natalie-dormer-the-hunger-games-mockingjay-part-1-interview

Opening this weekend is director Francis Lawrence’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.  In the next installment, we find Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) at the forefront of the rebellion in District 13 while Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Johanna (Jena Malone) are held captive in the Capitol.  Unlike the last two films which focused on surviving the games, Mockingjay – Part 1 is about the rebellion spreading throughout Panem and the way both sides play the media to gain the upper hand.  It’s an extremely well done movie and fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.  Joining the cast are Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Boggs (Mahershala Ali), Pollux (Elden Henson), Messalla (Evan Ross), and Castor (Wes Chatham) alongside Liam HemsworthWoody HarrelsonJulianne MoorePhilip Seymour Hoffman,Elizabeth BanksSam Claflin, and Donald Sutherland.

A few days ago in New York City I landed an exclusive interview with Natalie Dormer.  The actress plays the character of Cressida, a rebel who uses her camera as a weapon in the propaganda fight against the Capitol.  During our interview, Dormer talked about landing the role, her audition process, the haircut and tattoo, if she was a fan of the series before she signed on, the way she prepares for a role, going to Comic-Con for the first time, if she’s interested in doing a Marvel or DC superhero movie, Game of Thrones, how she stopped reading the parts of the script that weren’t hers so she could watch season 5 as a fan, and a lot more.  Hit the jump for what she had to say.

Watch THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 NYC Press Conference with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Natalie Dormer, and More

the hunger games mockingjay press conference NYC

Yesterday in New York City, I got to attend The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 press conference with Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Julianne Moore (President Coin), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen), Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), Mahershala Ali(Boggs), Natalie Dormer (Cressida), Donald Sutherland (President Snow), director Francis Lawrence, and producer Nina Jacobson.  While I typically find press conferences with this many people less than an ideal way to ask questions about a movie, I’ll admit the event turned out great.  That’s mostly because of Jennifer Lawrence.  While Lawrence’s massive success could have transformed her easy going persona into someone difficult to work with, as you watch the press conference you’ll see someone who is still amazed and thankful for her success, and she always has a fun answer.

During the press conference everyone is asked and answers questions about the making of the movie, challenging scenes, how they wish they were more like their characters, what it’s like losing their anonymity, and so much more.  If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games, you’ll definitely want to watch this.  The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens next weekend.  Look for some exclusive interviews on the site later this week.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Clip Introduces Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire made room for new players like Sam Claflin’s Finnick Odair, Jena Malone’s Johanna Mason and Jeffrey Wright’s Beetee, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 introduces far more new main characters, a number of which will likely have a significant presence in the final two films.  A brand new clip from the movie just dropped and it offers a brief introduction to Katniss’ camera team.  As the Mockingjay, it’s Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) responsibility to inspire the nation to fight back via propos – interviews, messages or wartime footage featuring Katniss supporting the rebel war effort – and the folks behind those videos are franchise newcomers Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Castor (Wes Chatham), Pollux (Elden Henson) and Messalla (Evan Ross).

You can catch them as well as Mahershala Ali as Boggs, Katniss’ personal bodyguard, in the latest The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 clip after the jump.  The film hits theaters on November 21st and also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and Donald Sutherland.

Cast Signs on for GAME OF THRONES Season 7 with Big Raises

by     Posted 27 days ago

game-of-thrones-season-7-cast-raises

If HBO decides to move forward with Game of Thrones Season 7 (spoiler alert: they will), the cast is in for a significant pay increase.  While the pay cable network previously picked the show up for Season 5 and Season 6 at the same time, they faced a potential road bump when it came to a potential seventh season of the incredibly popular series.  When actors initially sign contracts for a TV series, their options normally span multiple seasons that keep them obligated to appear for years to come—unless they get killed off, of course.  It turns out the Game of Thrones cast contracts went up through Season 6, but with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently revealing that their game plan is to conclude the show with Season 7 (or maybe Season 8), a renegotiation process was necessary to ensure the cast will be intact for the end game.

And so the news comes today that, while HBO hasn’t officially ordered a seventh season of Game of Thrones just yet, they have completed renegotiations with the actors’ contracts to include an option for Season 7 with a big pay increase to boot.  More after the jump.

We have some casting news for you today.  First up, Sean Bean has signed on to Ridley Scott‘s The Martian.  Scripted by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) based on an e-book by Andy Weir, Matt Damon stars as an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars and must figure out how to survive long enough for NASA to rescue him.  According to THR, Bean will play a NASA flight director.  It seems like a safe job, but I’m sure Bean’s character will find some way to die.  He’ll probably choke on a donut or something.  The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Michael Pena and Kristen WiigThe Martian opens November 25, 2015.  Bean currently stars on the TNT series Legends and will next be seen in Jupiter Ascending and Pixels.

Jennifer Lawrence Goes to War in New THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Images

Lionsgate has unveiled a collection of new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 images from the first half of director Francis Lawrence’s conclusion to the franchise.  As seen in the full-length trailer, the story finds Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss on the frontlines of an all-out war between the rebels of District 13 and the Capitol.  These new images showcase Katniss’ battle-readiness, but the highlight of Mockingay – Part 1 for me continues to be Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer’s Cressida.  She looks absolutely badass in the role, and after hearing Dormer’s thoughts on women in the movie industry at the “Women Who Kick Ass” panel at this year’s Comic-Con, I’m essentially ready to vote her into office.

The Rebels Take Flight in New THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Posters

For some reason I keep forgetting that there’s a new Hunger Games movie coming this year.  Catching Fire surprised the hell out of me and was my favorite studio tentpole of last year, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how Francis Lawrence tackles the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy (well the first half of the final book, technically).  A peek into what’s in store has surfaced today by way of a new collection of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 posters that introduce the leaders of the rebellion.  There’s Liam Hemsworth’s Gale, of course, but I’m really excited to see Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer’s portrayal of Cressida; Dormer’s look for the character is positively fantastic.  And yes, that’s Elden Henson aka Fulton from The Mighty Ducks as Pollux.

Hit the jump to take a look at the Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 posters, which also feature Evan Ross as Messalla, Mahershala Ali as Boggs, and Wes Chatham as Castor.  The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, and Donald SutherlandThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens in theaters on November 21st.

The fourth season premiere of HBO’s massively popular drama series Game of Thrones is just a few short days away, and in anticipation of the event, the network has unveiled a new gallery of images teasing the new season.  These 10 episodes will cover roughly the second half of the third book in George R.R. Martin’s series, A Storm of Swords, and as we can see in these images, many characters will find themselves in precarious situations.  Most notably, this new image gallery gives us a close look at Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragons, which have grown considerably since we last saw them.

New Trailer for GAME OF THRONES Season 4

game-of-thrones-season-4-final-poster-slice

HBO has released yet another trailer for the fourth season of Game of Thrones.  Watching this trailer, it’s important to remember that there are still only ten episodes, and we’ve got quite a lot of storylines on our hands.  At some point, we may want to be grateful for some character deaths if only to unburden the plot.  Of course, I say that now and then all the characters I like will probably be slaughtered.  So much for the bright side.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The show stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, Aiden Turner, Iain Glen, Rose Leslie, Carice Van Houten, Alfie Allen, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Isaac Hempstead Wright.  New cast this season include Pedro Pascal, Michiel Huisman, and Indira VarmaGame of Thrones returns on April 6th at 9pm on HBO.

New Posters for GAME OF THRONES Season 4 Remind Us “All Men Must Die”

by     Posted 272 days ago

game-of-thrones-season-4-final-poster-slice

Like the recent trailer, a batch of new posters for the fourth season of Game of Thrones seems bent on preparing us for an onslaught of characters deaths.  The tagline “All Men Must Die” is translation of “Valar morghulis”, which is the High Valyrian taught to Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) by Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) in season two.  The previous set of posters focused on the Lanisters, and now the rest of the cast is getting their close-ups.  If you’re like me and haven’t read the books, how many of these poor sods are going to make it to season five.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The show also stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Charles Dance, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aiden Turner, Iain Glen, Rose Leslie, Carice Van Houten, Alfie Allen, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Isaac Hempstead Wright.  New cast this season include Pedro Pascal, Michiel Huisman and Indira Varma. Game of Thrones returns on April 6th at 9pm on HBO.

New Clip from THE COUNSELOR Starring Michael Fassbender and Natalie Dormer

by     Posted 1 year, 42 days ago

the-counselor-images-slice

20th Century Fox has released a new clip from Ridley Scott’s The Counselor.  The script by Cormac McCarthy (author of The Road and No Country for Old Men) centers on an attorney (Michael Fassbender) who teams with Reiner (Javier Bardem) to sell $20 million worth of cocaine.  In the clip, Fassbender’s character has a conversation with a sale clerk (Natalie Dormer) about purchasing women’s undergarments.  It’s an incredibly odd scene not because of the content, but because of Scott’s direction.  The tone of the scene is almost sinister, and the way it ends almost makes me think there’s an error in the player.  The dialogue keeps going but the character’s lips stop moving, so it looks like they have a telepathic bond.  It gets stranger from there.

Hit the jump to check out the clip.  The film also stars Brad Pitt, Dean Norris, Rosie Perez, John Leguizamo, and Goran VisnjicThe Counselor opens October 25th. [Update: The clip is technically "viral footage" whatever that means.]
