Yesterday, we showed you the new costume and first set photos from Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man. Today, set photos have leaked of Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. It’s strange to see how they’ve made her up (assume she’s in makeup) since the Spider-Man reboot claims to be a more realistic retelling of the character, but Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are the kind of absolutely gorgeous high school “outcasts” that don’t really exist. Meanwhile, you have Woodley looking like an actual teenager (which is part of her charm in The Spectacular Now), and I have a feeling that Dane DeHaan (who plays Harry Osborne) will have the same look. I’m curious to see how this is all going, or if perhaps these set photos don’t convey the kind of lighting and camera work that will turn Woodley from a good-looking person into a total knock-out.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos. The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field, Felicity Jones, and Martin Sheen. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014. [Update: Some new set photos have surfaced featuring Andrew Garfield and Woodley sharing a scene together, and they're now included after the jump.]

Mary Jane Watson WILL NOT Appear in the Upcoming SPIDER-MAN Reboot

It’s a bit of surprise, but we now have news that the character of Mary Jane Watson will not be appearing in director Marc Webb’s (500 Days of Summer) upcoming 3D Spider-Man reboot.  We’ve been hearing that the new film would feature two love interests for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) for awhile now, but that Mary Jane Watson would not be the lead female role, and that she would be a minimal role in the film if she were to appear at all. We’ve since learned that Emma Stone (Easy A) has been cast as Gwen Stacy and would be both the lead female role and main love interest in the film.

I’ve since assumed that Watson would be appearing in the film in a minimal role, which would be enhanced in the inevitable sequel, but The Wrap is now reporting that Watson will not be appearing in the film at all since “the character is not currently featured in James Vanderbilt’s (Zodiac) screenplay, and apparently never was.” Spider-Man without Mary Jane Watson to me is like Superman without Lois Lane, so I’m curious to see how fans of the comic book character will react to this news.  You can hit the jump to leave your thoughts in the comments below and to get a recap of what we know about the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Emma Stone Cast as Gwen Stacy in SPIDER-MAN!

A few days ago we reported Emma Stone had been cast in director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man and she’d be playing Mary Jane Watson.  We got most of it right. While Stone is definitely in Spider-Man, Sony has just announced she’ll actually be playing Gwen Stacy!  Needless to say, she’ll either be dyeing her hair or wearing a wig as Gwen Stacy is blond.  Of course, it’s possible Webb is going to throw fandom a curve ball by making Gwen Stacy a red head and then Mary Jane Watson a blond.  But I doubt it.  No reason to anger the fanboys with something as trivial as hair color.

Either way, Emma Stone is a fantastic actress and her casting in Spider-Man shows me the studio is aiming to reboot this the right way.  With filming set to begin in December, I’m sure we’ll be getting a lot more casting announcements soon.

It should be noted the press release that Sony sent out says “Emma Stone to Play Female Lead.”  That means if Mary Jane Watson is in the movie at all, it must be a small part.  Hit the jump for the full press release:
