Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Hangover Part III.  The first trailer almost made the movie look like an action flick, but now we’re getting a look at the comedy and the plot.  In the series’ final installment, Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Doug (Justin Bartha) are taking Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to a psychiatric hospital, but the gang is side-trekked when a mysterious man (John Goodman) kidnaps Doug and forces the wolf pack to track down Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), who stole $21 million from Goodman’s character.  There are some good laughs in here, so hopefully the trilogy will go out on a high note.

The first trailer for director Todd Phillips’ comedy sequel The Hangover Part III has been released.  Billed with the tagline “It All Ends”, and Stu threatening to burn Las Vegas to the ground, the trailer for Part III comes off more like an action movie than a comedy.  There are some jokes (the trailer closes with a great one), but more than anything, it looks like Warner Bros. is trying to push the idea that the trilogy’s conclusion won’t be a retread like The Hangover Part II.  Let’s hope so.

In somewhat disappointing news today, HBO has decided to pass on Da Brick, a drama pilot from Academy Award-nominated director Spike Lee and boxing legend, Mike Tyson. Written by John Ridley and directed by Lee, Da Brick was partially inspired by Tyson’s formative youth and looked at what it was like to be a young, black man in an America that is supposedly “post-racial.” The project began when Tyson was on the set of Entourage for a guest role and he mentioned to series creator, Doug Ellin that he’d like to build a show around his own life, much like they did for Mark Wahlberg’s early days. What’s most disappointing to me is that John Boyega (Attack the Block) was set to star as Donnie, the central character who is a young boxer fresh out of juvenile detention on his 18th birthday. I would have been infinitely more interested in Boyega’s performance than the show’s premise itself, but as Deadline reports, HBO has passed. Such a shame. Da Brick was executive produced by Lee, Tyson, Ridley and Ellin.

Back in 2010, Mike Tyson appeared in a guest role on Entourage.  Apparently, while on set, Tyson and series creator Doug Ellin had a conversation.  Ellin said that during the conversation, “Mike asked me, why don’t do with my life what we did with Mark’s life?”

According to Deadline, instead of taking the suggestion as a joke, Ellin instead set about crafting a dramatic series around Mike Tyson’s experience growing up as a boxer in an urban environment.  After developing the project with his production partner, Jim Lefkowitz, Ellin passed writing duties to John Ridley who then convinced Spike Lee to direct the project.

Warner Bros. has released six character posters for director Todd Phillip’s The Hangover Part II.  If you remember the character posters from the first Hangover movie, these are going to look very familiar.  Saying that, if you ran a marketing campaign and your movie was the highest grossing R Rated film in history, I’d probably run the same campaign as well.  After all, I wouldn’t want to be the one to fuck it up.

While all the posters are good, the monkey poster that says “we love to party” is definitely the best.  It reminds me of the chicken and tiger posters from the first movie.  This is a good thing.  Hit the jump for the posters, click here for the trailer, and here’s all our Hangover coverage.  The Hangover Part II gets released May 26.

As he does every year following the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel had some star-studded sketches for his post-Oscar episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.  While this year wasn’t quite as good as the Handsome Men’s Club, it’s tough to argue with watching gorgeous actresses like Scarlett Johansson and Sofia Vergara engage in a new work-out regimen called “Humpilates”.  Basically, Kimmel and his writers found an excuse to have some of Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses hump exercise balls bearing the word “hobo”.  I have no problem with that.

Kimmel also ran a fake trailer for an American adaptation of The King’s Speech called The President’s Speech, where Sir Mike Tyson helps George W. Bush overcome his constant verbal gaffes.  Hit the jump to check out both sketches.

Warner Bros. has released the teaser trailer for The Hangover Part II.  Rather than highlight a joke or two, the teaser makes the odd decision to highlight all of the critical acclaim for The Hangover.  It’s not necessarily a bad decision, but I would have liked to see at least one joke beyond “Hey, look!  A monkey wearing clothes!”  It’s probably just best to think of this as an announcement trailer and wait until the serious trailer hits in probably about six weeks or so.

Even though The Hangover Part II is just five months away from release, we’re still pretty much in the dark on the film. There’s no trailer, a very brief synopsis, and only one official image has been released—until now. The latest issue of EW features a new image of Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms from the film, but it’s a little low-resolution. Not to fear—we’ve landed the high-resolution version of the image which features our first look at Ed Helms’ Mike Tyson-esque face tattoo.  If that alone doesn’t make you want to buy a ticket right now, something’s seriously wrong with you. Just a few minutes ago we posted the first official images from tons of upcoming Warner Bros. movies like Sherlock Holmes Part II, Hall Pass, Horrible Bosses, and many others.  However, buried in the WB 2011 preview kit was the first official synopsis for The Hangover Part II.  While we already knew the gang was going to Thailand, we didn’t know the reason why:

In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy “The Hangover,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined.

Jamie Chung has joined the cast of The Hangover 2.  According to THR, Chung will be playing the fiancée of Ed Helms’ character, Stu.  No word if this is a real fiancée or if it’s another drunken fiasco like Stu’s engagement to the stripper/escort played by Heather Graham in the first movie.  While Graham will not be returning for the sequel, supporting characters Ken Jeong and Mike Tyson have somehow found a place in the new movie, which will be set in Thailand.  In addition to Chung, the only other new face in the movie (that we know of so far) is a cameo role of a Bangkok tattoo artist played by Liam Neeson.

Chung will next be seen in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.  She also recently finished shooting on the thriller Premium Rush opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  The Hangover 2 is set to open on May 26, 2011.

Few films have come out the box recently like The Hangover. Sure there have been films that have become a part of the conversation, and the Apatow films were hundred million dollar pictures, but The Hangover was a phenomenon. Granted I live in a world where people don’t make “fat Jesus” jokes any more. As part of the target demo for this, I’m happy my friends aren’t the guys quoting this film ad nauseum, but I feel like this film managed to hit the nerves that Austin Powers did in maximum quotability, so my residual like may be tempered by other’s exhaustion. My review of The Hangover Blu-ray after the fold.

During the Las Vegas press junket for “The Hangover”, I was one of the few people that got to interview Mike Tyson. As a kid that grew up playing his video game on the Nintendo NES, it was a real thrill to be able to ask him some questions. Also, it’s not everyday you get to talk with one of the greatest boxers of all time.

As most of you have seen in the TV spots and trailers, Mike Tyson plays a small but important part in director Todd Phillips “The Hangover”. If you’ve seen the movie…you know what I’m talking about.

During my interview we talked about making the film, video games, his documentary “Tyson”, working with the tiger, his co-stars, and a lot more. If you’ve seen “The Hangover” or are just a fan of Iron Mike, you’ll enjoy this interview. Take a look after the jump:

The verdict on Mike Tyson seems to be in and the man’s legacy is a rise and fall and not a particularly tragic fall at that.  The world sees him as a thug, a convicted rapist, a dirty fighter, and all of it undercut with a ridiculous speech impediment.  No one takes Mike Tyson seriously and even if we did, we would force ourselves to wonder why we even cared.

James Toback’s documentary about his friend is largely presented in Tyson’s own words and those words, while not a redemption of any kind, at least transform the disgraced fighter into more than a joke.  Furthermore, the film abstains from trying to white-wash Tyson’s character with Tyson continually apologetic and taking most of the blame for his downfall almost to the point where it feels not rehearsed or insincere, but strange.  Tyson’s constant apologies and reflections reminded me of Steve Buscemi’s character in “Con Air” where the character was psychotic but he had been psychoanalyzed to the point where all he could do was echo all the textbook psychoanalysis when looking at the world.  It’s clear that Tyson has had heavy therapy but again, there’s really no redemption to be found here beyond him loving his family and trying to pay the bills.

The fundamental problem of “Tyson” is that it never provides a reason for its existence beyond an attempt to humanize Mike Tyson (begging the question, why do we need to humanize Mike Tyson?).  By letting Tyson serve as his own biographer, we’re denied any insight from those around him and while autobiography is fascinating, as documentary, it feels like we’re only getting one side of the story and at best, Toback is trying to make the point that everyone around Tyson sees him either tragically or comically but no fresh ideas can be gleamed from their insights.
