THE LEAGUE to Return for Seventh and Final Season in 2015

by     Posted 10 days ago

FX announced today that one of its long-running comedy series will be coming to an end.  The League Season 7 has officially been ordered by the cable network (well, technically by FXX), but it will be acting as the final season for the show.  A 13-episode run of The League is set to debut in Fall 2015, giving the gang one last opportunity to vie for the Shiva Bowl.  Starring Mark Duplass, Katie Asleton, Stephen Rannazzisi, Paul Scheer, Nick Kroll, and Jon Lajoie, the show’s had a delightful run, but it does feel like it’s probably time for it to come to an end.  I’ll be forever grateful for Andre’s terrible outfits and Jason Mantzoukas’ Raffi—one of the greatest television characters of all time—and I look forward to seeing how these characters’ stories come to an end.  One request: can we please get one more “The Adventures of Raffi & Dirty Randy” episode written by Mantzoukas and Seth Rogen?  Because those are amazing.

Check out an announcement video for the final season of The League after the jump.

Watch Highlights from the SPACE JAM Live-Read Featuring Blake Griffin, Nick Kroll, Seth Green, Danielle Fishel, and More

by     Posted 245 days ago

Though a new iteration of Space Jam featuring Lebron James turned out to be a silly rumor (probably for the best), the “classic” 1996 film has been resurrected in live-read form.  A reading of the screenplay recently took place, and the folks at Funny or Die were there to record the entire event.  The eclectic group of participants ranged from comedians like Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, and Ben Schwartz to voice talents like Seth Green and Ralph Garman, and even Boy Meets World’s Danielle Fishel was thrown in for good measure.  Of course someone had to fill Michael Jordan’s shoes, and who better than Los Angeles Clippers star (and University of Oklahoma alum—Boomer Sooner) Blake Griffin?  Additionally, teammate DeAndre Jordan also participated, debuting a mean Charles Barkley impression.

First Trailer for Comedy ASS BACKWARDS Starring Casey Wilson, June Diane Raphael, and Alicia Silverstone

by     Posted 1 year, 110 days ago

The first trailer for the comedy Ass Backwards has been released online.  Directed by Chris Nelson, the film tells the story of two childhood best friends (Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael) who first met at a beauty pageant where they placed dead last.  Now underachieving adults, the two receive an invitation to return to their hometown to attend an anniversary pageant, and they see the opportunity to prove everyone wrong and win the crown.  There’s a strong Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion vibe in this trailer, and the comedic pairing of Wilson and Rapahel (who also co-wrote the film together) is definitely promising.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Alicia Silverstone, Jon Cryer, Vincent D’Onofrio, Brian Geraghty, Bob Odenkirk, Paul Scheer, and Sandy MartinAss Backwards will be available VOD on September 30th and hits theaters on November 8th.

Comic-Con: Paul Scheer, Karen Gillan, and Jonathan Stern Talk NTSF:SD:SUV, Dream Guest Stars, What Fans Can Look Forward to Next Season and More

by     Posted 1 year, 148 days ago

Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV will be returning for its third season on July 25th.  The absurd, and often times hilarious show, will bring back the National Terrorism Strike Force team once again as they continue to hunt down terrorists while gleefully riffing on every possible movie and television cliché.  The new season will also see the team travel to London for a special movie event (which will just actually be a 30 minute episode) that will find the group having to team up with their London counterparts in what is sure to be an especially memorable episode.  Collider was able to sit down for a roundtable interview with series creator/star Paul Scheer, executive producer Jonathan Stern, and new cast member Karen Gillan where the trio talked about what fans can expect from the new season and much more.  You can hit the jump to read more.

Trailer for Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant’s HELL BABY Starring Rob Corddry, Leslie Bibb, and Keegan Michael Key

by     Posted 1 year, 175 days ago

Millennium Entertainment has released a trailer for the horror parody Hell Baby.  The film follows a husband (Rob Corddry) and his pregnant wife (Leslie Bibb) who move into a haunted house in a crappy New Orleans neighborhood, and then need the help of a couple Italian exorcists (writer-directors Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant) when the wife becomes possessed.  I caught the film at Sundance, and there’s a solid 30 minutes of hilarious material, which wouldn’t be so bad if the film wasn’t 90 minutes long.  That hit-to-miss ratio is pretty well demonstrated in this trailer, which mostly features Lennon and Garant doing their silly Italian accents.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Keegan Michael Key, Kumail Nanjiani, and Michael Ian BlackHell Baby will be available on iTunes on July 25th, and hits theaters on September 6th.

Sundance 2013: HELL BABY Review

by     Posted 1 year, 328 days ago

If writer-directors Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant had put more effort into their new film Hell Baby, they could have had one of the best parodies of recent horror movies.  The film has some huge laughs as well as some insight into the genre’s weaknesses, but Lennon and Garant’s sketch comedy roots wreck the picture in the worst way.  They’re content to let their scenes run on way too long, they have no idea how to tie their scenes together, and the result feels like we’re in the middle of something that’s being workshopped rather than a finished feature.  Despite a memorable performance from Keegan Michael Key, Hell Baby feels like a gigantic waste of potential that keeps us interested because we’re waiting for the next great joke.

FX’s THE LEAGUE Renewed for Season Five

by     Posted 1 year, 362 days ago

Good news awaits fans of FX’s comedy series The League. Coming off of strong ratings for season four, the network announced today that they have ordered a 13-episode fifth season of the heavily improvised show.  Quality-wise the series has showed no signs of slowing down, and the stellar ensemble of Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Katie Aselton, and Jon Lajoie continue to kill it week after week, not to mention those glorious way-too-brief appearances of Jason Mantzoukas’ Raffi.  The show’s fourth season wraps up tonight with back-to-back episodes, while production on season five will begin next summer for a fall 2013 debut.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Dave Navarro Guest Stars on SONS OF ANARCHY; Jason Mantzoukas Joins Cast of MODERN FAMILY

by     Posted 2 years, 63 days ago

FX’s intense biker drama Sons of Anarchy has had a number of guest stars already this season (including former Disney star Ashley TisdaleCommunity‘s Joel McHale, and a surprise appearance byJustified‘s Walton Goggins), but here’s another one you might not have expected: Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction will be making an appearance in the final two episodes this year.

In related FX news, Jason Mantzoukas (known to many as Ruxin’s batshit crazy brother-in-law Rafi from the FX fantasy football comedy The League) will be joining the cast of Modern Family this season as Hayley’s (Sarah Hyland) boyfriend, who is also her co-worker and a jeans designer.  If Mantzoukas brings one-tenth of the ridiculousness of Rafi to this new character, I can’t wait.  But does that mean goodbye to Dylan (Reid Ewing)?  In the meantime, hit the jump for more specifics on each of these new characters’ roles.

Watch THE GREATEST EVENT IN TELEVISION HISTORY Featuring Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Gus Van Sant, and Paul Rudd

by     Posted 2 years, 63 days ago

Late last week, Adult Swim aired The Greatest Event in Television History.  The central conceit of the special was that Adam Scott and Jon Hamm were starring in a $25 million shot-for-shot remake of the opening credits for Simon & Simon, dubbed “The Greatest Event in Television History.”  The special hilariously shows the “making of” the project, with Paul Rudd as the event’s cantankerous director and Hamm refusing to speak to Scott.

The special, directed by Scott, was actually hatched when Hamm and Scott had been emailing each other the opening credits to various TV shows and Scott suggested they do a shot-for-shot remake of Simon & Simon.  The result is over 10 minutes of hilarity, with cameos by folks like Kathryn Hahn, Paul Scheer and—best of all—director Gus Van Sant.  The entire special is now available online, and I highly suggest you hit the jump to take a look.

NSFW “Making of PIRANHA 3DD” Featurette Highlights David Hasselhoff, Katrina Bowden and Gary Busey

by     Posted 2 years, 207 days ago

In case you want to see more of Piranha 3DD’s cast than just David Hasselhoff, we have a new “making of” featurette for you to check out.  The Hoff was recently featured in both a clip from the film as well as a character featurette.  This new featurette, while still not a real behind-the-scenes look, showcases David Koechner, Katrina Bowden and Gary Busey talking about their characters and the fictitious lengths they had to go through to bring Piranha 3DD to the screen.  If you’re a fan of boobs and blood, or just an amateur icthyologist eager to learn more, you’ll want to hit the jump to check out the NSFW video.  Directed by John Gulager, the film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Danielle PanabakerPiranha 3DD opens on June 1st.

New PIRANHA 3DD Clip Features Slo-Mo David Hasselhoff and BAYWATCH Nostalgia

by     Posted 2 years, 221 days ago

Dimension Films is doubling your pleasure with a second helping of boobs, blood and killer fish in this summer’s Piranha 3DD. For a while now, I thought the extra D was a cleverly disguised breast joke, but apparently it stands for “David,” as in David Hasselhoff. This new clip from the film features The Hoff in his oh-so-familiar role as a lifeguard.  Fans of the glory days of Baywatch will get a kick out of the segment and the humor aimed at an aging Hasselhoff is spot-on to what you can expect from Piranha 3DD. Be sure to check out the trailer, red-band trailer, posters and images, as well.  The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and Gary BuseyPiranha 3DD opens June 1st.  Hit the jump to check out the new clip.

7 New Images from PIRANHA 3DD

by     Posted 2 years, 250 days ago

Dimension Films has unleashed seven new images from the gore-heavy sequel Piranha 3DD.  They highlight everything we expect to see from the follow-up to Piranha 3D: good looking girls in swimsuits, Ving Rhames with a gun attachment instead of a leg, and David Hasselhoff.  The sequel moves the action to a water park that’s (naturally) kept safe by stripper lifeguards, and I’m assuming much nudity and/or carnage ensues.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey.

First Trailer for PIRANHA 3DD

by     Posted 2 years, 292 days ago

The first trailer for Piranha 3DD has gone online.  For everyone who loved the first movie, the new trailer wants to let you know, “All that stuff you liked?  The boobs, the gore, the silliness, and all that stuff?  Yep.  That’s all here.  Enjoy.”  There seems to be some creative kills in store in addition to the goofiness of stripper-lifeguards and Ving Rhames-Gunlegs.  My only problem with this trailer is the notable absence of Gary Busey.  Hopefully, we’ll see him and his piranha-related lunacy soon.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer. Piranha 3DD currently does not have a release date.
