyone’s anticipation for the flick one way or the other, but I do like the emphasis on practical effects and trying to offer a break from CGI-heavy action (although you will also notice green screens in this featurette).

Hit the jump to check out the featurette.  The film also stars Jason Statham, Yu Nan, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold SchwarzeneggerThe Expendables 2 opens on August 17th.
