A new red band trailer for the spoof A Haunted House has been released online. Co-writer and star Marlon Wayans looks to be trying to recapture some of that Scary Movie magic with this pic, as it basically combines elements from Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside with the same type of parody comedy that the Wayans Brothers used to great success with the Scary Movie franchise. The results here are fairly stale, as Scary Movie itself spawned numerous terrible copycat films that drove the parody genre into the ground. There are one or two mildly funny moments in this sex joke-heavy red band trailer, but nothing to suggest that A Haunted House is a must-see comedy.

Remember when Scary Movie came out, made a bunch of money, and invaded the zeitgeist? Well Marlon Wayans hopes you do, as the first trailer for his new Paranormal Activity spoof A Haunted House has landed online. It’s looks exactly like you’d expect it to, but there are one or two chuckles sprinkled in between the fart jokes and screaming. The film tackles the “found footage” craze, most prominently spoofing Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside. I’m interested to see if these kinds of comedies even appeal to moviegoers anymore. Will audiences show up or have the endless Scary Movie sequels killed the horror spoof genre that the Wayans brothers practically invented?

With the release of Chronicle last week, the found footage genre finally crossed the threshold of public consciousness required for parody. Marlon Wayans, the writer and star of such spoofs as Scary Movie and Dance Flick, is up to the task. Not only will Wayans star opposite Essence Atkins in Smart Ass, described as “a spoof of a various found-footage pics like Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside Me.” According to Variety, this is also Wayans’ directorial debut with co-director Mike Tiddes. Filming on the independent production is now underway in Los Angeles.
Though Wayans has mostly been a critical punching bag in the last decade, there are a lot of pieces here that appeal to me. With all the tics and affectations of the genre, found footage is fertile ground for this satirical treatment. And 10-year-old me watched a lot of Wayans on his The WB sitcom The Wayans Bros., and even more of Atkins on Smart Guy. (She played the sister of a pugnacious little shorty with 1000 IQ.) I will try to wait until at least the trailer to write this one off.

After teaming up with his brother Shawn Wayans as an undercover cop duo in White Chicks, comedian Marlon Wayans is developing a new comedy series at ABC about two sibling police officers. Deadline says the potential new series is a hybrid single/multi-camera series will follow a down on his luck police officer who moves in with his brother and his family. Marlon will play the married brother, and while it’s not clear who will play the other sibling, you would think Shawn would be an obvious choice, especially since he’s also producing the series along with Keenan Ivory Wayans. The brothers have been working together along with their brother Damon since the days of In Living Color on Fox, and have teamed for the Scary Movie franchise and a couple terrible comedies. Maybe heading back to TV can get them back on their game.
Details on Donal Logue joining Gateway, and Harry Potter cast member Tom Felton joining Labyrinth can be found after the jump.

Marlon Wayans (G.I. Joe) has been cast as a dollar bill in the upcoming Harmony Korine picture Twinkle, Twinkle. Let me repeat: according to TheWrap, Marlon Wayans has been cast as a dollar bill. All right — technically he’ll be playing a former hitman who dresses up in a dollar bill costume… but I’m not sure how that makes the news any less bizarre.
To be frank, judging from Harmony Korine’s oeuvre, this news shouldn’t be all that surprising. I mean this is the man whose previous film Trash Humpers focused on a bunch of sociopathic elderly people who got their kicks vandalizing homes and murdering folks. Such a synopsis would seem to be immediately appealing; but I’m sad to report the film itself is just a down right chore to sit through (as is much of Korine’s filmography). Marlon Wayans as a dollar bill will only be the second strangest role the actor/comedian has played, having previously starred as a little person impersonating a baby in the aptly titled modern masterpiece Little Man. (I’m only half joking about the masterpiece part.)

It may take fans of the late, great Richard Pryor a while to get used to the idea of him being played by the star of White Chicks and Little Man, but Marlon Wayans himself is clearly excited about jumping into the role when director Bill Condon starts filming Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? this fall.
“This is like an invitation to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for me, and I’ve never been more excited in my life than when I got the role,” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “I want to be in dramas, I want to produce, I want to write and I want to prove I can handle a role such as this one.”
Smirk about all that if you want to, but along with the movies that have made he and his brethren very rich guys, Wayans has at least two performances in his career that show why I think he can handle this and nail it. First, go back and watch the Coen brothers’ remake of Ladykillers, in which he was easily the funniest guy (“you brought your bitch to the Waffle Hut?”) And, even better, think all the way back to Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream, in which he held his own with the likes of Jennifer Connelly and Ellyn Burstyn and showed some genuine dramatic chops.
Hit the jump to hear more of what Wayans and a producer of Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? had to say about the upcoming flick.

You’ve probably been waiting with baited breath for more news on the Marmaduke movie ever since Matt reported on it back in November, and the teaser trailer is finally here. The movie, based on the comic strip about a lovable Great Dane, stars Owen Wilson as the voice of the titular dog. Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans, and Marlon Wayans will supply additional voices, while Judy Greer, Lee Pace, and William H. Macy will play the roles of Marmaduke’s family.
The trailer is about what you’d expect. Although, I did chuckle at the nonsensical pop culture reference that opens the trailer. And I think I could get behind a talking dog movie where the talking dog breaks the fourth wall, if that style continues beyond the trailer. With a stellar cast, if there’s any chance this movie could be good, I’m all for it. Form your own thoughts after the jump. Marmaduke is slated to hit theaters on June 4, 2010.

Earlier this year we got news that Eddie Murphy was going to play legendary comedian Richard Pryor in a biopic directed by Bill Condon (“Chicago”, “Dreamgirls”). Almost everyone was left wondering if Murphy could really pull it off. Well, we no longer have to wonder about Murphy as he has been replaced by Marlon Wayans. If this news wasn’t enough of a surprise, the film will no longer be produced by Fox Searchlight. Instead, it will be produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison productions. You can get all of the interesting details when you hit the jump.

Last night I covered a special “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” screening at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. While there I was able to interview tons of people on the red carpet and rather than divide up these three interviews into separate articles, I’m posting all them here, in one place. So after the jump you can see Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) talk about making “G.I. Joe”, screenwriter Stuart Beattie talk about his directorial debut “Tomorrow, When the World Began”, and Marlon Wayans (Ripcord) talk more about Japanese bathrooms and what character he might want to join the “Joe” team in the sequel. Take a look:

I think “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” is going to surprise a lot of you this weekend. That’s because the movie is just flat out fun. If you go in wanting to have a good time and can channel your inner kid, you’re going to have a blast watching director Stephen Sommer’s newest movie. If I was ten year’s old, I think “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” would be the greatest movie ever. As it stands, I’m far older than that, but I still think the movie is fantastic.
Anyway, a few days ago I attended the New York City press junket for “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. While there I got to speak with director Stephen Sommers, producer Lorenzo de Bonaventura, and a few of the cast. The interview after the jump is with Channing Tatum and Marlon Wayans. During our interview we talked about the lack of Public Service Announcements (PSA’s), the online buzz, the worldwide tour they’ve been on, and the toilet’s of Japan. I’m not kidding about that last part. Take a look:

With “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” set for release in a little over a week, Paramount has release four clips from the Stephen Sommers movie and they’re after the jump. As I said when I wrote my mini-review, all you need to know is “G.I. Joe” is the cartoon come to life. It’s a pure candy coated popcorn film and if you’re going to the movie theater to have a good time, you’re going to have a lot of fun watching “G.I. Joe”. Just remember, the movie is aimed at kids and it’s designed to sell toys. Watch the clips. You’ll see what I mean.

Paramount has released nine new images from “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and they’re after the jump. While most of the online community has given up hope that “G.I. Joe” could be enjoyable, I’ll admit to wanting to check it out for myself. Also, the film is aimed at kids, so why thirty year old men need to have their panties in a bunch about this film is beyond me. I watched the cartoon when I was a kid. But I don’t need to have “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” shake heaven and Earth for me to be happy. I’m just looking for a fun popcorn film. If I get that, great. Finally, I went to the set of “Joe” last year and left feeling that it could be a lot of fun. We’ll see in a few weeks. Check out the images after the jump.

Along with our exclusive poster, MovieWeb, LatinoReview, Cinematical, and IGN all received exclusive character posters for “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. All these posters are nice, but ours is the best because it has breasts. Even the character poster for Snake Eyes (which I have not included because IGN has yet to post it and continues to make the rest of us wonder why they even get exclusives in the first place) isn’t better than Baroness (Sienna Miller) because Snake Eyes can’t ninja himself up some knockers.
Check out smaller versions of the character posters below for Duke (Channing Tatum), Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee), and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) after the jump and click on them for bigness. “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” hits theatres on August 7th.
UPDATE: IGN posted their poster for Snake Eyes (Ray Park). Check it out with the others after the jump.
