The first trailer for Now You See Me has been released.  The film follows an FBI squad on the heels of a team of bank-robbing magicians who share their profits with the audience.  Sounds like Ocean’s Eleven with a magical twist, right? Well, the trailer shows that that’s certainly the case, but the “magic” tricks rely heavily on spectacle and computerized effects, throwing practicality right out the window. So it appears to be more of an action adventure flick with magical elements than any kind of head-scratcher; still could be fun though!

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans), the film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.  Now You See Me opens on June 7, 2013.

While it’s not quite a sequel, a Zombieland reunion of sorts is in the works. Woody Harrelson is currently in negotiations to star in the magician heist pic Now You See Me alongside Jesse Eisenberg. Louis Leterrier is directing the flick which centers on an illusionist troupe that pulls off bank heists in the middle of their bewildering performances, then gives the loot to the audience. The cast includes Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fischer and Melanie Laurent. Variety reports that Harrelson will play “a mentalist and hypnotist known for his Jedi-style mind tricks.” An incident overseas forces him to flee to the U.S. where he joins the magician group known as the Four Horseman. As if the premise and existing cast weren’t enough to entice me, Harrelson’s addition guarantees my ticket sold. Hit the jump for the casting news of Diego Klattenhoff in Pacific Rim.

Summit’s magician heist flick is close to adding two more to its cast, as Mark Ruffalo and Amanda Seyfried are in negotiations to join the aptly-titled Now You See Me. Louis Letterier (Clash of the Titans) is onboard to direct and the story centers on a group of the world’s great illusionists who simultaneously pull off bank heists during their performances, sharing the money with their audiences before bailing to evade the team of FBI agents on their tail.

Jesse Eisenberg and Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) are already set to star, and Variety reports that Ruffalo is in talks to play the head FBI agent while Seyfried would play the master technician responsible for building all the contraptions the illusionists use. The two would be welcomed additions to the promising cast. The script was written by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt (Prince of Persia) and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing.

If you grew up in the 1980’s most of the films you may have loved are likely to be remade. Raiders of the Lost Ark is safe – as it were – but if a film has a cult following or was a modest hit… Boom, remake/sequel/something time. 2010’s Clash of the Titans is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name, and this time Louis Letterier directs Sam Worthington as Perseus, the son of Zeus (Liam Neeson) who is the last line of defense for the Athenians under threat from the gods, and especially the Kraken. But to beat the Kraken, Perseus has to defend himself against giant scorpions and behead Medusa. Sounds rousing, right? My review of Clash of the Titans on Blu-ray after the jump.

The would-be 3D Greek adventure Clash of the Titans made $487 million worldwide in its spring run, which is plenty to ensure a sequel that may shoot as early as January.  Before you pass judgement on a follow-up to the poorly received film (critically, that is), there are two things you should know:

• Clash 2 will shoot in 3D, rather than convert after the fact as the first film did
• Jonathan Liebesman may be placed in charge of the sequel, replacing Clash director Louis Letterier

That name “Liebesman” — with its oddly positioned second “e” — may be as unfamiliar to you as it was to me.  But I have a hunch that it won’t be for much longer.  Find out why after the jump.
