Though Woody Allen has head overseas for his more recent film ventures, the filmmaker and comedian loves New York City. However, it doesn’t seem like Louis C.K. is all that fond of his residence there, but this new promo for the third season of his FX comedy series Louie still takes a cue from Allen’s opening credits for Manhattan. Using a track that sounds a little bit like the classic stylings of George Gershwin and some beautiful shots of The Big Apple, it seems like another fitting tribute to the city right to the very end. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the new teaser after the jump along with the aforementioned credit sequence for your reference.  The third season of  Louie premieres on June 28th.

MANHATTAN Blu-ray Review

Last year, Woody Allen turned in one of the best films he’s ever made, Midnight in Paris.  That film sparked a (well-deserved) bit of resurgence in Woody Allen’s general popularity, which must have timed out nicely with 20th Century Fox’s decision to release some of Allen’s greatest hits on Blu-ray.  One of those films, Manhattan, has long been hailed (by a large portion of Allen’s fan-base) as one of the best romantic-comedies ever made, not to mention the all-time greatest “love-letter to New York” ever committed to film.  Though I’m an Allen fan, I’d never actually gotten around to Manhattan this version arrived.  So, did I side with Manhattan’s numerous fans?  Is it Allen’s “best” film?  Or do I still think that Annie Hall does “it” better?  Find out after the jump, folks.

The Best Movies Of All Time Map slice

Now here’s a subway we’d all like to take.  It seems a website called Vodkaster has created “The Best Movies Of All Time Map” much in the vein of those Lord of the Rings Flow Charts/Maps that circulated around the web a few months ago (we missed it).  It’s incredibly cool and detailed, even if the stops along the way don’t exactly make the most sense.

Starting with a series of “Universally Acclaimed Masterpieces” in the middle, such as Seven Samuari, Star Wars and Citizen Kane, it then branches off into sub genres such as the broad “Drama” and “Comedy,” to more specific ones like “Masterpiece about show business” and “Drama about tolerance.”

You may currently know him best as either Spock or Sylar, but soon another iconic name may be associated with Heroes and Star Trek star Zachary Quinto: Gershwin.  Deadline reports that after Steven Spielberg dropped out of the proposed remake of imaginary rabbit pic Harvey, he became interested in directing a biopic on George Gershwin, famous American composer and brother of Ira.  The Spielberg-founded DreamWorks acquired the project last fall, and it is looking to start shooting as early as April.

For more on Spielberg’s next move plus details on Quinto’s involvement, hit the break.
