Ridley Scott Plans to Deliver a “Fresher Form of Alien” in PROMETHEUS 2

About two months ago, Ridley Scott offered a Prometheus 2 update confirming that the script was being written, that he had “15 drafts evolving” and also that the iconic Xenomorphs will not be part of the sequel.  He noted that “there’s only so much snarling you can do” and that it’s time to do something more interesting, but left it at that.  However, in a more recent interview, Scott gives up a little more information and it teases the direction he could be going in with aliens in the sequel.

Ridley Scott Says BLADE RUNNER 2 Script is Ready to Go; No Xenomorphs in PROMETHEUS 2?

Ridley Scott’s got a lot going on right now, and perhaps too much for those eager to see Blade Runner and Prometheus sequels.  Scott is still gunning to make both, but right now he’s got Exodus: Gods and Kings making its way towards a December 12th debut and he’s busy casting up for his next film, The Martian, too.

Scott recently revealed hopes to shoot Blade Runner 2 right after The Martian and it seems as though he could pull it off because apparently the script for that one is written and ready to go.  Prometheus 2, however, is a different story.  That one’s still in the works and there’s a chance that it won’t include any Xenomorphs.  Hit the jump for more on both projects.

x-men-days-of-future-past-Michael-Fassbender-James-McAvoy-interview

Opening this weekend is director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.  As most of you know, Days of Future Past finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  The film also takes place in the future, so we’re going to see the original X-Men cast and what will happen if Wolverine fails.  I caught a screening last week and am very happy to report the film is great.  It’s loaded with awesome character moments and tons of mutant action.  You’re all going to love it.  For more on the film, watch these five clips and nine minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, and click here for all of our coverage.

At the New York City press day, I landed a great video interview with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.  They talked about the ambition of the sequel, signing a multi-picture deal to play the characters, future movies, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, and so much more.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.

Michael Fassbender Says PROMETHEUS 2 Is a Go; Doesn’t Know When They’ll Begin Filming

During the press day for 12 Years a Slave, Steve asked Michael Fassbender the status of Prometheus 2, and Fassbender quickly responded, “I don’t know.”  Today at the junket for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the question came up again, and this time he said the project is a go, although he didn’t know when it would begin filming.  When we last reported on the film, it seemed like filming was already given the greenlight, but then another report said that there was no release date, it’s unclear if Ridley Scott would return to direct, and that they’ve only hired a new writer (Michael Green).  It’s still unclear if Scott wants to get in the director’s chair again, but Fassbender’s confirmation is still a step forward in the project’s development.  I, for one, am excited to see the continuing adventures of David’s disembodied head.

Michael Fassbender Talks 12 YEARS A SLAVE & Steve McQueen; Plus Updates on PROMETHEUS Sequel, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST & ASSASSIN’S CREED

Expanding into more theaters this weekend is one of the best films of the year: director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave.  Based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name, the true story chronicles his twelve-year journey as an educated and married free man from New York who was abducted in 1841 and forced into slavery for over a decade.  The film is absolutely one of the best of the year and features powerful performances by the whole cast, especially Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Lupita Nyong’O, and it will be a major player in this year’s awards race.  For more on the film, read Matt’s review.

At the recent New York City press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Fassbender.  He talked about how McQueen’s movies always feel real and the scenes and characters believable, and what is it like to have so many people loving the movie.  He also talked about what he collects as well as future projects like the Prometheus sequel, confirmed that filming on Assassin’s Creed begins next year, and attempted to come up with a good tease for fans regarding X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Hit the jump to watch and make sure to see 12 Years a Slave as soon as you can.

While I was ultimately disappointed with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, it certainly did conjure up an awful lot of discussion and interest in Scott’s planned sequel.  Star Noomi Rapace recently spoke with the director about the second film and revealed that work on the script is still underway.  We don’t know who the writer is at the moment, but we do know that Damon Lindelof won’t return to the franchise.  Hit the jump to see what Rapace  did manage to talk about.

TOP 5: THIS IS 40 Interviews, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, PAIN AND GAIN Trailer, Damon Lindelof on PROMETHEUS Sequel and 1952, THIS IS THE END

I’ll be honest, I did very little preparation for this week’s Top 5. With the all-encompassing destruction of the Mayan Apocalypse staring us in the face, I kind of figured what’s the point? No one’s going to care about movie news when Smoke from Mortal Kombat III’s fatality proves prophetic and Earth explodes, right? Alas, as is so often the case, the Mayans failed us and I was forced to pull things together at the last minute.

In this, our first post-Mayan calendar installment, we have This Is 40 interviews with Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann, and Paul Rudd, a new teaser trailer and images for Star Trek Into Darkness, the first trailer for Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain, the scoop on Damon Lindelof‘s lack of involvement in the Prometheus sequel and new info on 1952, and the first red-band clip and poster from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This Is the End. Brief recaps and links to each are waiting after the jump.

Exclusive: Damon Lindelof Is Not Writing the PROMETHEUS Sequel; Explains Why

A few months ago we reported screenwriter Damon Lindelof might not have the time to pen the Prometheus sequel for director Ridley Scott.  I can now confirm the news.  When I spoke to Lindelof last week at a Bad Robot event for the Star Trek sequel (more on that soon), he told me he wasn’t doing it.  He explained that after Prometheus got released, (Scott and Lindelof) had a meeting “where we started talking again about where this journey would go.”  Before Scott could ask him to write the script, he said he couldn’t do it due to other commitments.

For more on why Lindelof said no, hit the jump.

TOP 5: TOTAL RECALL Set Visit, BREAKING BAD, PROMETHEUS, RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION Trailer, ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Set Visit

Apologies for the lack of a Top 5 last weekend. I was so busy prepping to get married, and eventually getting married, that I had to cash in a “sick day” on the best weekend job a person could ask for. The good news is that I have no intention on making this a routine (either the “sick day” or the getting married) so we should be good to go on the regular Top 5 installments for the foreseeable future. The bad news is that I doubt the substantial pile of wedding cards filled with cash/gift cards will catch on as a routine either. You win some you lose some, I guess.

In this week’s return edition you can find a recap of our Total Recall set visit coverage, a new trailer for Breaking Bad Season 5 alongside a fan-made recap of Seasons 1-4, continuing coverage of Prometheus such as Blu-ray details, a sequel recap and more, the first full trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution, and our Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter set visit. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each.

PROMETHEUS Sequel Recap: What We Know About the Possible Follow-Up So Far

by     Posted 2 years, 166 days ago

prometheus-movie-image-michael-fassbender-slice

One of the most anticipated films of the year has now finally been unveiled to the moviegoing public, and boy is there a whole lot of discussion going on.  Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was met with a passionately mixed-to-positive reaction, with those on both sides of the fence ardently stating their case for why Prometheus is awesome and/or terrible.  Interviews with many of the key creative people involved—including Scott and co-writer Damon Lindelof—began to hit the interwebs days before the films release, and I’m assuming a good many of you (like me) steered clear of any and all Prometheus related interviews for fear of spoiling the film before seeing it yourself.  As such, we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

Those who saw the film were probably left with quite a few unanswered questions.  It’s no secret that Scott really wants to make a follow-up to Prometheus in which some of those questions are further explored and answered, so we’ve rounded up what we know so far about said possible Prometheus sequel.  Hit the jump for a recap.  Obviously MASSIVE SPOILERS for Prometheus follow.

Ridley Scott Talks PROMETHEUS, Viral Advertising, TRIPOLI, the BLADE RUNNER Sequel, PROMETHEUS Sequels, More

No matter how much time you get with director Ridley Scott, it’s never enough.  After all, you could spend an entire interview discussing the original Alien, Blade Runner, or his under-appreciated gem, Kingdom of Heaven (specifically the director’s cut with forty additional minutes that completely changes the film).  So when I got to participate in a roundtable interview with Scott yesterday in London for Prometheus, his first sci-fi movie in thirty years, you could say I was a bit excited.

During the twenty minute interview, Scott talked about how Prometheus came about, it’s relation to the original Alien, the viral marketing, technology, his fascination with robots and artificial intelligence, and so much more.  In addition, Scott talked about other projects like Monopoly, the Blade Runner Sequel, what ever happened to Tripoli and what it was about, and reveals that he already has ideas for the Prometheus sequel, assuming he gets to make one.  Hit the jump to either read or listen to the interview.
