PRIDE Trailer and Images Feature Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Paddy Considine Going on Strike

We’ve got a new trailer and some images for Pride, directed by Matthew Warchus and written by Stephen Beresford.  The film stars Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Paddy Considine, Andrew Scott, Joseph Gilgun, George MacKay and Ben Schnetzer and tells the story of a group of gay and lesbian activists who set off to help a small mining village.  Tonally, this reminds me of The Full Monty more than a little, not that it’s a bad thing.  Sometimes I like these small, charmingly conventional tales of uplift.

Hit the jump to check out the Pride trailer and images.  CBS Films will release the movie in theaters on September 19th.  It’s also worth noting that the film is based on a true story from 1984, when these advocacy issues were unfortunately even more taboo than they are today.

THE WORLD’S END Blu-ray Review

The Cornetto Trilogy (aka “Three Flavours Trilogy”) is a cinematic delight in every sense of the word, and its status as such was solidified with the third and final entry in the loosely connected trio of films, The World’s End.  Much more than simply riffs on the horror, action, and sci-fi genres respectively, writer/director Edgar Wright, co-writer/star Simon Pegg, and star Nick Frost have crafted three masterworks of structure that are as entertaining as they are emotionally satisfying.  Following Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, The World’s End may be the toughest and most mature work of the three, capping off the trilogy with a pair of career best performances by Pegg and Frost and wonderfully innovative visual storytelling courtesy of Wright.  Read my full review of The World’s End on Blu-ray after the jump.

THE WORLD’S END Review

[This is a re-post of my review from San Diego Comic-Con 2013.  The World's End opens tomorrow.]

Before I went off to college, several people told me, “It will be the best four years of your life!” In my head, my response was, “That’s horrible!” I didn’t want my life to peak at 22 and then have it all go downhill from there. Furthermore, that comment is rooted in a fear of the future, and has a death grip on the past because at least those were “the glory years.” Edgar Wright’s The World’s End thoughtfully explores the importance of coming to own your past rather than letting it own you. Of course, he does this in the same bravura directing style of his past films, and with the rapid-fire comedy he and co-writer/star Simon Pegg brought to the first two parts of “The Cornetto Trilogy”, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  However, the trilogy’s conclusion makes a firm break with the structure and style of those movies in favor something that’s a little looser, more mature, and just as funny and emotionally honest.

Mondo Poster for Edgar Wright’s THE WORLD’S END by Kevin Tong

I’ve got a lot of love for Mondo, but I’m a bit disheartened at how they do posters for new releases.  They’ve gotten in the habit of releasing a new poster the day the film is released, and I’m assuming the movie studios have a heavy hand in forcing that drop date.  But unless you go see a special late screening the night before, you’re chancing the purchase of a poster for a movie you may not end up liking.  Or, in the case of this new Mondo poster for The World’s End, you can trust critics (myself included) and assume that Edgar Wright‘s latest film is great.  It’s a good-looking poster with artist Kevin Tong almost doing a riff on Martin Ansin, and is definitely worth owning if you’re a fan of the movie.  And if you think you’ll be a fan of the movie, you should roll the dice and see if you can get one when it’s released tomorrow at a random time.  Follow @MondoNews for the on-sale announcement.

Hit the jump to check out the poster.  The World’s End opens tomorrow, and you should see it.

Go Behind the Scenes of Edgar Wright’s THE WORLD’S END in a New Featurette

Director Edgar Wright’s new film The World’s End not only landed on our list of the most anticipated films of the third quarter, but it’s also one of my most anticipated films of the year period.  The pic reunites Wright with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz co-writer/star Simon Pegg and star Nick Frost, and centers on five childhood friends (played by Pegg, Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  A new featurette has been released in which the film’s cast discusses the filmmaking genius of Wright, and we get a look at the director at work by way of some behind-the-scenes footage.  It’s a nice peek behind the curtain, and I really can’t wait to see this thing as soon as humanly possible.

Hit the jump to watch the new featurette, and click here if you missed the previous featurette that centers on the history of Wright’s “Cornetto Trilogy.”  The film also stars Rosamund Pike and opens in the UK on July 19th and in the US on August 23rd.

6 Character Posters for THE WORLD’S END Starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Rosamund Pike

Six character posters have been released for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End.  The story centers on five childhood friends (played by Simon PeggNick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  It would seem like the different title above each actor is a pub name that also describes the character.  However, if you check the names against this teaser poster from last year, you’ll see that only “The Famous Cock” and “The Trusty Servant” are listed, so if you were really hoping that they would visit “The Pickled Newt”, that’s a strange thing to hope for.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The film also stars The Intrepid Fox, Rosamund PikeThe World’s End opens in the U.K. on July 19th and in the U.S. on August 23rd.

New U.S. Trailer for Edgar Wright’s THE WORLD’S END Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

You may have seen the U.K. trailer for director Edgar Wright’s The World’s End previously, but the new U.S. trailer has now been unveiled with plenty of new footage to scope out. The humor seen in the U.S. trailer is just as sharp and funny as the jokes in the U.K. trailer.  Also, after rampaging zombies in Shaun of the Dead and cordial fascists in Hot Fuzz, killer robots feel like a natural antagonist for the conclusion of the “Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy”.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Rosamund Pike.  The World’s End opens in the U.K. on July 19th and in the U.S. on August 23rd.

The first trailer for director Edgar Wright’s new film The World’s End has been released online. The first trailer illustrates exactly what’s in the logine with just a bit more revealed to tease audiences without giving everything away.  I love Pegg’s character already as he looks and acts completely different than either of the previous iterations of the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy.  It’s also nice to see Frost working a polar opposite from Shaun of the Dead’s Ed; I just hope Freeman gets a bigger part than his original outing.  This is going to be a long and excruciating wait.

A new image from writer/director Edgar Wright’s upcoming film The World’s End has landed online.  The highly anticipated pic was written by Wright and Simon Pegg and centers on five childhood friends (played by Pegg, Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  This new image doesn’t shed any light on the plot device that triggers the titular event, but we do get another amusing look at “Goth Pegg” as well as “All-Business Freeman.”  We should learn a bit more about the pic when we see the film’s first trailer, which is expected soon.

New Images from Edgar Wright’s THE WORLD’S END; Co-Writer and Star Simon Pegg Comments on Film

Two new images have been released for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End.  The story centers on five childhood friends (played by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  The movie closes out the “Blood & Ice Cream” Trilogy started by Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, but “It’s a much bigger proposition than the other two films,” says Pegg, who co-wrote the film with Wright.  There are twelve pubs on the crawl (you can see them listed on the Comic-Con poster), and Pegg tells Empire Magazine, “When you’ve seen the film, you’ll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside.”  Your guess is as good as mine for what happens inside “The Famous Cock”.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The World’s End will be released in the U.K. on August 14, 2013 and in the U.S. on October 25, 2013.

Rejoice!  Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost are finally back together.  Production has commenced on The World’s End, the third installment of the trio’s “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy.”  The film follows the incredible one-two punch of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz with a script by Wright and Pegg that centers on five childhood friends going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  Wright again directs, with Pegg and Frost starring alongside Rosamund Pike and Hot Fuzz co-star Paddy Considine.

Along with the news of the start of production comes the welcome announcement that Sherlock and The Hobbit star Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) have also joined the cast.  Production is underway in the U.K. with an eye towards a 2013 release.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.
