The Killing is officially back from the dead. After we previously caught wind of the resurrection, it was announced today that the cancelled AMC series The Killing will return for a third season on the network, with Veena Sud back as executive producer/showrunner and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman on tap to reprise their roles as Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder. The new season picks up one year after the events of the season two finale, with a retired Linden pulled back into the job when her ex-partner’s “search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden.” Hit the jump for more details.

The Killing drew harsh criticism when the central murder of the first season was extended through the second season, with resolution not coming until the season two finale. Presumably as a direct result of the reaction, it was announced that the new season three case will be resolved over the course of its 12 episodes. As the new string of episodes focus on a new case, the characters portrayed by Billy Campbell (Mayor Richmond), Brent Sexton (Stan Larson), and Michelle Forbes (Mitch Larson) will not be returning. Production begins next month in Vancouver, but no airdate has been set. One assumes we might see The Killing back on AMC later this fall.

Here’s the press release:
New York, NY – January 15, 2013 – AMC and Fox Television Studios (FTVS) announced today a new deal which ...

HBO's True Blood is back this Sunday, June 10th, at 9pm, and the show's fifth season is sure to be full of bloody mayhem that will hopefully rectify some of last year's lackluster performance. As the number of magical creatures and love triangles (love-dodecahedrons, at this point) continues to increase, it may be hard to keep track of who's alive, who's dead, who came back and what kind of magic they possess. Take a spoiler-filled refresher course after the jump to relive the last four seasons of True Blood, including some of the best, worst and weirdest surprises from Bon Temps over the last few years (or moments, if you're on fairy time).
Season 1
The Good

Sookie and Bill (before they became a cliché)

Yes, somewhere back in the depths of time there was a point when we rooted for Bill and Sookie. She was a unique and perky waitress and he was a Confederate vampire just looking to do the right thing. Shucks.

The introduction of Jessica

Bill may be one of the worst makers in vampire history, but that didn't keep Jessica down. Her mix of determination and naiveté was fun to watch, especially in her flirtations with Hoyt and as she struggled to understand her new powers.

Jason takes V, is Jason

Jason had a tough time in Season 1 with all of his girlfriends (well, sex partners) getting murdered and him being pegged as the most likely suspect. But he found V, Lizzie Caplan, had some awkward flirtation with Tara, and established himself as King of the ...

Just last month we got our first look at AMC's new series The Killing with a batch of photos from the pilot which premieres on Sunday, April 3rd at 9/8c. Now we finally have the first full trailer for the series. Looks like AMC has another great show on their hands with this crime drama, a remake of the successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen.

If you haven't been following the development of the series, it weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case. As stories unfold, it becomes clear that there are no accidents, everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Barely a month separates us from the April 3 two-hour premiere of AMC's next series The Killing. Based on the popular Danish series Forbrydelsen, The Killing "tells the story of the murder of a young girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation." Mireille Enos (Big Love), Billy Campbell (The 4400), Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash), Michelle Forbes (True Blood), and Brent Sexton (Life) star.

I've let The Killing sneak up on me, but AMC has released a couple featurettes that drew me in right quick. Watch both after the jump.

This one is a little bit older, but if you haven't seen it yet, it makes more sense to watch first as a Killing primer.
The Killing - A First Look

And here's the newest featurette -- an introduction to the characters.

Inside the Killing - The Characters

The Wire is obviously the epitome of this every-angle exploration of local crime. Could The Killing do with Seattle what The Wire did with Baltimore? Well, no -- they're filming in Vancouver, after all.

But I'm from Seattle, so I'm on the hook as the homer. As long as The Killing makes me homesick for the Pacific Northwest and finds time for some quality atmospheric drama, I'm in. Based on what's presented in these featurettes, I like my chances.

The Killing ties together three distinct stories around a single murder including the detectives assigned to the case, the victim's grieving family, and the suspects. Set in Seattle, the story also explores local politics as it follows ...

Fitting right in to their usual original programming slot, AMC has announced they will premiere their new original series The Killing on Sunday, April 3rd at 9/8c. Following the premiere, new episodes will air every Sunday at 10/9c on AMC. Since the series is based on the successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen, this is probably the cable network's least original series endeavor, but it still sounds promising. The series weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case. As stories unfold, it becomes clear that there are no accidents, everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers. No official trailer has been released yet, but you can check out the first photos from the pilot and information about the cast below.

Considering what it represents and the amazing stuff it predates, Dominic Sena’s 1993 film Kalifornia deserves a better Blu-ray release. This bare bones disc contains only a trailer and an unrated version of the film that runs three minutes longer than the theatrical version. That’s pretty insane considering the film could be considered a precursor to Brad Pitt’s crazy roles in Se7en and 12 Monkeys, Lewis’s role in Natural Born Killers, Duchovny was just about to break with The X-Files (the movie and show premiered within a week of each other) and Sena went on to super stardom with films like Swordfish and Gone in 60 Seconds. Well, maybe not the last two. Hit the jump for more.

Kalifornia is about Brian Kessler (Duchovny), an author who plans a long westerly road trip with his girlfriend Carrie (Michelle Forbes) to visit famous murder sites. He hopes visiting the actual places where these crimes took place will make his book more personal and realistic. However, they can’t afford the trip on their own, and decide to split the costs with a pair of strung out strangers named Early and Adele, played by Pitt and Lewis. What Brian doesn’t realize, though, is that on his journey to figure out the mind of a serial killer, he’s actually traveling one.

What’s interesting about Kalifornia is that it doesn’t exactly fit into a typical narrative structure. The entire thing is composed of rising action and the only conflict is the dramatic irony where we, the audience, ...

We just heard last week that AMC was close to holding up its perfect pilot-to-series ratio for its original programming as the network inched closer to picking up The Killing for a full series order. Well today AMC announced via press release that they have officially picked up The Killing as a new original series slated to premiere sometime in 2011. An adaptation of the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen, the story centers on the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation through the perspective of the detectives, the grieving family, and the suspects. We'll let the full press release after the jump take care of the rest of the details.

AMC announced today a full series order for the pilot that was formerly known as The Killing, from writer and executive producer Veena Sud (Cold Case). Sud has signed on to also serve as the showrunner for the series, which is currently untitled. Set in Seattle, the series is based on the wildly successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen and tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation. Produced by Fox Television Studios, it is executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen (Burn Notice) for Fuse Entertainment. Fuses Kristen Campo co-produces. AMC first announced the pilot order in January 2010 with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing the pilot. Production on the series begins this fall in Vancouver and season one consists of 13, one-hour episodes. The series is slated to premiere in 2011 on AMC.

The True Blood actors were brilliantly cast and have completely become the characters created in the now-famous Charlaine Harris “Sookie Stackhouse” books. Strangely, some of the actors that embody southerners in the show are from quite different areas of the world. Bill the vampire (Stephen Moyer) is British, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) is from New Zealand, and Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) is Australian. The rest of the brilliant cast, including the flighty waitress Arlene, sardonic Pam the vampire, and Eric Northman, the baddest ex-Viking vampire ever are just a few of the excellent characters that make this show absolutely addictive. More after the jump:

There are a lot of new duos formed in True Blood’s season two. One romantic pairing consists of Jason Stackhouse’s friend, big loveable oaf Hoyt Fortenberry and vampire Bill’s ward, the new vampire Jessica. The fledgling couple is naïve, sweet and fun to watch, especially when butting heads against the fabulously old-fashioned Bill’s dating style. The unlikely team of the tactless Detective Andy Bellfleur and dim-witted Jason Stackhouse is one of the most fun pairings on the show yet. The much-misunderstood Detective Bellfleur seems to be the only one in town who catches on to the rising power and weirdness of the visiting Maenad, who is wreaking havoc all over Bon Temp’s inhabitants. Jason is Andy’s willing Deputy, and together the two attempt to set the town to rights, with hilarious results.

Another fantastic new pair is Michael McMillian as Reverend Steve Newlin, the founder of the vampire-hating ...
