The first trailer and poster for Step Up Revolution have gone online. For the fourth entry in the Step Up franchise, the series is taking on flash mobs because of course they are. I’ll admit I’ve never seen any of the Step Up films, but they appear to be made for a very specific audience. If you like watching people dance to music for an hour and a half, then you’re probably a fan of the series. If not, I highly doubt Step Up Revolution is going to change your mind.

Straight from the American Film Market, we’ve got the new synopsis and promo poster for Step Up 4 3D, as well as a new promo poster for The Cold Light of Day. Step Up 4 is the fourth installment in the popular dance franchise, this time taking place in Miami and centering on flash mobs. The cast includes Ryan Guzman, Kathryn McCormick (So You Think You Can Dance), Misha Gabriel (This is It), and Peter Gallagher (American Beauty). Step Up 4 3D opens July 27th, 2012.

We’ve also got a new poster for Cold Light of Day. The thriller stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Bruce Willis, and Sigourney Weaver. It centers on a young American who must race to find the connection between his father’s secrets and his family’s disappearance before time runs out. When a movie is based on a true story, it goes one of two ways, dipping into the realm of over-sentimentality or actually portraying the events in a real and human way.  Luckily Conviction is the latter.  The film is based on the true story of Betty Anne Waters and her 18-year struggle to free her brother, Kenny Waters, after he is wrongfully imprisoned for murdering an elderly neighbor.  This film is confident that the story itself is powerful enough and doesn’t try to sprinkle too much extra on top.  After watching this movie, it reminds me again how Sam Rockwell is one of the most overlooked actors by Awards season every year.  Hit the jump for my review of the Blu-ray of Conviction.

The stars came out to the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on November 15^th to celebrate Academy Award-winning superstar Cher’s return to the big screen with the highly anticipated Thanksgiving release Burlesque. Joining the music icon on the red carpet was Christina Aguilera, fresh from receiving her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that morning, and making her feature film acting debut as the small-town girl who moves to the big city to follow her dream of becoming a star singer. The leading ladies were joined by co-stars Julianne Hough, Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane and Peter Gallagher, along with writer/director Steven Antin, Will Ferrell, Ryan Seacrest, James Marsden, AnnaLynne McCord and Rebecca Gayheart. Sony has sent us eight clips from their upcoming film Burlesque.  Directed by Steve Antin, the film stars Christina Aguilera as an aspiring performer whose vocal talents help revive an ailing Burlesque theater.  The movie also stars Cher, Eric Dane, Cam Gigandet, Julianne Hough, Peter Gallagher, Alan Cumming, Kristen Bell, and Stanley Tucci.

One of the many films that premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was director Tony Goldwyn’s Conviction.  Based on the true story of Betty Anne Waters and her struggle to free her innocent brother from a life sentence in prison, the film stars Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell, Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis, Melissa Leo and Peter Gallagher.

While some might see this movie as nothing more than Oscar bait, I caught a screening and thought Goldwyn did a good job bringing the story to life and it was more than a made for TV movie.  Of course, with fantastic performances from both Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell, it’s a lot easier to make any movie better.  While Sam Rockwell is still under the radar to most moviegoers, his performance in Conviction is just another reason why I think he’s one of the best actors working today.

With Conviction getting released October 15, Fox Searchlight has sent over three clips and you can check them out after the jump.  You can hear both Swank and Rockwell doing New England accents.

A new clip from writer/director Steve Antin’s Burlesque has landed online and boasts what appears to be one of the film’s strongest elements: Grammy-winner and pop icon Christina Aguilera’s incredible voice. In the film, Aguilera plays Ali, an aspiring singer who moves to Los Angeles to chase her dreams of becoming a star. While the film’s elevator pitch may sound less than groundbreaking, you really don’t need to add much more beyond, “…and then Christina Aguilera sings a few numbers, some while scantily dressed as a burlesque dancer.”

Joining Aguilera in her first big screen appearance are Kristin Bell, Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane, Stanley Tucci, Peter Gallagher, and the apparently immortal Cher. Burlesque hits theaters on November 24^th, 2010. In the new USA Network drama Covert Affairs (which premieres July 13th), Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) is a young CIA trainee who is thrust into the inner sanctum of the Agency when she is unexpectedly promoted to field operative. Although she has been plucked from obscurity for her exceptional linguistic skills, there may be bigger reasons why her CIA bosses (Peter Gallagher and Kari Matchett) have taken an interest in her.  With her new job, Annie has to hide her life from her family and friends, including her intrusive older sister (Anne Dudek), but CIA military agent Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), blinded while on assignment, does his best to make her life at the Agency a little smoother.

During a recent interview, executive producer Doug Liman talked about developing a story for the small screen versus the big screen and explained why the USA Network was the perfect fit for this project. He also gave an update on the status of All You Need is Kill and Nick Tungsten, Nightmare Hunter. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

The first image from Fox Searchlight’s Betty Anne Waters has been released and it features Sam Rockwell and Hilary Swank.  Currently set to open in this fall, the film is about a single working mother that spends nearly two decades putting herself through law school and tirelessly trying to overturn her brother’s unjust murder conviction.

Directed by Tony Goldwyn (The Last Kiss), the film also stars Melissa Leo, Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis and Peter Gallagher.  Hit the jump for the full synopsis and image.
