Listen to the First Full INTO THE WOODS Song Featuring Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella

by     Posted 18 days ago

We’ve got some promotional material that teases the musical numbers in Into the Woods, but how about hearing an entire song from the upcoming Rob Marshall-directed film?  Disney just released the full version of “Steps of the Palace” sung by Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella and it’s pretty incredible.  How was it not widely known that Kendrick was a stellar singer until Pitch Perfect?  Perhaps that “Time After Time” scene in Up in the Air just really threw us all off.

Hit the jump to check out what Kendrick is really capable of in our very first full Into the Woods song.  The movie arrives in theaters on December 25th and also stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Chris Pine, Lucy Punch, Christine Baranski, Tracy Ullman, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, Tammy Blanchard, Billy Magnussen, Mackenzie Mauzy and Johnny Depp.

For those who don’t know, David Fincher got his start directing commercials and music videos such as Madonna‘s “Vogue” and Nine Inch Nails‘ “Only” just to name a few.  Justin Timberlake hasn’t recorded an album since 2006′s FutureSex/LoveSounds, but now he’s returned to music with The 20/20 Experience, which will be released on March 19th.  The first single off the album is “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay-Z, and Fincher has directed the music video, which you can now watch online.  It’s a good song, and Fincher has brought some great visuals that really helps the music pop.

Listen to Scrapped DJANGO UNCHAINED Track, “Wiseman” by Frank Ocean

by     Posted 1 year, 360 days ago

The soundtrack for Django Unchained is one of my favorite of the year, and I highly recommend picking it up.  There’s a great blend of hip-hop, blues, and Spaghetti western-tunes.  One track that didn’t make the final was Frank Ocean‘s “Wiseman”.  Director Quentin Tarantino told Pitchfork [via THR], “I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that’s not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn’t want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they’ll realize it then.”

Ocean has decided to unleash it on the public, and you can click here to listen to it.  The R&B artist noted on his Tumblr, “django was ill without it.”

Album Art and Tracklisting Revealed for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Soundtrack

by     Posted 2 years, 50 days ago

Howard Shore delivered three amazing albums for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I adore the music we’ve heard in the trailers thus far.  If there’s any aspect of The Hobbit I have completely confidence, it’s in Shore’s score.  Today, the album art and tracklisting for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was announced along with a special edition version that will contain four more tracks.  The artwork is nice (the special edition will fit in nicely with the Lord of the Rings special edition albums), but the tracklistings give us an idea of where in the story the first movie will end, so if you want to stay away from spoilers, consider yourself warned.

Hit the jump to check out the album art and tracklisting.  The soundtrack will arrive on December 11th.  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens December 14th.

Check Out This Epic Metal Version of the Theme from GAME OF THRONES

by     Posted 3 years, 224 days ago

As if the opening credits for HBO’s spectacular fantasy series Game of Thrones weren’t cool enough, some dedicated fan has crafted an awesome metal version of the show’s opening theme and it’s now been set over the actual credits themselves. The result is an epic rock opening to a series that could only be made better by the presence of electric guitar running through its core. Of course, there’s not much to complain about when it comes to Game of Thrones (especially since they’ve already got a second season ordered), so this is just icing on an already tasty cake. Check out the killer metal Game of Thrones theme after the jump.

Teaser Trailer for Disney XD Animated Series TRON: UPRISING; TRON: LEGACY Score to Get Remix

by     Posted 3 years, 294 days ago

After TRON: Legacy landed with a thud, I’ve found it difficult to care about where the story goes from here.  However, Disney still believes in their black-and-neon franchise and they’re moving forward with the new animated series TRON: Uprising.  The series will air on Disney XD in summer 2012 and cover the events between the original TRON and Legacy.  A teaser trailer for the series has gone online and if you loved TRON: Legacy, then you’ll probably love this too.  It has light cycles and stuff.

More promising is an upcoming remix of TRON: Legacy‘s outstanding score.  Pitchfork reports that Disney will release Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D on April 5th and it will feature M83, Photek, Moby, Com Truise, and others remixing Daft Punk’s score.  The remix soundtrack is available to buy in various special editions on the score’s official website.  Hit the jump to check out the TRON: Uprising trailer and the track list for Tron: Legacy R3CONFIGUR3D.

David Lynch Releases First Electronic Single “Good Day Today” on iTunes

by     Posted 4 years, 23 days ago

Director David Lynch (Blue Velvet) has released his first original electronic single “Good Day Today”, backed with the narcotic blues track “I Know”, on iTunes.  Lynch has signed the track to UK indie label Sunday Best Recordings.  Sunday Best has commissioned a set of remixes of “Good Day Today” set for release in January.

While this is Lynch’s first original electronic single, the legendary filmmaker has been creating music for decades.  He composed bits of music for Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Mulholland Drive, and Rabbits.  He also produced and wrote lyrics for Julee Cruise’s first two albums, “Floating Into the Night” and “The Voice of Love”.  Lynch recently collaborated on the album “Dark Knight of the Soul” with Sparklehouse and Danger Mouse.  Click here to go buy “Good Day Today” on iTunes and hit the jump for the full press release.

Behind-the-Scenes Look/Listen at the Music of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 1

by     Posted 4 years, 54 days ago

The Harry Potter films have had a wonderful diversity of composers throughout the series.  The franchise kicked off with John Williams (and now it’s hard to imagine Harry Potter without “Hedwig’s Theme”), and moved on to Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and now acclaimed composer Alexandre Desplat.  Desplat’s diverse body of work includes the scores for Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Syriana, New Moon, and plenty more.  He was recently named “Composer of the Year” at the 10th Annual World Soundtrack Awards.  I’m excited to hear where he takes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.

Hit the jump for a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the score for the film.  The soundtrack will be available to purchase on November 16th as a standard or limited edition.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 opens November 19th.

Trent Reznor Releases Five Songs from THE SOCIAL NETWORK For Free; Full Tracklist Revealed

by     Posted 4 years, 96 days ago

I will dub 2010 the year of the soundtrack. This summer started strong with Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack, with a number of songs written by Beck. Later this year, Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Legacy will release and Daft Punk is scoring the entire film.  Then we have Trent Reznor scoring David Fincher’s The Social Network, which pushed things to the breaking point. I don’t often buy soundtracks, but having this caliber of mainstream talent (by two artists I adore) behind three of my most anticipated films of this year leaves me no choice. Adding to the anticipation is the fact that Reznor, who co-wrote and produced the soundtrack for the film with Atticus Ross, is releasing five of the tracks for free, right now. Join me after the jump for full details, including a message from Reznor himself and the entire tracklist.

Later this year, DC is releasing an album including almost every DC movie, cartoon, and TV show theme song ever.  21 of the 31 tracks have never been released before, including Max Fleischer’s 1941 Superman theme, so if you’re a DC fan you’ll probably want this album.  Some of the other tracks include unreleased music from Smallville, Justice League and Superfriends, and the CD will also include re-mastered versions of the Lois & Clark theme along with 7 different Batman themes.  The album doesn’t include every single DC theme ever (as Topless Robot points out, the new Teen Titans theme is omitted) but it will have the vast majority of them.  Hit the jump for a full track listing.

Complete SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD Soundtrack and Score Streaming Online

by     Posted 4 years, 134 days ago

If you can’t wait to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but don’t want to be spoiled, then may I suggest giving the soundtrack and the score a listen?  I suppose if you’re the most sensitive spoiler-wimp on the planet you won’t even want to listen to the film’s amazing music.  But this article isn’t for you.  It’s for all the awesome people who can enjoy these tunes right now and then re-experience them when they hear them in the context of the movie.

I’m probably going to buy the score and the soundtrack later today, but right now I’m enjoying it in all its streaming goodness over at Spinner [via Vulture].  Scott Pilgrim vs. The World opens this Friday.

Trent Reznor Scoring David Fincher’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK

by     Posted 4 years, 174 days ago

File this one under “I didn’t see that coming.” Via an update on the Nine Inch Nails website, industrial rock icon Trent Reznor claims that he is in the final stages of scoring David Fincher’s Facebook origin story The Social Network. According to Reznor, things are coming together quite nicely (what else is he supposed to say?) and credits Fincher for being instrumental in the process saying, “the level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.”

About a week ago we brought you the dialogue-heavy teaser trailer which, while subtle, certainly set a somewhat darker tone than Farmville-addicts may have expected. With Reznor writing the score, that tone seems to be confirmed. For more info on The Social Network, hit the jump to see what else Reznor, who has obviously seen the film, has to say about it.

Christina Hendricks Returns to Sci-Fi with Music Video for “The Ghost Inside”

by     Posted 4 years, 202 days ago

Legions of those who can appreciate hotness are in love with Christina Hendricks after seeing her on Mad Men. But Firefly fans (like myself) have been in love with her ever since “Our Mrs. Reynolds”.  The band Broken Bells have now put her in their sci-fi music video for their single, “The Ghost Inside.”  Now before you think that I’m just posting this because I think Hendricks is one of the hottest women alive, you should know that the video has good production values and the song is pretty good. Hendricks is also a damn fine actress.  Also, she’s one of the hottest women alive.

Hit the jump to check out the music video.  For those who need more than a five-minute fix of Hendricks, Mad Men returns for its fourth season on July 25th.
