Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for director Darren Aronofsky’s Biblical epic Noah, and it looks exactly like a Darren Aronofsky version of the Great Flood story. The visuals here are quite stunning, and the production’s decision to shoot in Iceland looks to be more than warranted. How refreshing it is to see a film with real backgrounds and landscapes as opposed to CG-created everything (ahem Maleficent). What I’m most excited about, though, is the human element, as Aronofsky has a knack for telling wonderfully intimate stories that are extremely character-focused. Combined with the expansive visuals of the Great Flood, this has the makings to be quite the event film. Whatever quarrels are going on about the current edit of the feature, I sincerely hope Aronofsky’s signature style isn’t lost in the final cut.

How does one dress for a mass exodus onto a giant wooden ark that will be surrounded by rising flood waters for an indefinite period of time? Why, with homemade t-shirts, head wraps and fashionable boots! At least that’s what the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah was wearing in these recent set photos. The images show off Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson in costume on their way to/from set, along with titular star Russell Crowe short-sleeved and bearded. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out an image of the finished ark here; drafty!

The first theatrical trailer for director Fisher Stevens’ Stand Up Guys has gone online. Starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin as retired gangsters who reunite for one last epic night, the plot of Stand Up Guys also features a tense undercurrent that comes across well in the trailer. Their former mob boss, played by Mark Margolis, pits them against each other when he orders one last hit. The trailer, while revealing perhaps a bit too much of the plot, hits all the right notes and makes this one to keep an eye on as 2013 draws nearer.
Stand Up Guys, also starring Julianna Margulies, opens January 11th, 2013. Hit the jump to watch the trailer.
