The Killing is officially back from the dead.  After we previously caught wind of the resurrection, it was announced today that the cancelled AMC series The Killing will return for a third season on the network, with Veena Sud back as executive producer/showrunner and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman on tap to reprise their roles as Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder.  The new season picks up one year after the events of the season two finale, with a retired Linden pulled back into the job when her ex-partner’s “search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden.” Hit the jump for more details.

HBO’s True Blood is back this Sunday, June 10th, at 9pm, and the show’s fifth season is sure to be full of bloody mayhem that will hopefully rectify some of last year’s lackluster performance.  As the number of magical creatures and love triangles (love-dodecahedrons, at this point) continues to increase, it may be hard to keep track of who’s alive, who’s dead, who came back and what kind of magic they possess.  Take a spoiler-filled refresher course after the jump to relive the last four seasons of True Blood, including some of the best, worst and weirdest surprises from Bon Temps over the last few years (or moments, if you’re on fairy time).

New Trailer for AMC’s THE KILLING

Just last month we got our first look at AMC’s new series The Killing with a batch of photos from the pilot which premieres on Sunday, April 3rd at 9/8c. Now we finally have the first full trailer for the series. Looks like AMC has another great show on their hands with this crime drama, a remake of the successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen.

If you haven’t been following the development of the series, it weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case.  As stories unfold, it becomes clear that there are no accidents, everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Barely a month separates us from the April 3 two-hour premiere of AMC’s next series The Killing.  Based on the popular Danish series Forbrydelsen, The Killing “tells the story of the murder of a young girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation.”  Mireille Enos (Big Love), Billy Campbell (The 4400), Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash), Michelle Forbes (True Blood), and Brent Sexton (Life) star.

I’ve let The Killing sneak up on me, but AMC has released a couple featurettes that drew me in right quick.  Watch both after the jump.

First Images from AMC’s THE KILLING; Series Premieres Sunday, April 3rd

by     Posted 2 years, 129 days ago

Fitting right in to their usual original programming slot, AMC has announced they will premiere their new original series The Killing on Sunday, April 3rd at 9/8c. Following the premiere, new episodes will air every Sunday at 10/9c on AMC. Since the series is based on the successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen, this is probably the cable network’s least original series endeavor, but it still sounds promising. The series weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case.  As stories unfold, it becomes clear that there are no accidents, everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers. No official trailer has been released yet, but you can check out the first photos from the pilot and information about the cast below.

KALIFORNIA Blu-ray Review

Considering what it represents and the amazing stuff it predates, Dominic Sena’s 1993 film Kalifornia deserves a better Blu-ray release. This bare bones disc contains only a trailer and an unrated version of the film that runs three minutes longer than the theatrical version. That’s pretty insane considering the film could be considered a precursor to Brad Pitt’s crazy roles in Se7en and 12 Monkeys, Lewis’s role in Natural Born Killers, Duchovny was just about to break with The X-Files (the movie and show premiered within a week of each other) and Sena went on to super stardom with films like Swordfish and Gone in 60 Seconds. Well, maybe not the last two. Hit the jump for more.

We just heard last week that AMC was close to holding up its perfect pilot-to-series ratio for its original programming as the network inched closer to picking up The Killing for a full series order. Well today AMC announced via press release that they have officially picked up The Killing as a new original series slated to premiere sometime in 2011. An adaptation of the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen, the story centers on the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation through the perspective of the detectives, the grieving family, and the suspects. We’ll let the full press release after the jump take care of the rest of the details.

True Blood Season 2 Blu-Ray Review

True-Blood-slice

The True Blood actors were brilliantly cast and have completely become the characters created in the now-famous Charlaine Harris “Sookie Stackhouse” books. Strangely, some of the actors that embody southerners in the show are from quite different areas of the world.  Bill the vampire (Stephen Moyer) is British, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is from New Zealand, and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) is Australian. The rest of the brilliant cast, including the flighty waitress Arlene, sardonic Pam the vampire, and Eric Northman, the baddest ex-Viking vampire ever are just a few of the excellent characters that make this show absolutely addictive.  More after the jump:
