The crime drama Meeting Evil, (currently available through Magnolia Ultra VOD here prior to the film’s theatrical release on May 4th) follows John (Luke Wilson), a depressed suburban family man and recently fired realtor, who offers to help a stranger named Richie (Samuel L. Jackson) with his car. Upon doing so, John is quickly sucked into a nightmarish murder spree that forces him to go to any length he can to protect his family.
During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, writer/director Chris Fisher talked about how this project came about, why it was important that the characters live in a grey area, what led him to Luke Wilson as the lead, and how intimidating Samuel L. Jackson’s professionalism is. He also talked about being the producing director on the Syfy series Warehouse 13 (he’s directing six of the 20 episodes for the next season), how he’s going to direct a couple episodes for Season 2 of Person of Interest, and how he would sell his soul to direct an episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones. During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Luke Wilson talked about how he came to be a part of the project, that he had played golf with Samuel L. Jackson a few times prior to their working together, his attraction to the film noir feel of the film, playing husband to actress Leslie Bibb, and the most challenging scene to shoot. He also talked about shooting Season 2 of the HBO series Enlightened, from creator Mike White and starring Laura Dern, and how much fun it would be to get to reprise his role from the first film for Anchorman 2. The first trailer and poster for the adaptation of Thomas Berger’s noir thriller Meeting Evil has gone online. If you’ve ever wanted to see Samuel L. Jackson essentially play the Devil, this is your movie. Luke Wilson plays a real estate salesman who is sent into a depression after being fired from his job. One day he ends up going on a joy ride with a stranger named Richie that brings the two down a path towards violence. The movie itself doesn’t look terrible, but it certainly feels like straight-to-DVD fare. The acting is fine, but the trailer pretty much shows the entire movie and I wasn’t thrilled by the results.
Hit the jump to check the trailer out for yourself. Directed by Chris Fisher (S. Darko), the film also stars Leslie Bibb. Meeting Evil will be available VOD on March 30th and hits theaters on May 4th.
