New Footage from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to Air During the MTV Movie Awards

by     Posted 2 years, 208 days ago

The populist MTV Movie Awards always give fans a chance to celebrate not only the movies they love, but to get a look at the movies they’re planning to love.  Last year, the MTV Movie Awards gave audiences their first look at The Hunger Games (it was Katniss firing an arrow!  The world was never the same again), and this year they’ll be giving Bat-fans yet another look at The Dark Knight Rises.  It will be yet another step towards reaching the critical mass where two-thirds of the movie will be completely spoiled as the marketing machine rolls on.  I remember the good old days (2011) when people freaked out because we showed set photos featuring the Batwing.

Hit the jump for the press release.  The 2012 MTV Movie Awards will air live on Sunday, June 3rd at 9:00pm ET/PT.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th.

Since the MTV Movie Awards air in the middle of the summer, they’re allowed to pull from successful spring pictures.  This year, they’ve done exactly that and awarded The Hunger Games with eight nominations.  However, MTV didn’t forget the movies of last summer, and also gave eight nods to Bridesmaids.  As for the other nominees, the Twilight series has always dominated the MTV Movie Awards in the past, but The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 only pulled in two nominations this year.  It may be a case of out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new, but it’s worth noting that this was the first year where nominees were chosen by a panel of industry insiders instead of online voting.  I don’t know why MTV made that change (it’s not like anyone can make the awards more respectable), but fans will still get to choose the winners.  While the MTV Movie Awards are really more of a platform for funny sketches and showing clips from upcoming movies, an awards ceremony that allows you to give Drive an award for “A Real Hero” can’t be all bad.

Hit the jump to check out the nominees.  The 2012 MTV Movie Awards air live on June 3rd at 9/8c.

Ziah Colon, Jeff Davis and Crystal Reed MTV Movie Awards 2011 slice

While covering the red carpet for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, we managed to corner the market in mid-80s teen remake coverage. In addition to our video interview with Footloose director Craig Brewer, we spoke to Ziah Colon, who takes over for Sarah Jessica Parker in the part in the remake. We also spoke to Criminal Minds creator and Teen Wolf Executive Producer Jeff Davis as well as his female lead, Crystal Reed.

During the interviews we discuss how Teen Wolf draws inspiration from both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and William Shakespeare, Davis’s most embarrassing high school moment, how a lily white boy can learn to dance and much more.  Hit the jump for the interviews and a fun drinking game.

Exclusive: Director Craig Brewer Talks FOOTLOOSE, TARZAN, MOTHER TRUCKER and Gives us a Brief Synopsis of HUSTLE & FLOW 2

by     Posted 3 years, 194 days ago

While covering the red carpet for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, we were able to get a few minutes with Craig Brewer to discuss his upcoming remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon dance flick, Footloose. While a remake of a gimmicky teen movie isn’t something that Collider would normally be excited for, Footloose stands a better than average chance of standing out thanks to the ample talents of Brewer, who has made a name for himself by crafting films that transcend their tawdry premises with detailed character work and stellar cinematography.

During the interview we discussed what attracted Brewer to the project, the shift from musical numbers to dance numbers, the racial politics of his upcoming Tarzan reboot, the future of his other projects including Mother Trucker and Hustle & Flow 2, and much more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Hosted by Jason Sudeikis and held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., MTV’s 2011 “Movie Awards” was as much about the exclusive sneak peeks of such films as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 and Super 8 as it was the winners. Of course, the big winners of the night were the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, as they took the awards for Best Movie, Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson), Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), Best Kiss (Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart) and Best Fight (Robert Pattinson vs. Bryce Dallas Howard), proving that their fan support is stronger than ever.

The show celebrated cinema’s next generation of talent with first-time winners Justin Bieber (Best Jaw-dropping Moment), Chloë Grace Moretz (Best Break-out Star and Biggest Bad-ass Star), Ellen Page (Best Scared As Shit Performance), Emma Stone (Best Comedic Performance) and Alexys Nycole Sanchez (Best Line from a Movie), as well as returning favorite Tom Felton (Best Villain). Fan favorite actress Reese Witherspoon was honored with this year’s “MTV Generation Award.” Hit the jump for photos of some of the winners and attendees:

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, INCEPTION, and HARRY POTTER Lead the Nominations for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards

The film world was rocked to it’s very core today with the announcement of the nominees for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, the only movie awards show with the courage to hand out trophies for categories like “Best Kiss,” “Biggest Badass Star,” and “Best Scared-As-S**t Performance” (MTV still thinks it would be too much to include the letters “h” and “i”). Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was The Twilight Saga: Eclipse that lead the pack with 8 nominations, followed closely by Inception with 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 with 6, and The Social Network with 5 nods.  Obviously Twilight will win everything because fandom doesn’t care about critically comparing their favored property against other material.

As previously announced, Jason Sudeikis will be hosting the awards live on Sunday June 5th. If you’re desperate to make sure that Steve-O gets that coveted “Best Jaw-Dropping Moment” statue for the Poo Cocktail Supreme in Jackass 3D (7) (about which he told MTV, “Being nominated in this category for my work with poo really means something.  I’m not sure what, but I’m very grateful.”), voting will take place at from today until June 4. That is except for the “Best Movie” category, which fans can continue to vote for while the awards ceremony is taking place. Hit the jump for the full list of awards and nominations.

Jason Sudeikis to Host 2011 MTV MOVIE AWARDS

by     Posted 3 years, 237 days ago

Joining the ranks of Andy Samberg, Mike Myers, Justin Timberlake, Seann William Scott and most recently Aziz Ansari, MTV has just announced that Saturday Night Live star Jason Sudeikis will host the 2011 MTV Movie Awards live on Sunday, June 5th at 9/8c. This will be the 20th movie awards for the cable network and will mark Sudeikis’ first time hosting the ceremony, or for that matter, any televised awards events. Nominees for the movie awards haven’t yet been announced, but since voting for the winners is supposed to open on May 3rd, you can expect to hear about all the nominees in outlandish categories like Best Scared As Shit Performance and Best Line from a Movie very soon.

Sudeikis, who has been on SNL for six years now, has some genuine comedic talent which was most recently put on display in Going the Distance, so I’m interested to see what he does with the over-the-top awards show. The comedian commented on his new gig, “I’m sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically-lauded movie award show hosting in 2011 alive.” I can’t wait to see what kind of film parodies they deliver this year, but I’m not sure if they can top J.J. Abrams playing keyboard in that Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions music video from a couple years back.

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet Interviews with Jake Abel (I AM NUMBER FOUR) and Nicola Peltz (THE LAST AIRBENDER)

by     Posted 4 years, 196 days ago

Last night at the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards, I was able to catch up with Jake Abel (Percy Jackson, D.J. Caruso’s upcoming sci-fi film I Am Number Four) and Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender). Abel provided us with some info about his part in I Am Number Four and said he was “one of the main antagonists”. Peltz talked about her role as Katara in M. Night Shymalan’s The Last Airbender and her next project, Unbound Captives, which co-stars Robert Pattinson, Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. She also mentioned that she has seen Airbender (but only in 2D) and it’s “amazing”.

Is Tom Cruise Spinning-Off His TROPIC THUNDER Alter-Ego Les Grossman into His Own Movie?

by     Posted 4 years, 196 days ago

Tom Cruise as Les Grossman was easily the best part of Tropic Thunder. And that’s saying a lot.  Tom Cruise as Les Grossman was easily the best part of last night’s MTV Movie Awards. Which isn’t saying much.

So, is the world ready for even more Les Grossman? Tom Cruise may be working on bringing everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed studio honcho back to the big screen in his very own movie.  Fresh off the high from his performance with Jennifer Lopez at the MTV Movie Awards, Cruise told E! “We’re working on it. Yup, we’re working on it.”

Whether he was being completely serious or not has yet to be determined, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear any more news in regards to the project.

Edgar Wright Talks SCOTT PILGRIM, the BLOOD AND ICE CREAM Trilogy, and ANT-MAN on the Red Carpet of the MTV Movie Awards

by     Posted 4 years, 196 days ago

Last night, I got a chance to speak with writer/director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) on the red carpet for the MTV Movie Awards where Wright debuted new footage from his upcoming film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I was able to talk to Wright about his Scott Pilgrim reshoots/pickups, the future of his Blood and Ice Cream trilogy (the first two parts are Shaun and Hot Fuzz) with Simon Pegg and his upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival. I also learned that with all his efforts focused Pilgrim, Wright hasn’t begun to think about casting for Ant-Man. Hit the jump to read or listen to the full interview and for a full Scott Pilgrim synopsis. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World hits theaters August 13, 2010.

Aziz Ansari to Host MTV Movie Awards

by     Posted 4 years, 245 days ago

In a sign that this year’s MTV Movie Awards may be worth watching, comedian Aziz Ansari has come on board to host the ceremony.  While I can almost guarantee all the awards will be going to either New Moon or Avatar, what people talk about are the sketches and the jokes and Ansari kills at both.  His series with Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer, Human Giant (which also aired on MTV), as well as his latest comedy special, Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening, are both hilarious and well worth checking out.

Hit the jump for the full press release along with videos from Human Giant and Intimate Moments.  You should also be watching Ansari on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, which is one of the funniest shows on television.

Aziz Ansari in Final Negotiations to Host the MTV Movie Awards

by     Posted 4 years, 272 days ago

Aziz Ansari image slice (1).jpg

How do you get a clearly middle-aged dude who really couldn’t care less about any kind of Twilight movies to tune in to the upcoming MTV Movie Awards?  Well, getting extremely funny man Aziz Ansari to host would certainly be a good start.

According to the L.A. Times, the Parks and Recreation star is in final negotiations to host the broadcast, which will unfurl live as usual June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City. The nominations themselves have yet to be revealed.

Aziz live and unfiltered? Yeah, I’ll tune in for that. He’s the funniest thing about Parks and Recreation and was the only funny person in Judd Apatow’s woefully mistitled Funny People, and I’m betting he’ll be the funniest cat in Get Him to the Greek too when that hits June 4. Hit the jump for a list of the dates when, if you’re lucky enough to get a ticket, you can see Ansari live on his Dangerously Delicious standup tour this summer.

Vote for Thomas Lennon for the MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss. Or He’ll Punch You in the Dick.

by     Posted 5 years, 212 days ago

thomas_lennon.jpgLadies, you don’t know this, but getting punched in the dick, really hurts.  Like, a lot.  I mean, I’ve heard that childbirth is really bad and painful but that can only happen at a roughly pre-determined time and plus you’ve had like nine months to prepare.  No one sends guys a notice saying “Nine months from now, expect a punch in the dick.”  If they did, we’d wear cups.

So I take Thomas Lennon’s threat of punching people in the dick very seriously.  I mean, I wasn’t that invested in the Best Kiss category of the MTV Movie Awards and I already voted for his liplock with Paul Rudd in “I Love You, Man” but I kind of think I should vote again just to be on the safe side.

My question is what’s Lennon going to do when all the “Twilight” fans beat him by voting for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.  Girls don’t have dicks.  YOUR MOVE, LENNON.

Check out Thomas Lennon’s campaign video/threat after the jump and click here to vote for him, especially if you’re a guy.  Your dick will thank you.
