The techno-speak in Guillermo del Toro's giant robot movie Pacific Rim might take a bit of getting used to, so the director has put together this new featurette that explains some of the terms. Ever wanted to know why it takes two people to pilot a Jaeger? Want to know what a "neural handshake" is or what "drift space" means? Check out the new video to find out!

The new featurette, introduced by del Toro, features Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Robert Kazinsky and Max Martini. Hit the jump to watch it. Pacific Rim opens July 12th.

Check out the new featurette below (via IGN):

Here’s the official synopsis for Pacific Rim:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim feels so far away, and that's because it kind of is. We're a little under two months until the movie's release, and there are plenty of blockbusters before Guillermo Del Toro's monsters-vs-robots picture hits the big screen. But Warner Bros. is already making sure that TV audiences are aware of the flick, and the first TV spot has been released. There's some new footage in here, but every thing I've seen just leaves me with the same thought: I need to see this on a movie screen.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spot. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

As someone whose only firsthand experience with the Star Trek franchise comes by virtue of J.J. Abrams' two Trek films, I know I'm in over my head when the topic presents itself. When you mention Trek, you're referencing (either directly or indirectly) a rich legacy filled with peaks and valleys, genre-defining characters and moments, and an international fanbase that rivals any of pop-culture's most enduring titles. And yet here I am, with two films under my belt (both of which I enjoyed), talking about it. Obviously, I have nothing at stake with regards to Star Trek Into Darkness. Whether you like it or dislike it is of no consequence to me. My only aim today is to extend a humble word of caution to the Trek fans who have years of equity built-up in their beloved franchise: be careful not to dismiss or begrudge it solely because it's trying to appeal to the largest possible audience. Abrams' Trek films aren't above reproach, but they also aren't void of redeeming qualities. Try to at least acknowledge some of those qualities when tearing into them or risk coming off as someone whose real issue is that a bunch of people now enjoy this thing that you once considered yourself unique for liking.
All preachiness aside, this week's Top 5 includes several interviews from Star Trek Into Darkness, rumors surrounding Christopher Nolan being approached to direct James Bond 24, the first trailers for Marvel's new ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a new trailer for ...

Another trailer has been released for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. The story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. The latest trailer explains how the Jaegers work, but the main focus is the scale of the kaiji-vs-jaeger battles. Nothing is really spoiled here, and watching this in a YouTube player is almost a disservice to the size of the action. I still can't wait to see this flick up on the big screen.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim is rapidly becoming my most-anticipated film of the year, and if their marketing scheme continues to be this enticing, I don't see that changing any time soon. Not only do we have new character posters of stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi to share with you today, but we have the first look at sample pages from the graphic novel, Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, which was written by screenwriter Travis Beacham. If that weren't enough, Warner Bros. has provided fans with an online Jaeger designer for use in the upcoming training sessions at the film's viral website. You can design up to four Jaegers and save/share your creation in place of the Jaegers seen in the official artwork. I don't often geek out, but when I do, it's over Pacific Rim! Hit the jump to check it all out.

First up, here are the new character posters for Pacific Rim via the film's Facebook page:

Also, here's the synopsis for Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero:
Hitting stores June 5, PACIFIC RIM: TALES FROM YEAR ZERO serves as a prequel to the highly-anticipated motion picture -- Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures Pacific Rim. Chronicling the very first time Earth is menaced by incredible monsters known as Kaiju, these inhuman beasts rise from the ocean depths and threaten to extinguish all mankind! Witness the race to develop massive robot fighting ...

If you wanted to know more background information on two highly-anticipated sci-fi films - Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim and Gavin Hood's Ender's Game - you're in luck! Each movie has just launched a viral website which are sure to be chock full of extras in the coming months. With Pacific Rim opening in just a couple of months and Ender's Game not bowing until the fall, you can expect a lot more from the former in the meantime.

Pacific Rim, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day, opens July 12th. Ender's Game, starring Asa Butterfield, Abigail Breslin, Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley, opens November 1st. Hit the jump for more from both movies.

First up from Legendary Entertainment comes word of the Pacific Rim website. Most of it is on lockdown at the moment, but you can take a personality test and sign up for Jaeger Academy. Other areas that remain off limits until future updates include a Crisis Map, Training Academy and the Pan Pacific Defense Corps' headquarters, The Shatterdome. You can also watch the trailer for the film there if you haven't seen it already. Not much else to see at the moment so be sure to keep an eye on this site over the coming weeks.

As for Ender's Game, the new viral site is heavy on propaganda and background information on the fictional world's International Fleet (via Ender's Ansible). There are sections devoted to the Fleet's mission statement, Leader Recruitment, a note on training simulations ...

Marvel makes it look easy. That's what kept running through my head while watching Iron Man 3 Thursday night. Pumping out one solid standalone film after another with the overall goal of creating a whole that is equally, if not more, entertaining than its formidable parts can't be that easy. And yet, Marvel makes it seem that way. In a medium outside of their native reach no less. Granted, Iron Man 3 isn't without its flaws. But it doesn't have to be. It succeeds on the exact level it's meant to: in moving both the individual character and universal stories ahead in an entertaining and logical way. If "Marvel makes it looks easy" was my primary takeaway from IM3, "DC has their work cut out for them" isn't far behind.
But enough Marvel love for one opening paragraph. In this week's Top 5 we've got Iron Man 3 interviews with director Shane Black and more, a video blog review for Star Trek Into Darkness, the Pacific Rim trailer from WonderCon, Fox's courting of Michael B. Jordan the the role of Human Torch in its upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and the new trailer for Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx's White House Down. A brief recap and link to each is a "Continue Reading" click away.
1. IRON MAN 3 Interviews with Shane Black and More

I briefly share my thoughts on the pic in the opening paragraph and while there's definitely more to talk about (including one of the biggest surprise turns I can remember in ...

If you thought the most recent banner and theatrical poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim were epic-looking, hold on to your hats, folks. Warner Bros. has unveiled a “super banner” for the film, and it gives a bird’s eye view of the massive level of size and destruction of the film’s Kaiju and Jaegers. For those unfamiliar, the film’s story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This “super banner” will supposedly go up in theaters across the country, and I can’t wait to get a look at it up close.

Hit the jump to take a look at the super banner in full. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

Pacific Rim owes a great debt to Japan. Director Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film draws from the country's monster movies and manga, and in a new Japanese trailer, del Toro acknowledges these influences. Pacific Rim doesn't look like a homage as much as it appears to simply be the loving offspring of some of Japan's most beloved entertainment. There's also some new footage lurking about in the trailer, so that's worth checking out as well.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

New posters for two of this summer’s most anticipated films have arrived online. First up, hot on the heels of yesterday’s excellent banner comes a new poster for Guillermo del Toro’s Warner Bros. tentpole Pacific Rim. The film’s story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This new poster shows a host of Jaegers assembling either for battle or one epic pool party. The film opens in 3D on July 12th.

Additionally, a couple of new character posters for Todd Phillips’ trilogy closing The Hangover Part III features the return of Heather Graham’s stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold Jade and her baby “Carlos,” as well as John Goodman’s villainous character. If you missed any coverage from our set visit, you can get caught up on interviews with Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong, Zach Galifianakis, Phillips and screenwriter Craig Mazin at the corresponding links. The film opens on May 24th. Hit the jump to check out all three posters.

Director Guillermo del Toro’s “monsters vs. robots” movie Pacific Rim looks incredible. It’s easy to get excited about films based on meticulously crafted marketing materials, but yesterday’s WonderCon trailer for the film showed exactly what happens when a studio like Warner Bros. gives a visionary filmmaker like Del Toro a significant budget and says “go play.” If that excellent WonderCon trailer somehow didn’t sell you on just how massive the world of Pacific Rim is, today’s new banner does a swell job of reminding us that the film demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

Hit the jump to get a look at the new banner. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim had a presentation at this year's WonderCon, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. They showed off plenty of new footage in a new trailer for the upcoming giant-monsters-vs-giant-robots flick, and now that trailer has landed online. As Charlie Day's character says, it's "2,500 tons of awesome." The new trailer provides a lot more info on the story, but it's the visuals that will really blow people away. I felt bad watching it on my computer monitor because this is a movie that clearly demands to be seen in theaters.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Clifton Collins Jr., Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

Earlier today we saw a behind-the-scenes image from Legendary and Warner Bros.’ Godzilla reboot that teased some of the destruction that will be on display in that film, but the two studios have another destruction-filled tentpole heading our way this summer: Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. A new poster for the pic has been unveiled, and it teases the epic scale of the film’s Jaegars, which are massive robots that humanity built in order to combat monsters (known as Kaiju) that emerged from the sea. This poster also boasts the film’s rather apt tagline, “Go Big or Go Extinct.” Get here fast, July.

Hit the jump to check out the new poster. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, and Clifton Collins Jr. Pacific Rim opens in 3D on July 12th.

A couple of debut TV spots have made their way online. First up, Warner Bros. has released the first international TV spot for director Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming “robots vs. monsters” movie Pacific Rim. The story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This TV spot does a great job of selling the epic nature of the story, and I really can’t wait to see this thing on the biggest screen possible. The film opens in 2D and 3D on July 12th.

Additionally, Sony has released a TV spot for director M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi film After Earth. The film stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith as a father and son who crash land on a post-apocalyptic Earth, and it’s up to the son to fight for survival when the father is seriously injured. There are a couple of shots of new footage here, including a look at a rather ginormous creature. The film opens on June 7th. Hit the jump to check out both TV spots.

Here’s the official synopsis for Pacific Rim:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds ...

From time to time I like to use the opening paragraph to discuss my latest screenprint investments and/or dream items. This week I'm playing a similar note as I recently picked up Olly Moss' "Batman's Rogues Gallery" set on eBay for very close to what the timed edition went for originally. Those of you who follow posters and prints know how redeeming it can be to finally get an item you originally missed out on without having to pay exponentially more than its original asking price. Now, if only Ken Taylor's Halloween print would stop being so rare/expensive, I could officially run out of room on my walls.
I'll stop gushing and leave any more in-depth poster/print talk to our own Limited Paper. For my part, this week's Top 5 includes the first trailer and a video blog recap of 10 minutes of footage from Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, our White House Down set visit recap, an exclusive interview with Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull, the first trailers for Ron Howard's Rush, and an extended interview with Mondo CEO Justin Ishmael. As is customary, a brief recap and link to each is ready and waiting for your attention after the jump.
1. First Trailer for ELYSIUM and Video Blog Recap of 10 Minutes of Footage

Like many of you, Neill Blomkamp's Elysium is one of my most anticipated movies not just of the summer, but of 2013 in general. While the follow-up to District 9 may share many similarities with its predecessor in terms of ...

Opening tomorrow director Brian Helgeland’s Jackie Robinson biopic 42. Starring Chadwick Boseman in the lead role, 42 tells the story of Robinson, the first player to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier by signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Harrison Ford co-stars as Branch Rickey, the MLB exec who signed Robinson into the minors and ushered him along to the pros. 42 also stars Nicole Beharie, T.R. Knight, Christopher Meloni and Toby Huss. For more on the film, here's the trailer, 45 images, 7 clips, and everything we've posted.

With Legendary Pictures producing 42, I recently landed an exclusive interview with Legendary's CEO Thomas Tull. During our wide ranging interview we talked about the films authenticity, Ford's performance, how he got involved with the project, how baseball's status as an American pastime influenced the budget (might be a tough sell in other parts of the world), why they decided to focus on only two years of Robinson's life, how much of the film was "Hollywoodized," and a lot more. In addition, we also talked about his Oscar worthy performance as the Gotham Rouges owner in The Dark Knight Rises, the coolest movie swag he's got in his office, Nerdist Industries, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, his reaction to watching Man of Steel, his relationship with Guillermo del Toro, future projects, and more.

Collider: The most important question is going to be first. Your performance as the Gotham Rouges owner in The Dark Knight Rises was borderline Oscar worthy, were you a little bit disappointed that the Academy didn’t notice your performance?

Thomas Tull: I think it was more along the lines of Christopher ...

Led by Thomas Tull, Legendary Pictures has co-produced some great films including The Dark Knight Trilogy, 300, Observe and Report, Watchmen, Inception, The Town, The Hangover, and Where the Wild Things Are. And they aren't slowing down. In 2013 alone they've got Pacific Rim, 300: Rise of an Empire, Man of Steel, Seventh Son, 42, and The Hangover Part 3. And this list doesn't include all the other cool projects they're currently developing.

With 42 arriving in theaters this weekend, I landed an exclusive interview with Tull where we discussed a wide variety of subjects. However, rather than post the entire conversation today, I'll be offering selected parts over the next few days with the full interview online later this week. Up first, we discuss Legendary's remake of Godzilla, the first test screening of Pacific Rim, and why they're making two really big monster movies at the same time. Hit the jump for more.

One of the things that impressed me about Legendary is the way they've tried to bring the fans from the first day of shooting. A few weeks ago, we posted a Legendary YouTube video showing director Gareth Edwards‘ rolling cameras on Godzilla. I asked Tull if we're going to get more on set videos from not only Godzilla, but other projects:
"We want to make sure that we’re connecting with our fan base. We want to make sure that you’re appropriately surprised and have something to look forward to when you go to see the movie. You don’t want ...

At last weekend's WonderCon, I was able to land an exclusive video interview with Guillermo Del Toro. As you may have noticed, all week we've posted parts of the interview (Pacific Rim 2 news, Justice League Dark news, his thoughts on a Pacific Rim vs. Godzilla movie) but it's now time to offer the entire conversation.

During our extended conversation, we talked about the fans' positive reaction to the Pacific Rim footage, what the test screenings have been like, how he directs every single detail you see on the screen, his preference for visual sense of depth over 3D gimmicks, the Pac Rim comic book with cover art by Alex Ross, the status of his FX series The Strain, all of his upcoming projects, and so much more. If you're a del Toro fan, I promise you will love this interview. Hit the jump to watch.

Guillermo del Toro Time Index:
