New 60-second TV spots have been released for Django Unchained.  For those unfamiliar with the film, Jamie Foxx stars as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  These TV spots are in line with all the other ads we’ve seen, and it looks like The Weinstein Company is just about done showing off new footage, which is fine by me.  While other potential Oscar-contenders like Zero Dark Thirty and Les Miserables have already begun to build buzz, Django still remains under wraps, although with yearly awards from critics’ groups closing in, the silence will break soon enough.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spots.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom SaviniDjango Unchained opens on December 25th.

International Trailer for DJANGO UNCHAINED Is the Best One Yet

As we close in on Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained (only two months away!), another trailer has popped up online.  While the latest domestic trailer was pretty good, this new international trailer is absolutely terrific.  It provides our best look at the film yet with plenty of new footage (some could argue a little too much), plot details, and character motivations.  And all of it looks amazing.  Also, it’s pretty easy to win me over when your spaghetti western-style movie leads off its trailer with the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, and Samuel L. JacksonDjango Unchained opens December 25th.

New Trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

A new trailer for writer/director Quentin Tarantino’s new film Django Unchained has been released.  This new Django trailer is way more fun than a movie about slavery has any right to be.  We get to see a lot more of Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) and her treatment at the hands of Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).  We get some sage advice from Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Stephen, and a bit of historical postulating from DiCaprio himself. Why, we even get our first look at funnyman Jonah Hill in a somewhat surprising role!

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Adult supervision is required. The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom SaviniDjango Unchained opens on December 25th.

A new international trailer for Django Unchained has gone online.  Quentin Tarantino‘s latest film stars Jamie Foxx as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  The new international trailer has a few bits of new footage including Candie drumming his fingers on a skull.  It’s yet another hint at how much scenery DiCaprio is willing the chew, and I can’t wait to see him devour his scenes.

First Trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained has landed online.  The film stars Jamie Foxx as the titular Django, an escaped slave who goes to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) by teaming up with bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz).  This trailer is quintessential Tarantino with killer music choices, flowery dialogue, and atmosphere galore.  Waltz is actually front and center here, and it’s great to see him spouting Tarnatino’s words with such cheerfulness once again.  Foxx looks to be in fine form as our protagonist, but I’m eager to see more of DiCaprio’s performance as the dastardly plantation owner.  Nevertheless, I love everything about this first footage and if the trailer doesn’t bring a big smile to your face, then you’re probably dead inside.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Walton Goggins, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom SaviniDjango Unchained opens on December 25th.

Though the new “trailer for a trailer” trend is, in general, annoying as all get-up, exceptions do exist.  Case in point is our first look at Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained by way of this trailer tease from the folks at Entertainment Tonight.  Granted it’s not much, but we do get a nice tease of Leonardo DiCaprio as the dastardly plantation owner and a few shots of Jamie Foxx as the titular Django.  New Quentin Tarantino films are celebrated as events, and Django Unchained is no exception.  Though we’ll have a much better idea of what to expect when the full trailer drops tomorrow, I’ve already got a smile on my face from the signature zooms on display in this clip.

Kurt Russell and Sacha Baron Cohen Exit Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED [Updated]

Director Quentin Tarantino must have written a doozie of a role for a certain Django Unchained character; not only has Kevin Costner left the picture, but now Kurt Russell has exited as well.  Both veterans were slated to play the role of Ace Woody, a villainous character who trains slaves to fight each other for public amusement.  Granted, the role isn’t feel-good like Man of Steel’s Pa Kent or Miracle’s Herb Brooks, but it’s a Tarantino flick; no one gets out unscathed.  Costner had previously cited scheduling difficulties for his departure from Django Unchained, but Russell’s camp has yet to provide a reason.  Slightly concerning is the fact that with a December 25th release date, there hasn’t been a replacement announced just yet.

Sacha Baron Cohen also let slip that his planned cameo won’t happen due to a scheduling conflict.  The rest of the Django Unchained cast, however, needs little support, boasting Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom Savini. Hit the jump for more. [Update: We've added new information regarding Russell's role]

Samuel L. Jackson Address the Issue of Slavery in Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED

While Samuel L. Jackson’s role in the upcoming superhero epic The Avengers certainly won’t hurt his status as “highest grossing actor ever,” that doesn’t mean the veteran will neglect his acting roots.  Jackson once again teams with  director Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained later this year, a movie which draws inspiration from some of the ugliest events in American history.  While we’ve brought you some good looking images of Christoph Waltz in character and of the first teaser poster, the plot itself is a bit on the ugly side. It revolves around Django, a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) and Dr. King Schultz, a German-born bounty hunter (Waltz) who are out to rescue Django’s wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).  Jackson plays a “house slave” of plantation owner, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).   The outstanding cast also includes Kurt Russell, Garrett Dillahunt, Walton Goggins, RZA, M.C. Gainey, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, Tom Savini, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Django Unchained opens December 25th.  Hit the jump to see what Jackson had to say about how Tarantino aims to handle the sensitive subject matter.

Walton Goggins Exclusive Interview JUSTIFIED; Plus Updates on STRAW DOGS and COWBOYS & ALIENS

The popular and critically acclaimed FX drama series Justified, developed by Graham Yost and based on the works of crime novelist Elmore Leonard, returns for its highly anticipated Season 2 on February 9th. Fresh off the epic gun battle that concluded Season 1, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) must now face off against the criminal organizations that are moving in to fill the void left by the removal of the Crowder family’s criminal grip on Harlan County. One such foe is Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale), whose family has been the biggest pot farmers in Eastern Kentucky for generations, and which has undoubtedly led to their long-standing feud with Raylan’s family.  Also returning this season is Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), one of the most fascinating and complex characters currently on television. Boyd is Raylan’s long-time friend and ultimate nemesis who is trying to prove to everyone, including himself, that he can reform his past extremist ways.

During a recent exclusive interview with Collider, actor Walton Goggins talked about the appeal of playing the intriguing and often morally ambiguous Boyd Crowder, how his character is starting to find some balance from his past behavior, and how much he enjoys learning about Boyd at the same time the character is learning about himself. He also talked about his roles in the upcoming feature films Cowboys & Aliens, directed by Jon Favreau and due out in theaters on July 29th, and Straw Dogs, also starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, and Alexander Skarsgard. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

JUSTIFIED: Season One Blu-ray Review

by     Posted 3 years, 177 days ago

Timothy Olyphant is a movie star, but only on television. Sadly, between Deadwood and Justified, he’s also one of the only actors today who’s a credible cowboy, having spent three years playing an old west lawman on Deadwood, and now the modern variant in Justified. Here Timothy Olyphant is Raylan Givens, a U.S. Marshall who’s moved from Florida – after shooting a man – to Kentucky, where he grew up. There, he’s surrounded by the life he left behind and tries to arrest Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), who may have blown up a church and killed a man or two. Based on the works of Elmore Leonard, this Graham Yost produced TV show is easily one of the most entertaining action/mystery serials in a good long while. My review of Justified Season One on Blu-ray follows after the jump.
