downton-abbey-season-5-cast

Apparently, season four of Downton Abbey was a letdown according to EW, although I’m with our TV editor Allison Keene in thinking it was quite good.  Then again, all of Downton Abbey blurs together for me, and the first Downton Abbey season 5 images could easily be from previous seasons with the exception of Sybbie and George going from babies to young children.  So while there will be another time jump, I’m sure everything will be as prim and proper as ever, and I will continue to watch Downton Abbey as if it were a trashy reality TV series (“He did NOT just think he could keep the estate’s affairs in order while refusing to modernize!”) and enjoying every one of Carson’s harrumphs.

Hit the jump to check out the Downton Abbey season 5 images.  Season five will premiere in the U.K. this fall, and premiere in the U.S. on January 4, 2015 on PBS.

NON-STOP Blu-ray Review

non-stop-blu-ray-review

Liam Neeson has become the go-to asskicker of late.  Even more so than Jason Statham, audiences have responded to Neeson’s world-weary charms and commanding presence.  So it should be no surprise that Jaume Collet-Serra’s Non-Stop was a modest hit earlier this year.  Neeson stars as air marshal Bill Marks, who is forced to act when he’s contacted on an international flight to deliver a $150 Million ransom or a passenger will die every twenty minutes.  My review of Non-Stop follows after the jump.

NON-STOP Review

Non-Stop manages the difficult task of being a solid thriller as well as constantly silly, and the result is a film that was far more entertaining than I expected it to be.  Director Jaume Collet-Serra‘s previously filmography has been underwhelming to say the least, and his previous collaboration with star Liam Neeson, the thriller Unknown, was awful.  But paired with a solid script from John W. Richardson, Christopher Roach, and Ryan Engle, Collet-Serra keeps the story moving, the whodunit a constant question, and utilizes Neeson’s performance to ground the picture so that our eye-rolls don’t do a complete 360.

With director Jaume Collet-Serra‘s Non-Stop opening February 28th, Universal has provided us with five clips from the upcoming action/thriller.  If you haven’t seen the trailer, the film takes place on a transatlantic flight where a U.S. Air Marshall (Liam Neeson) must stop a mysterious hijacker who is threatening to kill a passenger every 20 minutes until $150 million is transferred into a secret account.  The film also stars Julianne Moore, Corey Stoll, Michelle Dockery, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong’O, Bar Paly, and Anson Mount.

Like most of you, I’ve love getting to watch Neeson when he gets to punch people in the face, which I suspect will be a big part of Non-Stop.  I honestly can’t wait to see it.  Hit the jump to watch the clips.

Watch: DOWNTON ABBEY’s Michelle Dockery Is NOT Lady Mary in Funny or Die’s TOUGH JUSTICE with Michael Chiklis

The fourth season of Downton Abbey kicked off last night here in the U.S. to record-breaking ratings, but star Michelle Dockery is ready to stretch her acting chops a bit with something decidedly different: a cop show.  Funny or Die has released a “trailer” for a TNT series called Tough Justice starring Dockery and Michael Chiklis as mismatched cops, and it seems that Dockery is having some trouble fully letting go of her Downton role as Lady Mary, even in the modern world of hardened cops.  The sketch is really funny and shows that Dockery has some serious skills as a comedic actress.  How long before SNL comes calling?  Hit the jump to watch the video.

Universal has released the first trailer, poster, and images for Jaume Collet-Serra‘s Non-Stop.  The film takes place on a transatlantic flight where a U.S. Air Marshall (Liam Neeson) must stop a mysterious hijacker who is threatening to kill a passenger every 20 minutes unless his ransom demand is met.  The movie looks just as crazy as Collet-Serra and Neeson’s previous collaboration, Unknown, but this outing could be a bit more fun due to the setting and the fact that you now have Neeson bringing his bad-assery to the friendly skies.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and images.  The film also stars Julianne Moore, Corey Stoll, Michelle Dockery, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong’O, Bar Paly, and Anson MountNon-Stop opens February 28, 2014.

Returning to PBS’ Masterpiece for Season 4 on January 5, 2014, the hit drama series Downton Abbey returns to find the beloved characters learning to deal with last season’s shocking tragedy.  Cast members Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Sophie McShera, Rob James-Collier, Phyllis Logan, Jim Carter, Penelope Wilton, Lily James and a host of others, will be joined by Shirley MacLaine, Paul Giamatti and a handful of new faces.

During the PBS portion of the TCA Press Tour, Michelle Dockery talked about how sad it was to lose some of the actors last season, Lady Mary’s love life, how Mary will be as a mother, what sort of relationship Mary and Tom (Allen Leech) will have this season, how they’re all signed on for Season 5, and that’s she’s a bit shy about social media.  Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

First Synopsis for Director Jaume Collet-Serra’s NON-STOP Starring Liam Neeson

Last week, Steve attended the American Film Market (AFM) and was able to bring back some first images, posters, and synopses for a handful of upcoming projects.  One such film happens to be the Liam Neeson-fronted action thriller Non-Stop, for which we now have the first detailed synopsis.  The story takes place during an international flight on which Neeson is an Air Mashal.  His character begins to receive a series of text messages from someone who threatens to kill a passenger every 20 minutes until $150 million is transferred into a secret account.

Neeson reunites with Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra for the pic, which is described as a mix of a mystery, actioner, and a Hitchcockian thriller.  Moreover, Collet-Serra has assembled a surprisingly top-notch cast that includes Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, and Michelle Dockery.  Hit the jump to read the full synopsis, which includes more detail.

We’ve got a couple of interesting casting stories to share this afternoon.  First up, a trio of fine actors has joined Liam Neeson in the airplane thriller Non-Stop, raising my interest in the project significantly.  Variety reports that Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly), and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) have joined Non-Stop for director Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) and producer Joel Silver.  Neeson stars as a federal air marshal “who starts receiving text messages from someone claiming to be on the same flight, and who is threatening to kill its passengers.”  Naturally, Neeson must discover the identity of the killer and stop him.  Hit the jump for more, including casting news concerning Lars von Trier’s controversial Nymphomaniac.

2012 Emmy Awards: Our List of Underrated Performances and Shows That Deserve Recognition

Before the 2012 Emmy Nominations are officially announced (July 19th), I wanted to jump in and highlight some of what I believe to be some of the best underrated performances on television this year.  Putting aside some of the perennial winners, the following discussion for each of the major categories is likely to mention plenty of names who won’t get Emmy mentions this year, but certainly should (and others who may get a nod, but likely won’t win).  Hit the jump for the (spoiler-free!) list that is not meant to be exhaustive (after all, I do watch an unhealthy amount of TV but I’m not caught up on everything), but hopefully brings at least a few of those dark horses to light with the recognition they deserve.

Michelle Dockery Talks DOWNTON ABBEY Season 2

by     Posted 2 years, 234 days ago

On Season 2 of Downton Abbey (returning to PBS on January 8, 2012), it is 1916 and World War I has shaken the Crawley family estate to its very foundations. As a way of life is forever blasted apart, alliances are tested as both heroes and villains struggle to survive and forge ahead.

During this interview to promote the return of the popular period drama, actress Michelle Dockery, who plays the clever but cold oldest daughter, Lady Mary Crawley, talked about where things are at with the story in Season 2, what it’s like to play such a complex character, if she could live as emotionally repressed as Lady Mary, and the costume envy that goes on with this show. She also talked about her role in Joe Wright’s next film, an adaptation of Anna Karenina, and her desire to do more modern-day work. Check out what she had to say after the jump.
