Kate Mulgrew and Lorraine Toussaint Talk ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK Season 2, How They Feel About Their Characters’ Arcs, and More

by     Posted 166 days ago

From Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, Orange is the New Black tells the heartbreaking and hilarious stories of the women at Litchfield Prison.  In Season 1, Piper Chapman’s (Taylor Schilling) wild past came back to haunt her, resulting in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary where she finds unexpected conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric group of inmates.  In Orange Is the New Black Season 2, shocking revelations and new arrivals shake up the lives and relationships of the prisoners, in ways they never could have imagined.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, co-stars Kate Mulgrew (“Galina ‘Red’ Reznikov”) and Lorraine Toussaint (“Yvonne ‘Vee’ Parker”) talked about how they realized the level of popularity of this show, getting to explore the past and present of the relationship between their characters, that it’s great to work wearing a uniform, sneaking bits of glamour in, the expectation level that they have to live up to know, and how they each felt about the way their Season 2 storylines wrapped up.  Check out what they had to say about Orange is the New Black season 2 after the jump, and be aware that there are major spoilers.

Netflix has released a new Orange Is the New Black season 2 trailer.  For those unfamiliar with the terrific series, it takes place inside a women’s prison, and although the “main character” is a socialite incarcerated for an old crime, the supporting cast is just as interesting (and in some cases, more so).  If you’ve seen season one, this trailer will get you even more pumped for what’s coming up.  Set aside some binge-watching time.  Additionally, there’s also a brief featurette where the cast tries to sum up their thoughts on the new season in only three words.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and featurette.  The show stars Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs, Laura Prepon, Kate Mugrew, Danielle Brooks, Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Laverne Cox, Michael Harney, Samira Wiley, Yael Stone, and Lorraine ToussaintOrange Is the New Black returns with all 13 episodes on June 6th.

Because of David Fincher and a top-notch cast, House of Cards received plenty of attention before it was even released, and it managed to mostly live up to the hype.  But Netflix had a sleeper hit last year with their original series Orange Is the New Black.  Perhaps it was because I was never a fan of creator Jenji Kohan’s previous series, Weeds, but I was surprised by the enthusiastic buzz OITNB received, and it became an unexpected binge watch for me.  Now I’m excited for season two, and the first images from the new season have gone online.  The new images highlight both the dramatic side with the aftermath of Piper’s violent confrontation as well as the comic aspects with the inmates dressed up for a mock job fair.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  All 13 episodes of Orange Is the New Black will be released on Netflix on June 6th.
