First STRANGE MAGIC Trailer Reveals George Lucas’ New Animated Film; Plus New Images

With the ever-present nature of the internet, it’s rare nowadays that a movie can somewhat blindside you with its existence.  But that’s just what happened recently when Disney announced not only that an animated feature from Lucasfilm called Strange Magic exists, but that it’s coming out in a little over two months.  The film is based on a story by George Lucas, and today the Strange Magic trailer was released, giving us our first look at some footage.  Though the animation is impressive in some respects, the whole thing feels really dated.  There’s a heavy reliance on widely known pop songs, a trend that was all the range during the time of Shrek—over a decade ago.  The fairy tale revolves around a world filled with goblins and elves and is inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream and it might yet drum up some interest from a (very) young crowd of kids, but I have a feeling parents aren’t going to be crazy about this one.

Check out the Strange Magic trailer and some new images after the jump.  Directed by Gary Rydstrom (Lifted), the voice cast includes Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredeth Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein, and Peter StormareStrange Magic opens in theaters on January 23rd.

Lucasfilm’s Animated Movie STRANGE MAGIC Gets January 2015 Release; Story by George Lucas Inspired by A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

Last week, we reported that Disney had registered the domain name “Strange Magic”.  There was speculation that the name could relate to Frozen since the phrase is used twice in the hit film.  However, it turns out that Strange Magic has nothing to do with Frozen, is coming very soon, and has a surprising author.

Disney has announced that Strange Magic is set to open on January 23, 2015.  The animated fairy tale musical comes from a story by George Lucas and is inspired by William Shakespeare‘s A Midsummer’s Night Dream.  The movie will use “popular songs from the past six decades” and features animation by Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and Industrial Light & Magic, the latter having worked on Rango.  Hit the jump for more including the first Strange Magic image.  The movie features the voices of Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth, Maya Rudolph, Sam Palladio, Meredeth Anne Bull, Alfred Molina, Elijah Kelley, Bob Einstein, and Peter Stormare.

22 Jump Street doesn’t arrive on Blu-ray and DVD until November 18th, but about two of the 100 minutes of bonus footage set to come with the Blu-ray edition hit the web early and it’s loaded with wacky and absolutely hilarious outtakes.  In fact, I could probably just watch a full feature’s worth of material with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum messing around while filming that bad trip scene.

Hit the jump to catch Tatum getting tickled by a smiling football and rainbow, hear Hill’s abundance of bleeps and to see Peter Stormare dancing it up at a Spring Break concert in the 22 Jump Street outtakes.  The film also stars Wyatt Russell, Amber Stevens, Jillian Bell, Ice Cube and Nick Offerman.

DreamWorks Animation has released a new The Penguins of Madagascar trailer.  The spin-off features Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private joining with a group of spies to fight the nefarious Dr. Octavius Brine.  This trailer goes into more detail about the plot, but it also provides more of the great humor that was showcased at the film’s Comic-Con panel.  I’m rarely excited for DreamWorks Animation movies, but I expect to have a big smile plastered on my face when I go see this one.

Hit the jump to check out The Penguins of Madagascar trailer.  The film opens in 3D on November 26th, and features the voices of Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Chris Knights, John Malkovich, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Jeong, Annett Mahendru, and Peter Stormare.

In addition to picking up Peter Stormare, Devon Aoki and Brandon Routh for its third season, The CW’s Arrow held a panel today at the San Diego Comic-Con where unveiled a trailer for the aforementioned (and apparently action packed) Season 3.  To be honest, I’ve never seen an episode but what I’m seeing here looks like it hits its intended target.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Willa Wolland and Caity Lotz.  It returns on Wednesday, October 8th at 8pm ET/PT.  Hit the jump for the Arrow Season 3 trailer.  For more on the show and its spinoff, The Flash, check out our interview with writer/producer Andrew Kreisberg.  We’ll also have more on the panel shortly.

The CW’s Arrow has had some great supporting characters in their two short years with excellent casting to fill the roles.  For the upcoming third season, the action/drama will be adding Peter Stormare and Devon Aoki, who will each appear in the season premiere on October 8th at 8pm.  Stormare, who chews the scenery with the best of them in numerous feature film roles, will act as the first villain Team Arrow takes on in the third season.  Aoki, who starred in Sin City and 2 Fast 2 Furious, will take on the role of one of Oliver Queen’s mentors.  We’ll keep their character reveals until after the jump if you want to avoid spoilers.

Speaking of Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell himself took to Facebook recently to proclaim his victory over Comic-Con and teased three big things on his upcoming schedule.  Hit the jump for more.

New International Trailer for 22 JUMP STREET Starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube

A new international trailer for 22 Jump Street has gone online.  Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller return for the comedic sequel, along with stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who move from the halls of high school to the college campus this time around.  The plot still seems to involve busting a drug ring, but that’s secondary to Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko’s (Tatum) hilarious shenanigans such as proper grenade storage and failing to improvise.  Lord and Miller look like they haven’t missed a step, which is high praise considering how much I adore 21 Jump Street.

Hit the jump to check out the 22 Jump Street international trailer.  The film opens June 13th, and also stars Ice Cube, Nick Offerman, Amber Stevens, Peter Stormare, Rob Riggle, Dave Franco, Jillian Bell, and Craig Roberts.

FARGO Blu-ray Review

With the premiere of the intriguing new Fargo limited series, it was inevitable that we’d receive a new Blu-ray version of the modern classic that inspired it. Joel & Ethan Coen‘s Fargo remains one of the high points of their storied career, and while its arrival on Blu-ray has clearly mercenary motivations, it’s no less welcome because of it. Sony Pictures has released a new 22 Jump Street red-band trailer.  Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller return for the comedic sequel, along with stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who move from the halls of high school to the college campus this time around.  This trailer put to rest any doubts I had about the sequel.  Comedy sequels are rarely funnier than the first movie, but this looks like it could be as funny as 21 Jump Street, which is saying something because I fucking love that movie.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  The film also stars Ice Cube, Nick Offerman, Amber Stevens, Peter Stormare, Rob Riggle, Dave Franco, Jillian Bell, and Craig Roberts.  22 Jump Street opens June 13th.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill Go Deep Undercover in First Clip from 22 JUMP STREET

Directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller are quickly becoming some of the most exciting filmmakers working today, and luckily we don’t have to wait long for their follow-up to February’s delightful The LEGO Movie.  The directors are currently putting the finishing touches on their upcoming comedy sequel 22 Jump Street (which we here at Collider are very much looking forward to), and the first clip from the follow-up has now arrived online.  The film finds Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill’s characters taking their undercover operation to a college campus, and in this first 22 Jump Street clip we see that the two also get involved with a drug cartel (led by Peter Stormare, natch).  Unfortunately, Tatum’s character has a bit of trouble nailing down a particular accent.

Hit the jump to watch the clip, and if you missed any of Dave’s set visit coverage be sure to check out his full report and interviews with Tatum & Hill, Lord & Miller, producer Neil H. Moritz, and co-star Wyatt Russell.  The film opens in theaters on June 13th.

We’re happy to bring you an exclusive clip from Jacob Vaughan’s Bad Milo that features stars Ken Marino (Burning Love) and Peter Stormare (Fargo) engaging in some very funny puppet therapy.  Although the horror comedy centers on Ken discovering the source of his intestinal discomfort is a cute(ish) butt demon, this particular exchange occurs before the little guy has made his grand entrance.  Check out Matt’s review of the film from SXSW here.

The film also stars Gillian JacobsPatrick WarburtonMary Kay Place and Stephen Root. Bad Milo will be released on VOD on August 29th and hits theaters on October 4th.  Hit the jump to watch the clip.

Magnet has released the red-band trailer for director Jacob Vaughan’s horror comedy Bad Milo.  The film stars Ken Marino as a man whose severe gastric problems are the result of an anal demon brought on by stress at work and at home.  We previously saw a green-band debut trailer for the film, but this new one doesn’t hold back on the blood, gore, and graphic colonoscopy footage; if you’ve been holding your breath for a movie about an evil butt demon, then this film is right up your alley.  Bad Milo looks batshit crazy in a very good way, and Matt caught the film at SXSW and called it “juvenile and totally hilarious.”  Read his full review here.

Magnet has released the trailer and poster for Jacob Vaughan’s comedy Bad Milo.  The film stars Ken Marino as a man whose severe gastric problems are the result of an anal demon brought on by stress at work and at home.  I saw the film at SXSW back when it was just called “Milo” (the “bad” seems unnecessary unless there’s some confusion regarding good anal demons), and thought it was juvenile and totally hilarious.  The poster is well done, and while the trailer is a bit flat, I highly encourage you to get together a group of friends on a weekday night, have some drinks, and laugh your ass off at watching a gremlin-like creature come out of a guy’s butt.

Magnet to Distribute Anal Demon Comedy MILO Starring Ken Marino and Gillian Jacobs

One of the funniest films I saw at SXSW was Jacob Vaughan‘s Milo.  The juvenile comedy centers on a man (Ken Marino) whose stresses at home and at work causes him extraordinary gastric distress, which isn’t helped by the fact that he has a gremlin-like creature living in his colon.  Today, Magnet has announced that they’ve picked up the film for distribution.  Magnet is definitely a good fit for the film, and I assume the company will go their normal route of releasing the film on VOD before giving it a limited theatrical release.  No release date has been announced, but hopefully audiences will get to see the movie later this year.

Some new images from Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters have cropped up.  If you caught the latest red-band trailer for the flick, you know that Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) are seeking to exterminate witches with their own brand of gratuitous vengeance.  These new images give a good look at the characters and their weapons (is that Looper’s Blunderbuss?) as well as co-stars Peter Stormare (Fargo) and Thomas Mann (Project X).  Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters opens on January 25th.  Hit the jump to check out the new images.
