After playing one of Superman’s two fathers in this summer’s Man of Steel, it appears that Kevin Costner is ready to lead a thriller of his own. THR reports that the actor is in talks to star in the thriller Midnight Delivery, which is being produced by Guillermo del Toro. Based on an idea by del Toro, the story centers on a man who turns himself into a drug mule in order to save his daughter’s life. Luther creator Neil Cross co-wrote the script with del Toro, and while Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk was previously attached to direct, that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. The production is eyeing a fall shoot though, so we should hear more word on the director front shortly.
Costner most recently wrapped the sports dramedy Draft Day and McG’s thriller Three Days to Kill. He’ll be seen later this year opposite Chris Pine in Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan.
When last we reported on Midnight Delivery, it was to tell you that the Guillermo del Toro production for Universal would be written by Neil Cross (UK’s MI-5). Now it seems that the project has found a director in Brian Kirk, from HBO’s Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. The script, based off an idea by del Toro, concerns a man who turns himself into a drug mule in order to save his son’s life.
Kirk recently turned down the opportunity to direct Marvel’s Thor 2, citing “creative and financial sticking points.” Gary Ungar will executive produce for Midnight Delivery with Universal’s VP of Production Scott Bernstein and Director of Development Anikah McLaren overseeing the project. As Variety reports, production plans to start next year as soon as Cross has turned in his latest draft.
We have two pieces of Guillermo del Toro news for you this afternoon. First up, Pajiba is reporting that del Toro is producing Midnight Delivery with Gary Ungar (Gothika) for Universal. The story, written by Neil Cross (the British TV series MI:5) , centers on a father who becomes a drug mule to save his son’s life, which isn’t the worst reason ever to become a drug mule.
