Pixar has announced the voice casts for two of its upcoming films during the D23 convention today.  Director Bob Peterson’s The Good Dinosaur, which opens next summer, takes place on an Earth where the asteroid never killed the dinosaurs and the creatures now live happily alongside humans.  The lead character, a dinosaur named Arlo, will be voiced by Lucas Neff (Raising Hope), while Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, and Judy Greer voice his siblings.  The dinosaur mother and father will be voiced by John Lithgow and Frances McDormandThe Good Dinosaur opens in theaters on May 30, 2014.

Pixar’s next film, Up director Peter Docter’s Inside Out, takes place within an 11-year-old girl’s mind as she is forced to move to San Francisco.  The fantastic voice cast—playing the girl’s emotions—includes Amy Poehler as the lead character, Joy, Bill Hader (there’s no such thing as too much Bill Hader) as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, and The Office’s Phyllis Smith as Sadness.  Inside Out opens in theaters on June 19, 2015.  Look for Dave’s full recaps of the D23 Pixar panels later today. [Update: We've added new concept art images and the official synopsis for both films after the jump.]

THIS IS THE END Review

Judd Apatow‘s past collaborators have exceeded him.  Left to make a movie without his direct oversight, stars Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson have made a film with the influence of Apatow’s past work, but none of his recent weaknesses.  That’s not to say that these actors are only indebted to Apatow or that their comic talent came from working with the successful writer/director/producer.  But they’ve all worked with him in the past, and their latest effort, guided by a script and direction from Rogen and Evan Goldberg, leaves behind comic one-upmanship and endless riffing to provide a balanced comic dynamic that’s able to navigate a loose plot to big laughs.

After the first red-band trailer debuted earlier this week, a new green-band trailer for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This Is the End is now available.  The film definitely looks funny, but I’m wondering how long the premise of celebrity-self-parody can last.  Usually, this kind of performance is a cameo, but This Is the End is all about Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, and Craig Robinson playing “versions” of themselves.  I’m assuming that as long as the quips and jokes keep coming as quickly as they do in this trailer, then the self-parody won’t wear out its welcome.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Jason Segel, Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, Kevin Hart, Aziz Ansari, Martin Starr, and more.  This Is the End opens June 12th.

The first clip and poster for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s directorial debut, the apocalypse comedy This Is the End, has been released online.  It’s perfect timing, as tomorrow may or may not be the end of the world as we know it, so keep in mind that this could be the only piece of footage from This Is the End that your eyes will see before an unholy Mayan apocalypse engulfs us all.  It’d be a shame if the world did end tomorrow, though, because This Is the End looks fantastic.  Rogen, Jay BaruchelJames Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride all play themselves in the aftermath of the apocalypse to hilarious results, with plenty of self-referential comedy to go around.  McBride in particular is excellent in this clip, and if this is any indication of what the full film is like, then This Is the End will be the must-see comedy of next summer.

Hit the jump to watch the clip which features a timely introduction by Rogen and Franco, and to check out the film’s poster and a new image.  The film also stars Jason Segel, Michael Cera, Emma Watson, David KrumholtzPaul Rudd, Martin Starr, Mindy Kaling, Kevin Hart, and Rihanna.  This Is the End opens on June 14, 2013.

Reilly) from the arcade game “Fix-It Felix Jr.” who decides he wants to be the hero, and escapes to other video game worlds.  The film’s trailer—and premise—is very geek friendly, with video game references and cameos galore.  Now a number of voice actors have been added to the roster, including Alan Tudyk, Ed O’Neill, Mindy Kaling, Adam Carolla, Horatio Sanz, Dennis Haysbert, Rachel Harris, and many more.

You’re driving down the street, and it’s suddenly blocked off.  You notice these weird yellow signs with nonsensical letters or numbers.  There’s unusual glow lighting up a neighborhood you can’t usually see from your house.  What you might have here is a film company shooting in your town.  It happens a lot, and you never know where they might pop up…until now.

The following is a semi-comprehensive list of films currently shooting, what they’re shooting, and where they’re shooting.  We’ll be telling you where you might get to see the very famous, the kinda famous and (if all goes well) the soon-to-be famous. While we can’t list every single movie, television show, or student film in production, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what the heck is going on where all those people are buzzing about.  Want to know where in the world are Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Woody Harrelson, and Leonardo DiCaprio? Earlier today, Fox announced the lineup for their fall 2012 scheduleGlee will now air on Thursday nights, and the network has created an all-comedy block on Tuesday nights with New Girl, Raising Hope, and two new comedy series.  The network has now unveiled full trailers for said comedy series (and one that debuts midseason), so we now have a better idea of what to expect from the network’s new offerings.  Despite having a terrible title, The Mindy Project actually looks really promising.  Kaling, who also created the series, stars as a young physician who’s trying to break some bad habits in her personal life.  Kaling is likeable and funny as the lead, and she’s buoyed by a strong supporting cast that includes Chris Messina (Damages) and Richard Schiff (The West Wing).  The Bill Hader and Ed Helms cameos don’t hurt either.  I like what I’ve seen, and it looks like The Mindy Project should make for a fine companion to New Girl on Tuesday nights.

Hit the jump to watch the trailers for all the new Fox comedies, including two other promising additions: Midseason series The Goodwin Games from How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and the sibling comedy Ben and Kate.

NBC Renews PARENTHOOD; Orders 13-Episode Final Season of 30 ROCK [Updated]

parenthood-30-rock-slice

Two on-the-bubble NBC shows have officially been given the order for new seasons.  The critical favorite yet ratings challenged drama Parenthood has been renewed for a 15-episode fourth season (per TV Line).  Showrunner Jason Katims is no stranger to ratings issues despite favorable reviews, as he led the stellar Friday Night Lights through five seasons of “will it be renewed?” drama.  I’m a fan of the ensemble and tone of Parenthood, but Katims will most likely have his hands full next season as his medical pilot County is said to be close to a pick up.  That show will star Jason Ritter, who led the doomed The Event and has been a frequent guest star on Parenthood.

Hit the jump for news regarding renewals for The Office and a final season for 30 Rock, as well as speculation about the fate of Community and Parks and Recreation. [Update: The Office hasn't officially been renewed yet, but with deals almost done for the main cast members a renewal is expected]

Red-Band Trailer for THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT Starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt

A red-band trailer for The Five-Year Engagement has gone online.  The film follows Jason Segel and Emily Blunt through the ups and downs of their prolonged engagement.  Segel reteams with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller on the film, and I’m a big fan of what we’ve seen thus far.  This red-band trailer focuses on some of the dirtier jokes we were expecting from a Judd Apatow-produced comedy, with a fairly great sex scene between Segel and Blunt thrown in for good measure.  It’s also nice to see The 40-Year Old Virgin scene-stealer Kevin Hart back in an Apatow comedy.  I love the ensemble cast that Stoller has put together and I’m excited to watch everyone play off of one another in the finished film.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and don’t forget to check out Steve’s set visit coverage including 20 things to know about the film and bunch of on set interviews.  We also posted 24 images and five clips.  The film also stars Chris Pratt, Alison Brie, Rhys Ifans, David Paymer, Mimi Kennedy, Jacki Weaver, Brian Posehn, and Mindy Kaling. The Five-Year Engagement opens on April 27th.
