Michelle Fairley Talks 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, Playing a Terrorist, Researching the Role, and More

by     Posted 205 days ago

The ticking clock was reset for 24: Live Another Day, a groundbreaking and thrilling new event series following heroic agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), now a fugitive from justice. Willing to risk his life and freedom to avert yet another global disaster, Jack needs the help of his old CTU confidante Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub), if he’s going to keep CIA head Steve Navarro (Benjamin Bratt) and CIA agent Kate Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) off his trail. The show also stars William Devane, Kim Raver, Tate Donovan, Giles Matthey, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Michael Wincott, Stephen Fry and Michelle Fairley.

During this recent interview to discuss the event series, actress Michelle Fairley, who also recently gave very memorable performances as Ava Hessington on the USA series Suits and as Catelyn Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, talked about how she came to this role, taking on terrorist Margot Al-Harazi, who she views as a very committed woman, connecting with a character that is so violent towards other people, getting in on some of the action, how big of a fan she was of 24, prior to doing the show, and how humbling it is to hear from fans of her work.  Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

TV Casting: Donal Logue Confirmed as Det. Harvey Bullock in GOTHAM; Michelle Fairley Joins 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY

We can now confirm that Donal Logue will indeed by joining the new Fox series, Gotham, as “Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor, the rough-around-the-edges Detective Harvey Bullock [who] plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.”  When I think “forceful panache”, I think Donal Logue (but seriously, he’s a great fit for the part).  Logue joins Ben McKenzie in the lead role as Detective James Gordon, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin).

Scripted by Bruno Heller, Gotham explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the above-mentioned villains that made Gotham famous.  Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot.  Hit the jump for news on Michelle Fairley joining 24: Live Another Day.

Steve Coogan and Judi Dench might not immediately jump out to most viewers as an obvious big screen dream team, but director Stephen Frears somehow saw a peanut butter and chocolate combination in the two legendary Brits and brought them together for a bittersweet dramedy (what else?) called Philomena. Mixing remorseful tragedy for Dench and sardonic a-hole comedy for Coogan, the film is an interesting combination and works fairly well. Sure, it’s not perfect. But really, what else could you expect from a clash of screen personalities this unexpected and diametrically opposed? Hit the jump for all the diddy-details.

Comic-Con: GAME OF THRONES Panel Recap; Cast and Crew Remember the Fallen, Talk Season 4 and Participate in a Fan Q&A Along with a Surprise Guest

by     Posted 1 year, 151 days ago

Game of Thrones was an odd presence at Comic-Con’s Hall H last year. On the one hand, it was an obvious inclusion. It’s hugely popular among geeks, and it can fill the room easily. But on the other hand, they had nothing to show because filming on the upcoming hadn’t begun. That also means that showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff weren’t on hand to answer questions. Instead, the panel rests entirely on the actors and their interactions with fans. I assumed we’d be getting the same thing at this year’s Comic-Con panel, but with more actors and a different moderator (Elvis Mitchell instead of author George R.R. Martin). Instead, Weiss and Benioff were on hand, they had some fun stuff to show, and aside from Mitchell’s weak, scattershot questions for the panel, it was a big improvement.

Hit the jump for a recap of the panel. Game of Thrones returns spring 2014.

Comic-Con: GAME OF THRONES Panel Recap

by     Posted 2 years, 156 days ago

At last year’s Comic-Con, we couldn’t fathom why the programmers would stuff Game of Thrones into Ballroom 20, especially when there were so many sparsely-attended panels in Hall H.  This year, even though Hall H has plenty of good stuff, Game of Thrones is in the line-up and rightly so.  It’s easily one of the most popular geek properties currently on TV, and the show only got better in its second season.  While filming on Season 3 hasn’t begun, Season 2 is still fresh in the minds of fans, and Hall H was packed to see author George R.R. Martin and some of the cast to talk about the popular HBO series.

HBO’s Game of Thrones comes at an interesting time in geekdom, and its success speaks to the barriers that have been broken. Though fantasy and science fiction have often been popular cinematically, on television it’s been stuck in a Stargate-esque ghetto. But now we’ve got one of the most thoughtful shows currently on air on one of the most prestigious networks that also happens to be about dragons and swordplay. Perhaps the better arbiter of what crosses over to the mainstream and what doesn’t is quality, and Game of Thrones is definitely an engrossing show even for those who’ve never picked up a twenty sided die. Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy and Peter Dinklage lead a mostly British cast in a tale about warring families in a fantastical middle age. Our review of Game of Thrones on DVD follows after the jump.
