Created by Jeff Eastin, the USA Network series White Collar is coming to an end, after six seasons.  In the explosive series finale, “Au Revoir,” FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) gets involved in a dangerous con against the Pink Panthers, in order to help Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) pull off a risky heist.  Meanwhile, Neal has designed a new plan that will serve the interest of the Pink Panthers and himself, with his goal being to permanently rid himself of an ankle bracelet and free himself of his ties to the FBI.  And whether it’s all resolved in the end or not, it’s been a great ride, watching two very different men form a very unlikely friendship.

During this recent interview with press to talk about the series finale and what being a part of the show has meant to them, co-stars Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay talked about watching until the final second of the episode, whether they’re personally satisfied with the show’s ending, what it was like to do the last scenes of the last episode, what they took home from the set, why their characters had such a successful partnership, their favorite moments, what they’ll miss most, what they’ve learned from each other, whether there might ever be a movie, and what they’re looking to do, in the future.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW Recap: “Pink Cupcakes”

American Horror Story is moving along at a noticeably slower pace this season, but it’s actually working to the show’s benefit for the most part.  There are still some heavy-handed plays to one-up previous episodes and seasons via outrageously shocking material and every so often, there are a few narrative details that don’t add up, but for the most part, the key characters are progressing well and the writers are bolstering the effect of current episodes by acknowledging and respecting what’s gone down in previous ones.  Hit the jump for more in my American Horror Story: Freak Show recap.

Ryan Murphy Says All Seasons of AMERICAN HORROR STORY Are Connected; Season 5 Clue Featured in Episode 4 of FREAK SHOW

Prior to American Horror Story: Freak Show, I was under the impression that all seasons of American Horror Story were standalone entities, but then news surfaced that Naomi Grossman was set to portray her Asylum character, Pepper, in Freak Show as well.  But even then, it just could have been fun stunt casting.  It certainly made for a good story.  However, Lily Rabe’s casting last week was a game changer.  Rabe is also going to portray her Asylum character, Sister Mary Eunice, in Freak Show for a storyline chronicling how Pepper winds up making the move from Elsa’ Cabinet of Curiosities to Briarcliff.

And the season crossovers don’t stop there.  According to Ryan Murphy, Murder House, Asylum, Coven and Freak Show are all connected.  Hit the jump for more.

First Look at DreamWorks Animation’s B.O.O.: BUREAU OF OTHERWORLDLY OPERATIONS

I’ve got a soft spot for cute, pet-like animated characters so when news first broke that DreamWorks Animation was making a movie about a ghost who needs to attend ghost school in order to become a better scarer, I was hooked.  However, that was a few years ago and since, the narrative and title of Boo U has changed.

Now we’ve got B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations on the way and it tells the story of a pair of ghosts who go to work for the B.O.O., an organization dedicated to protecting humans from evil spirits.  The scenario still sounds fun and also has Seth RogenMelissa McCarthyRashida JonesOctavia Spencer, Matt Bomer and Bill Murray leading the voice cast, but the very first look at the characters just surfaced and it’s not really what I was hoping for.  Hit the jump to check it out.  B.O.O. is scheduled for a June 5, 2015 release.

SPACE STATION 76 Trailer Shows Patrick Wilson, Matt Bomer and Liv Tyler Living in Deep Space 70s-Style

We’ve got an abundance of films set in a futuristic version of space, but what if space travel and deep space living more closely resembled the 70s instead?  That’s exactly what Jack Plotnick’s feature directorial debut is all about.  Rather than run with a single primary narrative, Space Station 76 puts the focus on a number of main characters going about their daily lives on a refueling station called the Omega 76.

There’s the bitter captain, Glenn (Patrick Wilson), his new assistant captain, Jessica (Liv Tyler), the space station mechanic, Ted (Matt Bomer), and his wife Misty (Marisa Coughlan) who struts around without a care in the world, often neglecting her own daughter.  You can catch them all in action in the very first Space Station 76 trailer after the jump.

Full Trailer for Ryan Murphy’s THE NORMAL HEART Starring Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Kitsch, and Julia Roberts

HBO has released a new, full-length The Normal Heart trailer for director Ryan Murphy’s (Glee, American Horror Story) adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Larry Kramer stage play.  The film follows the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s, and it looks at the nation’s sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fought to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial.  Though Murphy is a bit hit and miss (his last two films were Running with Scissors and Eat, Pray, Love), I’m encouraged by The Normal Heart’s stellar ensemble cast and the fact that Kramer penned the screenplay.  Mark Ruffalo and Taylor Kitsch, in particular, look to be standouts, and the tone feels reminiscent of the heartwrenching documentary How to Survive a Plague, in which Kramer plays an integral role.

Hit the jump to watch the full-length The Normal Heart trailer.  The film also stars Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, Alfred Molina, Jonathan Groff, Denis O’Hare, Corey Stoll, and Julia RobertsThe Normal Heart premieres on HBO Sunday, May 25th at 9pm ET/PT.

SXSW 2014: SPACE STATION 76 Review

Jack Plotnick’s feature directorial debut rocks a creative concept with some highly appealing production design, but the film is entirely devoid of a compelling through line, rendering Space Station 76 more of a short-lived novelty rather than a thoughtfully layered, story-driven experience.  Hit the jump for my full review of Space Station 76 from the SXSW Film Festival.

Earlier tonight, HBO released the first teaser trailer for The Normal Heart.  Directed by Ryan Murphy (Glee), the film follows the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s, and looks at the nation’s sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fought to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial.  While I’ll certainly tune in to see it, I’m not a big fan of Murphy’s work, and I’m worried this is going to come off as schmaltzy and melodramatic.  I hope I’m wrong, because it’s certainly an important story and one worth telling.

Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer.  The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, and Julia RobertsThe Normal Heart airs Sunday, May 25th at 9pm on HBO.

Based on the Geoff Johns/Gary Frank 2008 DC Comics release “Superman: Brainiac,” Superman: Unbound is the latest DC universe animated original movie from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The story is about a destructive force that is devastating planets across the galaxy, with Earth next in its sights, and even Superman may not be capable of halting the destruction alone.  The film features the voices of Matt Bomer (White Collar) as Superman, John Noble (Fringe) as Brainiac, Molly Quinn (Castle) as Supergirl, and Stana Katic (Castle) as Lois Lane.  For more on the movie, here’s Dave’s review and our WonderCon panel recap.

While at WonderCon, actor Matt Bomer, who is quite obviously a longtime Superman fan, spoke at a roundtable interview about the first time he imagined himself as a superhero, what he wanted to bring to the iconic role, who he thinks this film will appeal to, why Superman is still relevant after all these years, and how he’d also love the chance to play Nightwing.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

SUPERMAN: UNBOUND Review

Anaheim’s WonderCon 2013 played host to the world premiere of Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment’s Superman: Unbound.  Directed by DC veteran and new supervisor of DC’s animation James Tucker (Legion of Super Heroes), Superman: Unbound was adapted by Bob Goodman (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Parts 1 and 2) from Geoff Johns’ five-part comic book arc, Superman: Brainiac.  The story centers on Superman (voiced by Matt Bomer) and his battle against Brainiac (voiced by John Noble) who is attempting to learn what he can from Earth and its intelligent life before destroying the planet.  Also highlighted in Superman: Unbound are the relationships of Superman/Clark Kent with his secret girlfriend Lois Lane (voiced by Stana Katic) and his recently-arrived cousin Kara/Supergirl (voiced by Molly C. Quinn).

Though Tucker’s version makes some changes from the original comic arc that may displease some fans, Superman: Unbound was pure Saturday morning animated fun.  The animation is bold, bright and unafraid to splash a little blood here and there.  Superman: Unbound, which will be available on Blu-ray/DVD/VOD on May 7th, is rated PG-13 for violence, action and a rude gesture (which elicited a great crowd reaction).  DC Entertainment continues its great track record of animated fare with this newest installment.  Hit the jump for my review and be sure to check out the panel recap from WonderCon.
