A couple more actors have joined the ranks of director Ron Howard’s upcoming ocean-set drama In the Heart of the Sea.  The film tells the story of the real life sea disaster of the whaleship Essex, a harrowing ordeal that inspired Herman Melvile’s Moby Dick.  In 1819, the ship was rammed by an angry sperm whale in the South Pacific.  The surviving crew drifted for 90 days in three tiny whaleboats and encountered disease, hunger, and eventually cannibalism.  Variety reports that Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast and is set to play an older version of one of the surviving crewmembers who is interviewed years later by Melville.  Additionally, Sam Keeley (Godzilla) is set to play one of the crew members aboard the ship.

Gleeson and Keeley join an impressive ensemble that includes Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Holland.  Production begins this September.  Hit the jump for casting news concerning the indie Walter.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Review

It would be a gross understatement to say I haven’t been an ardent supporter of the Twilight franchise.  But I have tried to take each film on its own merits.  Nothing can change the fact that it has a despicable core message of how young women should relate to men, but there was always the potential for change.  Bella Swan could become a proactive character.  Edward Cullen and Jacob Black could be more than just brooding, softly smiling eye candy.  Somewhere, in the dreamy clouds of wish fulfillment, there may be something real instead of the silliest, most forced conflicts.  At the series’ conclusion, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 shows us what the Twilight movies could be at their best, but ultimately reminds us about the true nature of this series.

A new clip from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  We recently saw a clip from the film in which Kristen Stewart’s Bella was having fun with her new vampire powers, but this clip focuses on the character re-learning how to act human.  Apparently it’s hard for vampires to control how awesome they are, so Bella has to consciously learn how to fake human things like blinking, slouching, and breathing.  What a drag!

A new featurette and TV spot for the concluding chapter in the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, have been released.  The TV spot doesn’t look like it includes any new footage, but the featurette provides a pretty cool look at the film’s big action effects and stunt work.  A good deal of the featurette is also devoted to the cast trying to explain the ridiculous plot, which involves a governing group of vampires getting angry with Kristen Stewart’s Bella and Robert Pattinson’s Edward because they did the nasty and made a baby.

Hit the jump to check out the featurette and TV spot.  Directed by Bill Condon, the film also stars Taylor Lautner, Mackenzie Foy, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th.

Final Trailer for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2

by     Posted 2 years, 46 days ago

twilight-breaking-dawn-part-2-slice

A new trailer for the final entry in the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, has been released.  If you’ve been waiting patiently to see Kristen Stewart viciously tackle a mountain lion, your moment has come.  This trailer focuses on Stewart’s newfound vampire powers and sets up the major conflict in the film: the vampire government (cult?) the Volturi is angry because they think Bella and Edward created a vampire baby by biting a child, which is apparently frowned upon in the Twilight universe.  As we all know, Renesmee is the fruit of some good old fashioned baby-makin’, but I guess instead of trying to sort out this misunderstanding, the two factions of vampires—and Jacob—decide it’s better to go to war.  The drama and action levels look to have been upped considerably for this finale, and fans of the book series will likely be pleased with the results.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Bill Condon, the film also stars Robert Pattinson, Mackenzie Foy, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, and Jackson Rathbone.  The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th.

Earlier today, before taking the stage in Hall H at Comic-Con, the actors who make up the Cullen vampire family – Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone – held a press conference for a ton of reporters about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2, to discuss not only the last installment in the hugely popular franchise, but also their feelings on the entire experience and how it has personally affected them. Check out what they had to say after the jump.  Also, check out our recap of the Comic-Con panel and interview with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Stephenie Meyer.

Comic-Con: THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Panel; Plus a Sneak Peek at THE HOST

The first time I attended Comic-Con was the first time Twilight came to the massive geek gathering.  I can still hear the shrieks, probably because I was in Hall H for the franchise’s final installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  This year’s panel began on a somber note, and there was a brief moment of silence for the Twilight fan who died on Tuesday.  After the moment of silence, lead actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner were brought to the stage and met with the cheers they’ve always received at Comic-Con.  The trio are joined by Mackenzie Foy, who plays Renesmee.  Author Stephanie Meyer then takes the stage, making this her first Hall H appearance since the first movie.  We then get a special video message from director Bill Condon, who’s currently in London working on the sound mix for Part 2.  He tells the audience that the best way to start this panel is to pick up where Breaking Dawn – Part 1 left off.  Hit the jump for my full recap of the panel.
