The cast of MTV’s Teen Wolf stopped by WonderCon on Saturday to give fans a taste of what is to come in the show’s much anticipated third season. Before the panel, I was able to sit down for a roundtable interview with star Dylan O’Brien, who plays the much loved “Stiles” Stilinski on the show, to discuss what’s new in Beacon Hills. O’Brien hinted at a lot of secrets being revealed about Deaton and the Argents, as well has his new relationship with Lydia. He also talked about the possibility of collaborating with creator/executive producer Jeff Davis to write a full episode of the show sometime in the future. Hit the jump for what he had to say. Season three of MTV’s Teen Wolf premieres Monday, June 3rd.

The airwaves will be down a few overtanned Italians come next year. MTV has announced today that the upcoming sixth season of the popular “reality” series Jersey Shore will be the last. The show premiered in 2009 and quickly become a cultural phenomenon with its cast of colorful characters coining absurd, nonsensical phrases and punching the air for no reason. The show’s ratings began to decline in its fifth season, with last year’s finale netting 4.99 million viewers. That’s really not too shabby for cable television, but it’s a far cry from the season three high of 8.87 million.
MTV’s decision to cancel Jersey Shore likely wasn’t only about ratings, as the cast had visibly grown a bit tired of pretending to live comfortably in a rental house and drumming up faux drama. Moreover, Snooki is spawning a child (God help us all), and watching Mom Snooki on future seasons of Jersey Shore would just be depressing. If you’re sad to see the crew go, rest assured knowing that more spinoff series a la Snooki & JWOWW and The Pauly D Project are likely on the way. Season five of Jersey Shore kicks off on October 4th, which will be preceded by an hour-long retrospective on September 6th.

Shortly after MTV’s Teen Wolf won Best Youth-Oriented Television Series at this year’s Saturn Awards, I landed an extended video interview with creator/executive producer Jeff Davis backstage. We talked about the recent twenty-four episode third season pickup, why the production is moving from Atlanta to Los Angeles, how he follows Joss Whedon’s “big bad” paradigm and how they keep the show fresh by bringing in new actors but balancing the regular characters’ appearances, and more. In addition, Davis teases a bloody end to season two and big changes ahead for season three. Hit the jump to watch.

It took MTV eight long years to release their seminal late ’90s animated satire series Daria onto DVD, and it seems that the network is looking to again belatedly capitalize on its popularity by re-airing episodes this summer. The newly dubbed “Retro Mania” block will also include frothy summer fare The Hills and Laguna Beach, which will have their runs first before returning to the (relative) sanity of Lawndale High.
The major reason Daria stayed off of DVD for so long was because of music licensing, and as someone who now owns the series I can definitively say that there is something lacking as Daria and Jane’s witticisms are set to generic “filler” music rather than Beck, Rage Against the Machine or Smashing Pumpkins. Still, the series is always worth a revisit regardless, though a return to its original score would be a treat. For more on the Retro Mania lineup, hit the jump.

On Season 2 of MTV’s hit drama series Teen Wolf, there are new complications, new werewolves and new villains, along with all the twists, turns and cliffhangers that fans have come to expect. Set against the backdrop of contemporary teen life, and with a forbidden romance at its core, the war between hunters and werewolves is escalating, leading new Alpha Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) to strengthen his pack and attempt to bring Scott (Tyler Posey) into the fold, while Scott’s girlfriend Allison (Crystal Reed) is being molded into a skilled werewolf hunter.
During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, show creator/executive producer Jeff Davis talked about where things are headed this season, keeping the show grounded in reality, when he realized the show was being received in the way that he’d hoped, what he felt worked best in Season 1, the challenges of incorporating new characters in an organic way, developing the look for the new female werewolf, possible character deaths, what fans will enjoy about the Season 1 DVD, and already thinking ahead to Season 3. He also talked about wanting to do a horror movie one day, and that he would love to do a Marvel comic book movie (his favorite comic character is Dr. Strange). The people at MTV, who have long decided that their dedication to music is a thing of the past, have found a new niche in teen-centric TV series, especially with their new, Twilight-esesque take on Teen Wolf, which just had its season premiere last night after the MTV Movie Awards (be sure to check out that new footage from The Dark Knight Rises that premiered during the show last night). Now the network has set their sights on a more recent horror property for their next series endeavor as Scream has been lined up to get the TV treatment.

The MTV pop culture phenomenon Punk’d is back, with bigger laughs, better surprises and unbelievable pranks, revealing the vulnerable and fun-loving side of Hollywood’s A-list celebrities. This season, Ashton Kutcher is passing the torch to a different celebrity host each week, including such notables as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Twilight Saga star Kellan Lutz, Hayden Panettiere, Jackass star Bam Margera and Punk’d alum Dax Shepard, among many others, all of whom attempt to punk their unsuspecting famous friends.
During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, executive producer Jason Goldberg talked about how the return of Punk’d came about, how a general meeting with Justin Bieber inspired the idea of having different celebrity hosts, why they decided to show the extent of what goes on behind-the-scenes in order to pull off such incredible pranks, how their team extensively interviews everyone who gets punk’d prior to the prank, the pranks he’s particularly proud of pulling off this season, and the factors that they look at when they’re deciding what projects they want to get involved with. We’ve been hearing about their imminent return since February, and Comic-Con brought a sneak preview of what’s to come from the idiotic duo, but now you get your chance to see a trailer for the comeback of Beavis and Butt-Head for yourself. Fortunately, the animation style is just as it was back in the 90′s, but perhaps looking a little more like the higher budget feature film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America than the original series. It’s been 15 years since they had their series on TV, but the channel surfing couch potatoes still deliver as they find themselves wanting to become vampires and werewolves to impress chicks and riffing on MTV’s reality TV show Jersey Shore. This looks like a triumphant return for Mike Judge’s signature characters on October 27th at 10/9c, but you can decide for yourself by watching the trailer after the jump.

All the drama and laughs of Season 1 of the MTV series Awkward have been leading up to the special one-hour season finale on September 27th. That explosive episode promises to answer the burning questions of who Jenna (Ashley Rickards) will choose – either her longtime secret crush, Matty (Beau Mirchoff), or Jake (Brett Davern), the guy who wants everyone to know he likes her – and who really wrote her that letter.
During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor Beau Mirchoff talked about how he can relate to Matty McKibben, promised that hearts will be broken in the season finale, how he’s looking forward to further exploring his character in Season 2, and how dedicated everyone is to the show. He also talked about his role in the upcoming feature film The Secret Lives of Dorks, and said that he’s up for anything and everything that he thinks will be fun to try. I’m surprised MTV still holds the Video Music Awards considering they don’t show music videos any more. But they hold it every year because you can have the latest music sensation hop on stage to perform and hopefully Kanye West will do something crazy. It’s also an opportunity to promote other aspects of the MTV brand and this year’s VMA will be broadcasting the first footage from Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games. As we previously reported, the soundtrack will feature a collection of artists so maybe that’s the reason to provide the first look during a music ceremony, but it’s also just there to boost ratings.
Thankfully, I won’t have to sit through the awful broadcast to see the footage. Immediately after it airs, MTV will put it on their website. That’s when we’ll embed it and bring it to you fine people. The VMAs air this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and opens March 23, 2012. The MTV series Awkward. is an irreverent look at the conflict, chaos and humor that defines teenage life. As seen through the eyes of Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards), whose life changes from the moment that a simple accident becomes an epic misunderstanding that is blown way out of proportion, the half-hour episodes are smart, funny, entirely relatable and leave viewers wanting more, every week.
During an exclusive phone interview with Collider, show creator/executive producer/writer/director Lauren Iungerich talked about how Awkward. came about, the universal notion that we can’t control what happens to us but that we can control how we feel about it, speaking to real high school teenagers to keep the dialogue authentic, the challenges of telling the story in just 30 minutes a week, the increasing popularity of the show that has already lead to a Season 2 pick-up, and even gave hints as to what fans can expect from the remainder of the season, leading into the next. She also talked about MTV’s decision to go into production on another pilot that she’s developed, called Dumb Girls, about how the smartest people in life tend to be the dumbest, when it comes to love. The new MTV series Awkward. is an irreverent look at the conflict, chaos and humor that defines teenage life, as seen through the eyes of 15-year-old Jenna Hamilton, played by Ashley Rickards (One Tree Hill). Like many things in high school, a simple accident becomes an epic misunderstanding that is blown way out of proportion, leaving Jenna to deal with a new not-so-fun stigma, while at the same time managing the other daily drama that comes with being a teenager. From a secret relationship with a popular guy, to being undermined by a mean girl, and parents who just don’t get it, Jenna’s misfortune will eventually serve as the catalyst for amazing change, but not without the missteps, mishaps and humor within the struggles and experiences that everyone can relate to from their formative years.
During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Ashley Rickards talked about how much fun she’s had developing her role on the series, how viewers of Season 1 can expect some crazy drama but also some real heart, keeping things authentic and real for teenagers, how close she’s become with all of her co-stars, the crazy pranking that’s been done on set, and how exciting it is to have the support of MTV behind the new show. On the MTV supernatural drama series Teen Wolf, based on the ‘80s film starring Michael J. Fox, actor Dylan O’Brien plays Stiles Stilinski, the funny best friend of newly turned werewolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), whose loyalty makes him an inquisitive detective when it comes to his friend’s mysterious transformation. Previously known for his body of work in the comedic YouTube videos that he created, directed and starred in, the newcomer is already off to a great start, with roles in the independent feature High Road, directed by Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder Matt Walsh, and most recently in the romantic dramedy The First Time, centered on the first weekend of a fledgling romance between two high school kids.
During a recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, Dylan O’Brien talked about his accidental career as an actor, how he got cast as Stiles on Teen Wolf, the challenge of making his character funny and not annoying, what his favorite episodes of the season are, and that he hopes to get to see Stiles as a werewolf, even if it’s in a dream sequence. He also talked about how awesome the experience of making The First Time was, being thrown into the improvisational deep-end for High Road, and how he hopes to continue to work with good filmmakers on good projects, for the remainder of his acting career.
