Disney has released the first McFarland, USA trailer for Disney’s upcoming inspirational sports drama. Inspired by a true story, the film stars Kevin Costner as cross-country running coach who takes a position at a predominantly Latino high school in California’s Central Valley, where he turns an underdog team of outsiders into a formidable force in the region’s races. The trailer has all the hallmark’s that we’ve come to expect from Disney’s brand of inspirational dramas, right down to the crossing of cultural barriers and use of an uplifting pop song (in this case, U2‘s “Where the Streets Have No Name”). This movie won’t surprise anyone, but it looks to be a pretty interesting story that is hopefully told in a compelling manner by director Niki Caro.
