Warner Bros. has released the first Mad Max: Fury Road trailer for director George Miller’s highly anticipated fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise.  The post-apocalyptic actioner sees Tom Hardy filling the role of Max, a man seeking peace following the loss of his wife and child, while Charlize Theron plays Furiosa, a woman who aims to survive by trekking across the desert back to her homeland.  You’ll have to watch this trailer a few times, not to glean any plot details but just to catch bits and pieces of the insanity on display.  It’s certainly in line with the madness of the previous films, though it remains to be seen whether or not Hardy can fill Mel Gibson’s spiked boots because he’s incapacitated for the most part of this first look.  Still, there’s lots to be excited for – car crashes, insane leather fetishes, slavers, open-desert high-speed chases, two-headed geckos, etc – especially after such a long delay.

New MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Images Reveal Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and a Very White Nicholas Hoult

Earlier today, we got our first official look at director George Miller’s long-awaited follow-up Mad Max: Fury Road.  It was a tame EW cover featuring the film’s leads, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, but now a batch of new images has surfaced, and they confirm that this movie is going to be absolutely nuts.  Nicholas Hoult is nearly unrecognizable as the bald and makeup-clad Nux, while the dystopian landscape is filled out with plenty of dangerous vehicles and sketchy characters.  Miller describes the film as one long chase sequence that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes, and based on these first-look images, the ride is going to be anything but dull.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Review

x-men-days-of-future-past-review

As I’ve re-watched all of the X-Men movies over the past week, it’s been a little difficult to nail down a common theme, especially since two of them are spin-offs.  Ignoring the Wolverine movies, the plots are similar: mutants-vs-humans mixed with mutants-vs-mutants with an emphasis on how to deal with persecution.  Xavier always wants peace, but from Magneto’s perspective, he’s tried assimilation (X-Men), annihilation (X2), mobilization (X-Men: The Last Stand), and retribution (X-Men: First Class).  But thus far we’ve only seen a nebulous notion of “Peace Is Good” from Professor X.  X-Men: Days of Future Past brings substance to Xavier’s beliefs and brings a new characteristic to the series: salvation.  Although this approach mostly removes the ensemble aspect I’ve enjoyed in these movies, the latest X-Men has the most admirable values thus far.  And while the action, pacing, and visuals aren’t quite as sharp as a couple of the other movies, director Bryan Singer has still managed to reclaim the series’ past, present, and future.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past opening next weekend, 20th Century Fox has provided us with five movie clips and nine minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film.  If you’ve ever wanted to see what it’s like on set, you’ll really enjoy the clips of Bryan Singer directing the cast and seeing your favorite actors in between takes.  As most of you know, Days of Future Past finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.   The film also takes place in the future, so we’re going to see the original X-Men cast and what will happen if Wolverine fails.  I caught a screening last week and am very happy to report the film is great.  It’s loaded with awesome character moments and tons of mutant action.  You’re all going to love it.

20th Century Fox has released twenty-three new images of X-Men: Days of Future Past character art.  The story finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  This art use the same images as the ones from the Empire Magazine covers we saw a few months back.  The only thing that’s different is that the backgrounds are different and the Empire text is gone.  There were twenty-five posters for Empire; the missing two from this set: director Bryan Singer (no surprise) and Rogue (slight surprise), although it looks like she probably has a brief cameo in the finale cut.

20th Century Fox has released a final X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer for director Bryan Singer’s superhero “inbetweenquel,” and man does it have everything you could ask for in a mutant-mashup movie.  We get way more setup – along with a look at just how extensive and vital a role Wolverine plays in the plot – with plenty of superpowers on display, promising an action-packed payoff.  The follow-up finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) and the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  The trailer does a great job at summing up the premise, which highlights the caper aspect of the plot.  Its only downside is the poor choice of music; even Quicksilver looks good here!

Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg Talk X-MEN: APOCALYPSE; Will DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Alter the Timeline?

x-men-apocalypse-slice

X-Men: Days of Future Past is still over a month away, but there’s no time to waste!  We already have to start talking about the sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse, even though it doesn’t come out for over two years!  Director Bryan Singer and co-producer/co-writer Simon Kinberg spoke to EW about their plans for the film, and revealed that they will be taking elements from the 90s comic book series, Age of Apocalypse, but won’t strictly adhere to the alternate universe aspect of the story.  Kinberg explains that Apocalypse “won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with.”  Does that mean the time-travel in Days of Future Past might alter our reality to suit the needs of the new story, but not so drastically as to make the world unrecognizable?  Kinberg also goes on to say that “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”  Disaster imagery?  In a superhero movie?  Ridiculous.  People would never go for that.

Fox has released eight new posters for X-Men: Days of Future Past. While not quite as bad as the most recent poster, these are still pretty awful.  If they’re not using the tired orange/blue color scheme, then the composition is haphazard, the titling is strange (I know Jackman’s name gets top billing, but it’s still weird to see it under Ian McKellen’s face), or the poster is just outright bizarre.  The strangest one is young Xavier reaching out to touch Storm’s face.

New Images from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Provide another Look at Beast and Quicksilver

x-men-days-of-future-past-evan-peters

On our recent “Most-Anticipated” article, X-Men: Days of Future Past landed on all three lists.  While I understand why some people are skeptical, I think all of the right elements are in place for a great superhero movie.  That’s why I don’t mind reporting on X-Men stories (even when it’s those blasted trailer teasers).  Today, two new images from the movie along with a magazine cover have been released online.  The magazine cover (for Premiere) is kind of silly since it looks like Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is about to stab young Xavier (James McAvoy) in the neck.  But it’s not even half as silly as Quicksilver’s (Evan Peters) costume.  I can’t get over how awful that thing looks.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  X-Men: Days of Future Past also stars Michael Fassbender, Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Lucas Till, Omar Sy, Adan Canto, Daniel Cudmore, and Bingbing FanX-Men: Days of Future Past opens in 2D and 3D on May 23rd.

New Trailer and Poster for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Starring Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer and poster for director Bryan Singer’s highly anticipated superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. This trailer is terrific.  It shows the darker tone that Signer mentioned, and the character drama looks as strong as the action scenes.  As for this new poster, it’s just awful.  If you’re going t o pay millions of dollars for a marketing campaign, perhaps it’s best to find a person who understands composition rather than making it look like Professor X farted an explosion.
