This weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (or C2E2) located in the beautifully spacious McCormick Place. In only its second year of existence, the convention brings a small taste of the international phenomenon that is San Diego Comic-Con to the Midwest (more specifically, to a brisk, 30 degree Chicago in March). Although light on the film industry presence that SDCC offers in mass quantities (to its credit, Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth was C2E2′s guest of honor and was available for a fan Q&A), C2E2 had a lot to offer in the way of costumed attendees and even threw in a dash of film-related toys for good measure. To be brief, I had a great time at an event I believe has a ton of potential moving forward.
After the jump, you can find some of the photo highlights from my weekend at C2E2. Included are toys from upcoming movies such as Green Lantern, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor. Additionally, I must say it was a pleasure meeting some iconic characters such as Godzilla, Darth Vader, and a teamed-up Harry Potter and Captain Jack Sparrow. If any of the above sounds interesting to you, I recommend taking a few minutes to check out the photographic evidence.
As Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet approaches, Sony wants you to know that the character has got a sweet ride. The “Black Beauty” was featured prominently on the teaser poster for the film and at Comic-Con this year I got to take a close look at the many cars of the film, including the Beauty. A reel showing off the vehicle’s specs and scenes in the movie has now landed online. It’s clear that they’re trying to make the Black Beauty look like the Batmobile for a new generation. I think that cuts to a larger truth that if you’re a guilt-ridden billionaire playboy who’s looking to fight crime, you’re going to pimp your ride with a healthy dose of firepower.
Hit the jump to check out the clip as well as some photos I took of the Black Beauty at Comic-Con. The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz. It’s slated to open in 3D on January 14, 2011.
Marvel put props from Thor and Captain America on the exhibitor’s floor this past weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con. While Captain America’s shield and the helmets of Thor, Odin, and Loki are no big surprise, what was eye-catching is the Infinity Gauntlet. The weapon, which is one of the most powerful in the Marvel Universe, is actually not from the Thor or Captain America comics, but rather from the world of Silver Surfer. You can click over to Wikipedia to learn more about it. The gauntlet will feature in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Much like the Cosmic Cube seen in the Captain America footage, it’s one of Odin’s most treasured items. Could it be the item that Red Skull found in the box at the end of the clip we saw? As best as I can remember, I don’t remember seeing it in the Thor trailer we saw.
Hit the jump to check out the photos of the props. Thor opens on May 6, 2011 and Captain America opens on July 22, 2011.
