First MCFARLAND, USA Trailer and Images: Kevin Costner Leads Disney’s Latest Inspirational Sports Drama

Disney has released the first McFarland, USA trailer for Disney’s upcoming inspirational sports drama.  Inspired by a true story, the film stars Kevin Costner as cross-country running coach who takes a position at a predominantly Latino high school in California’s Central Valley, where he turns an underdog team of outsiders into a formidable force in the region’s races.  The trailer has all the hallmark’s that we’ve come to expect from Disney’s brand of inspirational dramas, right down to the crossing of cultural barriers and use of an uplifting pop song (in this case, U2‘s “Where the Streets Have No Name”).  This movie won’t surprise anyone, but it looks to be a pretty interesting story that is hopefully told in a compelling manner by director Niki Caro.

Check out the first McFarland, USA trailer after the jump, along with some new images.  The film also stars Maria Bello, Morgan SaylorMartha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Johnny Ortiz, Carlos Pratts, Ramiro Rodriguez, Danny Mora, Valente Rodriguez, Vanessa Martinez, and Chris EllisMcFarland, USA opens in theaters on February 20, 2015.

Niki Caro to Write/Direct Maria Callas Biopic CALLAS; Eva Green May Star

by     Posted 3 years, 87 days ago

Eva Green was first tapped as a candidate to renowned opera singer Maria Callas in the biopic Callas in July 2010.  When we checked in with Green earlier this year, no deal was in place, but the part was still on her mind:

“They’re writing the script. That’s a scary role, so we’ll see.”

Now, thanks to THR, we know who “they” are.  Niki Caro (Whale Rider) will co-write the script with Alfonso Signorini based on Signorini’s book Too Proud, Too Fragile.  Caro will also direct, and hopefully her skilled hand behind the camera will reassure Green to sign on.  Hit the jump for background on Callas and clips of the soprano at work.
