If you’ve been holding out for the Alien series on Blu-ray, today’s the day to act.  The four-film Alien anthology—which includes Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection—is currently on sale bundled with Ridley Scott’s sort-of-prequel Prometheus for a mere $19.99 on Blu-ray, which is a whopping 78% off.  That price would be great for just Alien and Aliens plus the extensive Anthology supplements, but throwing in the whole series makes it a very solid buy.

Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy Talk X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, the Ambition of the Sequel, Future X-MEN Movies, the PROMETHEUS Sequel, More

x-men-days-of-future-past-Michael-Fassbender-James-McAvoy-interview

Opening this weekend is director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.  As most of you know, Days of Future Past finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  The film also takes place in the future, so we’re going to see the original X-Men cast and what will happen if Wolverine fails.  I caught a screening last week and am very happy to report the film is great.  It’s loaded with awesome character moments and tons of mutant action.  You’re all going to love it.  For more on the film, watch these five clips and nine minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, and click here for all of our coverage.

At the New York City press day, I landed a great video interview with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.  They talked about the ambition of the sequel, signing a multi-picture deal to play the characters, future movies, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, and so much more.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.

Michael Fassbender Says PROMETHEUS 2 Is a Go; Doesn’t Know When They’ll Begin Filming

by     Posted 137 days ago

Prometheus-2-sequel-news-Michael-Fassbender

During the press day for 12 Years a Slave, Steve asked Michael Fassbender the status of Prometheus 2, and Fassbender quickly responded, “I don’t know.”  Today at the junket for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the question came up again, and this time he said the project is a go, although he didn’t know when it would begin filming.  When we last reported on the film, it seemed like filming was already given the greenlight, but then another report said that there was no release date, it’s unclear if Ridley Scott would return to direct, and that they’ve only hired a new writer (Michael Green).  It’s still unclear if Scott wants to get in the director’s chair again, but Fassbender’s confirmation is still a step forward in the project’s development.  I, for one, am excited to see the continuing adventures of David’s disembodied head.

James Cameron Talks AVATAR Sequels, His Plan for ALIEN 5, PROMETHEUS, the TERMINATOR Reboot, BATTLE ANGEL, CAPTAIN AMERICA 2, and More

by     Posted 163 days ago

Though filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are widely considered some of the most popular directors of all time, James Cameron has the distinct honor of directing the two highest grossing films ever made in addition to helming films in two other incredibly successful (and ongoing) franchises.  Fans had to wait over a decade for the follow-up to Cameron’s mega-hit Titanic, the performance-capture-heavy Avatar, and we’re currently in another waiting stage as we prepare for the long-promised Avatar sequels.

Cameron is deep in pre-production on Avatar 2, 3, and 4 right now with production set to get underway on all three films simultaneously later this year, but he recently took some time out of his schedule to participate in a fascinating and characteristically candid Reddit AMA in support of his upcoming Showtime docu-series Years of Living Dangerously.  In the lengthy AMA, the director discussed the status of the Avatar sequels, his initial plan for Alien 5, his thoughts on Prometheus and the Terminator reboot, the status of Battle Angel, what he thought about Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and even his South Park “appearance”.  We’ve compiled some of the more interesting highlights after the jump.

Ridley Scott to Next Direct PROMETHEUS Sequel for March 4, 2016 Release; Filming Will Begin This Fall [Updated]

ridley-scott-prometheus-2-sequel

When 20th Century Fox announced a glut of release dates last week, buried among the many superhero sequels and team-ups was an Untitled Ridley Scott Project dated for March 2016.  Scott has a number of projects on his plate at the moment, but many wondered whether this untitled project might be the Blade Runner sequel that’s been heating up over the past year, or maybe even the promised Prometheus 2.  Well it appears that the mystery has been solved, as The Wrap reports that the untitled project is indeed a Prometheus sequel.  Moreover, a new writer has been brought onboard and Scott is now eyeing a fall production start-date for the pic.  More after the jump.

[Update: Variety confirms that a new writer has been hired for Prometheus 2, but notes that it's unclear whether Scott will direct and that the film is still undated.  The Wrap's reporter doesn't appear to be disputing Variety's claims, so it's possible the initial story jumped the gun a bit. Hopefully more will be clear soon, but our original story follows after the jump.]

New MONDO Posters for PSYCHO, FLASH GORDON, ALIEN, and More by Kevin Tong and Martin Ansin

Coming off the tremendous success of their Disney gallery, Mondo will be following it up with another big show.  This one will focus on sci-fi, fantasy, and horror with a bent towards emulating classic movie posters.  The artists handling the work will be two of my personal favorites, Kevin Tong and Martin Ansin.  The films they’ve chosen to do include Psycho, Flash Gordon, and Alien as well as more recent stuff such as Prometheus and a variant of the poster for Hannibal.  Unsurprisingly, these posters are gorgeous (I’m particularly enamored of Kevin Tong’s poster for Psycho) and will likely be snapped up in a heartbeat when the gallery opens on Friday.

Ridley Scott Provides Updates on PROMETHEUS 2, BLADE RUNNER 2, and EXODUS; Says PROMETHEUS 2 Is Written

Ridley Scott is currently doing press rounds for The Counselor.  The movie was a bit of a disappointment and tanked at the box office, but that’s okay because the director never slows down.  He’s already charged ahead with his follow up, Exodus.  In a recent interview with Empire, he says the story will be “Fucking huge” and of course he’ll have the parting of the Red Sea.  For those unfamiliar with the project, Christian Bale is playing Moses (because if anyone looks Jewish, it’s a guy named “Christian”), John Turtorro as Pharaoh Seti, Sigourney Weaver as Tuya, Seti’s wife, and Joel Edgerton as Pharoah Ramses.  We previously reported that Aaron Paul and Ben Kingsley may have roles, but Empire doesn’t mention those actors.

Hit the jump for Scott talking about his upcoming projects, Prometheus 2, Blade Runner 2, and more.  Exodus is set for December 12, 2014.

Michael Fassbender Talks 12 YEARS A SLAVE & Steve McQueen; Plus Updates on PROMETHEUS Sequel, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST & ASSASSIN’S CREED

Michael-Fassbender-12-Years-a-Slave-interview-slice

Expanding into more theaters this weekend is one of the best films of the year: director Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave.  Based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography of the same name, the true story chronicles his twelve-year journey as an educated and married free man from New York who was abducted in 1841 and forced into slavery for over a decade.  The film is absolutely one of the best of the year and features powerful performances by the whole cast, especially Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Lupita Nyong’O, and it will be a major player in this year’s awards race.  For more on the film, read Matt’s review.

At the recent New York City press day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Fassbender.  He talked about how McQueen’s movies always feel real and the scenes and characters believable, and what is it like to have so many people loving the movie.  He also talked about what he collects as well as future projects like the Prometheus sequel, confirmed that filming on Assassin’s Creed begins next year, and attempted to come up with a good tease for fans regarding X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Hit the jump to watch and make sure to see 12 Years a Slave as soon as you can.

Michael Fassbender is an incredible actor, so it’s no wonder that he’s found himself at the center of some of the more exciting film franchises as of late in addition to fascinating dramatic fare.  Steve recently sat down with Fassbender to discuss his work in Steve McQueen’s immensely powerful and moving 12 Years a Slave, which opens in theaters next month and is absolutely one of the best films of the year, and during the course of their conversation Fassbender briefly addressed his work in a couple of other upcoming films.

He admitted that he’s unsure about the status of the Prometheus sequel, confirmed that filming on Assassin’s Creed begins next year, and attempted to come up with a good tease for fans regarding X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Hit the jump to watch what he had to say, and look for Steve’s full interview with Fassbender on Collider soon.

As a huge fan of both Mondo and JC Richard, it’s very cool to premiere his new limited-edition screen print for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus.  Going on sale at Mondo’s booth (#936) at Comic-Con around 2pm on Saturday, the poster features a scene from the beginning of the film when the Engineer was dropped off on Earth.

While many had issues with Prometheus, I thought it was really well done and I’m holding out hope that 20th Century Fox and Scott find a way to make a sequel.  Hit the jump for a better look at the poster and click here for all our Comic-Con coverage.

PROMETHEUS Sequel Moving Forward at Fox; Jack Paglen to Write Script

by     Posted 1 year, 97 days ago

prometheus-movie-image-michael-fassbender-slice

20th Century Fox seems to have a game plan with regards to a sequel to last year’s Prometheus.  While director Ridley Scott made no secret of the fact that he envisioned the Alien pseudo-sequel as the beginning of a new franchise, firm movement on the follow-up had yet to materialize.  Coming off a box office take of over $400 million worldwide for the R-rated sci-fi pic, Fox was initially said to be targeting a 2014 or 2015 release date for Prometheus 2.  Screenwriter Damon Lindelof revealed earlier this year that he opted not to return to pen the follow-up, and a few months ago a story surfaced claiming that Fox was “freaking out” over how to continue the story. Well it appears that a logline for Prometheus 2 has indeed been sorted out, as screenwriter Jack Paglen is in talks to pen the script for the follow-up, with Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender expected to return in the starring roles.  Less certain, though, is Scott’s involvement this time around.  Hit the jump for more.

70 Pictures from the Hero Complex Gallery RIGHTEOUS RIDES…AND THE DUDES WHO DRIVE THEM! Gallery Show in Los Angeles

Imagine an art show that focuses on “prominent characters of fiction and their often creative ways of getting around.”  If that sounds cool, then I recommend checking out the new Hero Complex Gallery show called “Righteous Rides…And the Dudes Who Drive Them” that opened in Los Angeles tonight.  The show is located at 2020 South Robertson Blvd., Studio D (90034) and it’s filled with artwork based on the rides from Blade Runner, Akira, Bullitt, Back to the Future, Star Wars, James Bond, Ferris Bueller, Prometheus, Transformers, Up, Star Trek, and so many others it’s too many to list here.  The most important thing to know is that the artwork is really well done and it’s definitely worth the drive.

However, since most of you live outside of Los Angeles, I took pictures of everything on display and after the jump you can check out about 70 images from the show.

Fox “Freaking Out” Over PROMETHEUS Sequel? Not Exactly, Says Damon Lindelof

by     Posted 1 year, 179 days ago

prometheus-movie-image-michael-fassbender-slice

Quite a hubbub occurred earlier today over 20th Century Fox’s supposed difficulty in developing a sequel to Prometheus, and now screenwriter Damon Lindelof has provided a statement on the matter.  Talk of a follow-up to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi film has been around ever since Scott and Co. were doing press for the first film, with both Scott and Lindelof offering up plenty of details regarding where Prometheus 2 might lead.  The first film was developed with an eye towards possibly moving forward with a full trilogy should audiences spark to Prometheus, and with a global box office haul of $403 million, Fox is understandably keen on getting a sequel going soon.

Lindelof opted not to come back and pen the script for the follow-up due to scheduling issues, and a new report today claims that Fox and Scott are “freaking out” over trying to figure out the story for Prometheus 2 after Lindelof “abandoned” the project.  Hit the jump for much more, including Lindelof’s comment on the matter.

While I was ultimately disappointed with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, it certainly did conjure up an awful lot of discussion and interest in Scott’s planned sequel.  Star Noomi Rapace recently spoke with the director about the second film and revealed that work on the script is still underway.  We don’t know who the writer is at the moment, but we do know that Damon Lindelof won’t return to the franchise.  Hit the jump to see what Rapace  did manage to talk about.
