In this updated, contemporary version of the beloved stage play and 1989 film, Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through triumphs and tragedies, they share the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children, and all the other important topics that truly unite and celebrate women. From director Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun) and screenwriter Sally Robinson, the film stars Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad.

During this recent interview to promote the October 7th premiere on Lifetime television, executive producers Queen Latifah, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (the producing duo for Chicago and Hairspray) talked about how this version is different from the original, the challenges they had in producing this new adaptation, the universal themes of the story, putting this great cast together, how much the actors all supported each other during shooting, how they came to partner with Lifetime, their favorite moments on set, and what they enjoy about working with each other. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

The second full trailer for Ice Age: Continental Drift has been released.  The fourth installment in the Ice Age franchise finds the kooky characters attempting to survive the breakup of Pangea, when Earth’s supercontinent begins to rift.  Though I’m not the biggest fan of the series, there are more than a few laughs to be found in this latest trailer.  The MVP of the franchise has always been John Leguizamo’s Sid the Sloth, and he shines in this latest clip.  We also get a glimpse of the film’s antagonists, a gang of pirates led by a prehistoric orangutan voiced by Peter Dinklage.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The voice-cast includes Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Wedge, John Leguizamo, Aziz Ansari, Nick Frost, Joy Behar, JB Smoove, Alan Tudyk, Heather Morris, Josh Gad, Kunal Nayyar, Alain Chabat, and hip/hop artist Nicki MinajIce Age: Continental Drift opens in 3D on July 13th.

Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard and Peter Fonda Star in HOUSE OF BODIES

by     Posted 2 years, 271 days ago

In the indie thriller House of Bodies, a police detective, a Death Row inmate, a deaf child and a telephone relay operator are brought together via the mysterious events surrounding a grisly string of copycat murders. The common link between each of them is the House of Bodies, a voyeuristic website based in a serial killer’s home. House of Bodies, which just started production through Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere’s Flavor Unit Studios, will star Latifah, Terrence Howard and Peter Fonda. Latifah and Compere are also executive producing the picture along with Otis Best, Yaneley Arty and Shelby Stone. Hit the jump for more on House of Bodies.

A new trailer for the fourth installment in the Ice Age franchise, Ice Age: Continental Drift, has gone online. In this adventure, Scrat accidentally triggers the breakup of Pangea and thus the splitting of the continents while pursuing that ever-elusive acorn (seriously, there are other acorns in the world, Scrat). This trailer highlights this entry’s newest inhabitants: the Gigantopithecus (an extinct genus of ape). I’m not the biggest fan of the series, but kids seem to love it and the movies make a great deal of money at the box office so I guess there’s an audience for the fourth entry.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The voice-cast includes Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Wedge, John Leguizamo, Aziz Ansari, Nick Frost, Joy Behar, JB Smoove, Alan Tudyk, Heather Morris, Josh Gad, Kunal Nayyar, Alain Chabat, and hip/hop artist Nicki Minaj. Ice Age: Continental Drift opens in 3D on July 13th.

New Annie Leibovitz Photos of Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen from SNOW WHITE, Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and Queen Latifah as Ursula from THE LITTLE MERMAID

by     Posted 3 years, 290 days ago

As part of her on-going series for Disney Parks, celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz has added more Hollywood actors and actresses into re-enactments from famous Disney movies.  The new series features Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen and Alec Baldwin as the Magic Mirror from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as the eponymous Beauty and the Beast, and Queen Latifah as Ursual from The Little Mermaid.  These photos are much better than Leibovitz’ work for Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, but to be fair, nothing’s going to stop that musical from looking silly.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedy The Dilemma and it looks exactly like the movie you’d expect.  Basically, if you like bland-looking situation comedy but always want to spend $10 and go to the theater to see it rather than stay home and watch Two and a Half Men, then The Dilemma looks like the movie for you.  And hey, it’s Vince Vaughn once again playing Savvy-but-Beleaguered-Guy!  Oh, SBBG.  Can’t you ever get a break?

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah Make a JOYFUL NOISE

by     Posted 4 years, 119 days ago

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah are teaming up for Joyful Noise, which revolves a small-town gospel choir.  As the film begins, the local choir director dies, and his widow (Parton) hopes to take over the job.  Though Latifah is placed in charge, the two women join forces to keep the choir from folding.  This is Parton’s first starring role in over a decade, after 1992′s Straight Talk.

According to THR, Todd Graff (Bandslam) is set to write and direct the feature for Alcon Entertainment.  Graff is also the man behind the upcoming remake of Damn Yankees, with Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal as the leads.

Director Adam Shankman Says HAIRSPRAY 2 is Dead

Hairspray movie slice

Director Adam Shankman has told the British press that Hairspray 2 is dead.  He said:

“I’m going to kill that rumour now, that got killed,” Adam said in Hollywood.  He added: “It’s ok, I was so happy with the first one, let’s leave well enough alone. It’s all good.”

Even though the 2007 film grossed over $200 million at the worldwide box office and starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow and Zac Efron, it seems they could never crack the code to make a sequel work.  Back in April of 2009, Shankman talked about the Hairspray sequel at the 17 Again press day.  Hit  the jump for more:

Did you like the movie Love Actually?  Are you a fan of Ashton Kutcher, Kathy Bates, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Jessicas Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Shirley MacLaine, Patrick Dempsey, Topher Grace, Queen Latifah, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Eric Dane, Hector Elizondo, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts or Julia Roberts?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you’re probably going to want to see director Garry Marshall’s (Pretty Woman) new movie Valentine’s Day next February 12th.  That’s because the movie is following the playbook of Love Actually and loading itself up with tons of movie stars and telling the story over the course of one day.  It just so happens the story takes place on Valentine’s Day.

As someone who really enjoyed Love Actually, I’m very curious about this movie.  Also, with a cast like this, how can I not be curious?  Check out the new poster and trailer after the jump.

VALENTINE’S DAY Teaser Trailer Starring Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Ashton Kutcher, Julia Roberts

There are few guarantees in the film industry but a romantic comedy release in time for Valentine’s Day film is one of them.  After several years of up-and-down entries (“Definitely, Maybe” in 2008, “He’s Just Not That Into You” in 2009), Gary Marshall’s new film, “Valentine’s Day” is poised to become America’s answer to the British “Love Actually.”  Similarly to “Love Actually,” “Valentine’s Day” will follow ten different romantic (mis)adventures as they unfold in Los Angeles on (when else?) Valentine’s Day.  Hit the jump to see the full cast list as well as the new trailer
