Now that the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier have rippled down to the ABC TV series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., things are moving forward at a breakneck pace.  Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is trying to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. while Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) keeps an eye on his sanity, and Skye (Chloe Bennet) is trying to come to terms with the fact that she opened her heart to Agent Ward (Brett Dalton) and he turned out to be HYDRA, while Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) are trying to get back to being Fitz and Simmons.

As part of PaleyFest NY, which is considered the ultimate TV fan festival, co-stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen and Chloe Bennet, along with executive producer Jeph Loeb, talked about how this show evolved, their audition experiences, the incredible journey this show has taken the characters on, the extent of the collaboration to coordinate this show with The Winter Soldier, the actors’ reaction to finding out how everything would tie in, whether Ward might ever get back out into the field, which Marvel characters they’d like to see on the show, the process for deciding which characters they can actually bring on, whether Clark Gregg might ever direct an episode, shooting the May vs. May fight, the chances of Clark Gregg going up against James Spader in Avengers:  Age of Ultron, and whether there might be any connection between the show and the next movie.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

agents-of-shield-recap

Welcome back, true believers!  When last we left our band of wayward agents, the hidden artifact known as the Obelisk had been taken by Avengers-villain, Crusher Creel (aka the Absorbing Man).  The team lost one of their newest members apparently as Lucy Lawless’ Hartlay bit the bullet and was killed in the final minutes of the season premiere, though this is the Marvel universe and resurrections are fair game for any character.  Tonight, we’ll see the return of the mysterious “woman in the flower dress”, Raina, apparently seeking to help the team rather than inhibit them.  Will the team join their old foe in attempting to reclaim the Obelisk?  Will Fitz go even crazier in this episode?  Why oh why didn’t I make a joke about the Absorbing Man not being played by Nick Nolte during the last recap?  All this and more in the recap for the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Heavy is the Head”….

Throughout the first season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (available on Blu-ray/DVD on September 9th), audiences were able to see the evolution of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards), an ordinary man who has been given superhuman strength and abilities, into the comic book character Deathlok.  He became something scary and dangerous, but above it all, he’s still a man who only wants to do what’s best for his son.

During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor J. August Richards talked about how being a part of the Marvel universe is a childhood fantasy come to life, that he has over a thousand comic books in his own collection, reuniting with both Joss Whedon and Jeff Bell, what it’s like to be involved with the show’s fandom through social media, how he only originally signed on for the pilot episode with no idea of what was to come, his reaction when he found out that he’d be evolving into Deathlok, that he likes totally relinquishing control and putting yourself in the hands of the writers, where he’d like to see the character go next, who he’d like to see Deathlok go up against and who he’d like to see him team up with, and a stunt mishap that he thinks ended up on the gag reel.  Check out what he had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Admittedly, I gave up on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. four episodes in so have little to no clue about what went down towards the end of season 1, but apparently something popped up to make viewers think that a new element of the Marvel Universe could be joining the show.  In fact, someone shot a video of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 set and caught a glimpse of a certain something that could prove the rumors true.

Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.  Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is making its way back to ABC for season two on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9pm and stars Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth HenstridgeWarning! Season one of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is all wrapped up for the year, but the super spies have one last treat for their faithful viewers.  While the show definitely had some growing pains (chronicled by our own Evan Valentine’s weekly recaps) and plenty of unintentionally hilarious moments, this new blooper reel is an absolute delight.  Watch Clark Gregg get attacked by a rogue fly, Ming-Na Wen get tongue-tied, and Chloe Bennet welcome you to Chloe’s Corner.  Co-stars Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge get their own share of the giggles in this behind-the-scenes look.

Season one of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will debut on Blu-ray/DVD on September 9th.  Hit the jump to watch the season one blooper reel.

marvels-agents-of-shield-comic-con-interview

Shortly after the Marvel TV panel at Comic-Con on Friday, I was able to participate in a roundtable interview with cast members Clark Gregg, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain de Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeph Loeb, and Jeffrey Bell. If you watch Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you know there was a huge revelation about Brett Dalton’s character, Grant Ward. Many had wondered if Dalton would be returning for season two, but with his appearance at Comic-Con and having participated in interviews for the show, it’s safe to assume that he will be back. Also, with the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, S.H.I.E.L.D. has all but been completely obliterated.

During the roundtable interviews, the actors and producers talked about how The Winter Soldier will affect the show going forward, when the rest of the Avengers will discover that Agent Coulson is still alive, the show’s relationship to the new ABC series Marvel’s Agent Carter, and so much more.  Hit the jump to read the full interviews.

TV ratings are in for Tuesday, May 13th, including a number of season finales.  Briefly:

  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. closed out its uneven freshman season with a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demo and scored 5.23 million viewers, which matches last week’s performance.  ABC has already renewed the show for a second season, so Agent Coulson and Co. will return this fall.  Read Evan’s recap of the episode here.
  • On the flipside, Fox’s Glee closed out its fifth season with a series low 0.6 rating and a mere 1.92 million viewers, dropping 25% from last week’s numbers.  Though Fox has already ordered a sixth and final season, don’t be surprised if the episode count for next year is lower than normal.

And so we close the first chapter on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  Hot on the heels of it’s season two renewal announcement, tonight’s installment promises an explosive conclusion joined by none other than the man himself, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.  Through the highs and lows, we’ve followed the agents as they fought the forces of Centipede, possessed sticks, Asgardian temptresses, and viewership approval.  Though treacherous roads to be sure, Coulson and the gang have found their footing and are moving full force at the remnants of Hydra and cyborg Bill Paxton (you know it’s a great gig when you get to type that sentence out).  In our final installment, will everyone make it out alive?  What will become of the agents now that S.H.I.E.L.D no longer exists?  Will more be revealed with regards to Skye’s “monstrous” lineage?  All this and more will be revealed in tonight’s installment, “Beginning of the End.”  Hit the jump for our Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recap.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Renewed for Season 2 by ABC; Marvel’s AGENT CARTER Ordered to Series

agents-of-shield-season-2-renewed-agent-carter

ABC just announced a few renewals and orders for new series, but in addition to those shows, the network will also have two Marvel dramas on the air during the 2014-15 TV season.  ABC has renewed Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season and has given a series order for the Captain America spinoff Agent Carter.  Though Marvel’s first foray into television was highly anticipated, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was met with a rather tepid critical response and the ratings have dwindled since its premiere.  Regardless, the numbers never dropped to critical levels and the show is lucrative as a brand property, so it was highly likely that ABC was going to order a second season.
