For those who don’t know, David Fincher got his start directing commercials and music videos such as Madonna‘s “Vogue” and Nine Inch Nails‘ “Only” just to name a few. Justin Timberlake hasn’t recorded an album since 2006′s FutureSex/LoveSounds, but now he’s returned to music with The 20/20 Experience, which will be released on March 19th. The first single off the album is “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay-Z, and Fincher has directed the music video, which you can now watch online. It’s a good song, and Fincher has brought some great visuals that really helps the music pop.

Take Me Home Tonight revels in its 80s setting, but it’s not a parody. The cast has saved that for a new music video that has stars Topher Grace, Dan Fogler, Anna Faris, and Teresa Palmer dressing up and referencing as many 80s movies as they can within the span of about four minutes (there’s also a fun cameo by another Take Me Home Tonight cast member). Grace also does a Michael J. Fox impression that is worth stopping what you’re doing and watching this video now.

Daft Punk has released a short music video for their track “Derezzed” off their new album, the soundtrack for TRON: Legacy. The soundtrack went on sale today and it’s strong stuff. For the most part, the album isn’t the dance-type tracks they’re best known for but “Derezzed” has got a great beat and the music video ain’t bad either. Hit the jump to check out the music video which features a nice little cameo at the end.
TRON: Legacy stares Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges. It opens in 3D on December 17th.

A music video for Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming drama/thriller Black Swan is now available online. Beginning with the film’s fantastic trailer, followed-up by some very cool international posters, and now with this borderline insane, quick-hitting video, everything I’ve seen from the film thus far has successfully upped my anticipation for its release. Maybe it’s just me, but the club sequences in this most recent video are bringing to mind visuals from 1990′s Jacob’s Ladder. In my opinion, this is definitely a good thing.
Briefly, Black Swan stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as dancers vying for the lead in a production of Swan Lake. In addition to Portman and Kunis, Black Swan also stars Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey. The film hits U.S. theaters on December 3rd. Hit the jump to check out the music video as well as a synopsis for the film.

Legions of those who can appreciate hotness are in love with Christina Hendricks after seeing her on Mad Men. But Firefly fans (like myself) have been in love with her ever since “Our Mrs. Reynolds”. The band Broken Bells have now put her in their sci-fi music video for their single, “The Ghost Inside.” Now before you think that I’m just posting this because I think Hendricks is one of the hottest women alive, you should know that the video has good production values and the song is pretty good. Hendricks is also a damn fine actress. Also, she’s one of the hottest women alive.
Hit the jump to check out the music video. For those who need more than a five-minute fix of Hendricks, Mad Men returns for its fourth season on July 25th.

Sure, Spike Jonze is now the acclaimed Oscar-nominated director of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Where the Wild Things Are. But he built his rep directing innovative music videos for the likes of Weezer, Björk, Fatboy Slim, and Kanye West over the last two decades. Recently, a video for LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls” was posted to Youtube with the tags “spike” and “jonze”. Today, Pitchfork got confirmation from the band’s UK label that the video was indeed co-directed by Jonze and LCD frontman James Murphy.
You can check out the mostly one-take low budget video–which features dozens of men in panda suits torturing the band that they’ve seemingly kidnapped–after the jump.

Chicago rockers OK Go have developed a reputation for creating brilliantly quirky low-tech music videos. Most famously, back in 2006, they set the Internet abuzz with their “Here It Goes Again” vid, which prominently featured a tremendous choreographed treadmill dance. Yesterday, EMI released the video for “This Too Shall Pass”, the latest single from the band’s 2010 album, “Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.” Basically, it chronicles the biggest, most elaborate game of Mousetrap you’ve ever seen, accompanied by a nice little alt-rock song. It was directed by James Frost, OK Go, and Syyn Labs…and it’s good watchin’. Hit the jump to check it out. Also, if you’re interested, you can head over to YouTube for some behind-the-scenes making-of clips.

Much has been made about the upcoming Oscars battle between exes Kathyrn Bigelow and James Cameron – with their movies, The Hurt Locker and Avatar, respectively, tied with a leading nine nominations each – but as you’ll see from this crazy music video, they often had a lot of fun when they were still on speaking terms.
The clip is for the song “Reach” by an ’80s new wave band called Martini Ranch, which just happened to feature actor Bill Paxton (which was all news to me until just now), and the video was directed by Cameron himself. As you’ll see on the jump, it’s the definition of ’80s excess, and will have you yearning for the days when music videos at their best were elevated to mini-movies. In something that looks like a surreal mashup of Bigelow’s Near Dark (still her best movie in my book) and Deadwood, Paxton stars as a bank robber on the run in the Wild West, and Near Dark stars Adrian Pasdar and Lance Henriksen make appearances, as does Judge Reinhold. Best of all, however, is that Bigelow herself leads an all-female posse of bounty hunters on his trail, and to be as piggish as possible, just looks sensationally hot doing it.
To tell you any more would just spoil the fun, so hit the jump for the video.

In the past couple of days, two highly-respected directors have taken a moment away from feature filmmaking and turned their attention to music videos, which are basically the mainstream form of short films. The music video for Mia Doi Todd’s “Open Your Heart” is unmistakably Gondry by using special effects with no technology or visual trickery. It’s just good, old-fashioned choreography, costuming, and editing. Like most of Gondry’s work, the video has that nice, do-it-yourself charm that some may brush off as quirk but only if they don’t understand the effort and craft that goes into making that “quirk”.
But then there’s a music promo from David Lynch for a young artist named Ariana Delawari. Lynch doesn’t really do music videos although that’s not really an accurate representation of this work. This is more of a group of tiny music videos where each video is based on a brief excerpt from of each of Delwari’s songs. Don’t expect Gondry’s production values, but it is neat to see Lynch readjust his style for each song. And while I’ll be the first to admit my taste in music is non-existent, I really enjoyed Delwari’s tunes and it makes me want to pick up her album, Lion of Panjshir.
You can check out Gondry’s music video and Lynch’s music promo after the jump.

While we rarely cover music videos, when a well known director is making one with a big star in cosplay, we’ll sometimes make exceptions. So when I saw a few images of Kirsten Dunst in Tokyo’s Akihabara shopping district in a sailor-suit costume and a blue wig, I figured it was worth a short write-up. Anyway, the video being shot is being directed by McG (“Terminator Salvation”), who has expressed his love for “Sailor Moon” in the past. According to reports, the video is going to be displayed at the Tate Modern in London later this year. No other info is known yet. For a few images of Kirsten Dunst in costume, click the jump:

Before Heath Ledger died, he planned on directing the music video for “King Rat” by Modest Mouse. According to MySpace, “the video was fully conceived down to the last detail but unfinished when Heath passed away in January of 2008. In the interest of fully realizing Heath’s final work as a visual artist, THE MASSES (a film and music company which Heath was a partner in) finished the video in his honor, with the support and advocacy of Isaac Brock.”
While things might have changed as Heath directed the piece, if you’re curious what his initial thoughts were and how the video came together, it’s after the jump, along with some info on the subject matter:
