The first red-band trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives is now available.  Star Ryan Gosling is positively seeing red in this color-saturated and atmospheric look at Refn’s new revenge thriller.  A little bit of Thai karaoke plays the overture for a few brutal scenes which force you to infer what this particular tale is about.  Gosling sums it up nicely with a simple question at the end of the trailer.  I cannot wait to see more.

Also Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm, Only God Forgives opens July 19th.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

First Red-Band Trailer for THIS IS THE END Starring Seth Rogen and James Franco

As promised, the first red-band trailer for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s comedy This Is the End has dropped.  It’s a more violent and foul-mouthed version of the green-band trailer they screened at WonderCon (which will debut later this week).  There’s plenty of apocalyptic story to be told in this two-and-a-half-minute trailer, but a lot of the great comedic beats and celebrity appearances/deaths are spoiled right off the bat.  The movie’s premise is already a great hook so I’m hoping that not too much more is revealed in the months to come.

Starring Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Jason Segel, Danny McBrideCraig RobinsonMichael Cera, Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, Jay Baruchel, Mindy Kaling, Kevin Hart, Martin Starr and more, This Is the End opens June 12th.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

If you felt this morning’s version of the Kick-Ass 2 trailer featuring Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) was a bit light on blood and profanity, then this new red-band version of the same trailer might be more your speed.  It’s a funnier cut than the earlier one precisely because cute girls saying vulgar things and beating the bloody snot out of people is just downright hilarious.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and new character poster for Moretz’s Hit-Girl.  The movie co-stars Aaron Taylor-JohnsonClark DukeDonald FaisonJohn Leguizamo, Jim Carrey and Olga Kurkulina.  Kick-Ass 2 opens August 16th.

It was almost a year ago when last we reported on K-11, the directorial debut of Kristen Stewart’s mother, Jules Stewart.  Although Kristen Stewart’s potential part was performed instead by Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt), Stewart-sibling Cameron does have a role in the picture.  The real standout, however, is the popular Mexican actress Kate del Castillo (Under the Same Moon), who plays a transsexual leader of the titular section of the LA County Jail, an apparently brutal area reserved for homosexuals.  Hit the jump to watch the violent red-band trailer and see the new character poster for K-11 featuring del Castillo.  K-11 will be available on demand and in theaters starting March 15th.

New Red-Band Trailer for SPRING BREAKERS

A new red-band trailer has been released for Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers.  The movie centers on a group of co-eds (played by Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine) who go to disturbing lengths to keep their spring break going, and their journey becomes even stranger when they encounter unhinged drug dealer, Alien (James Franco).  The fun thing about these trailers is that they can’t really spoil the film, because so much of what defines Spring Breakers is the tone.  And as strange as these trailers make the movie look, they’re somewhat misleading, because the flick is not constant, poppy intensity as much as it’s something that absolutely overwhelms the audience.  I caught the film at TIFF, and I can’t wait to see what the widespread reaction will be when the film opens next month.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Spring Breakers opens in New York and L.A. on March 15th, and opens nationwide on March 22nd.

Red-Band Trailer for KISS OF THE DAMNED Starring Milo Ventimiglia

A new red-band trailer is now online from writer/director Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned.  Starring Milo Ventimiglia as Paolo, a screenwriter who falls for the vampiress Djuna (Josephine de La Baume), Kiss of the Damned takes audiences into vampire society and explores what happens when Djuna’s rogue sister Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) threatens to upset the balance.  I can’t tell if the new trailer is a grown up version of Twilight or a more serious take on True Blood, but it’s somewhere in between.  Kiss of the Damned will be available on demand March 28th and in theaters on May 3rd.  Hit the jump to check it out.

Red-Band Trailer and New Poster for Danny Boyle’s TRANCE Starring James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson

A new red-band trailer for Danny Boyle’s Trance is now available.  The crime-thriller stars James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) as Simon, a criminal mastermind behind an art heist who develops amnesia and forgets where he stashed the goods.  The mob boss, played by Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), is none too happy with this and resorts to torture to get his information.  Rosario Dawson (Sin City) also stars as a hypnotist who attempts to jumpstart Simon’s memory in another way.  This trailer certainly earns its red-band status with a combination of bloody torture, sex and violence and looks to be another Boyle classic.

Trance will open on March 27th in the U.K. and April 5th in the U.S.  Hit the jump to watch the new red-band trailer.

New Red-Band Trailer for MOVIE 43 Reveals New Scenes and Adds Animation to the Mix

If you’re going to promote a movie as raunchy as Movie 43, you’re going to have to rely on red-band trailers.  We’ve already seen one and now a second trailer for the comedy anthology is available.  It’s got some new bits of dialogue in scenes and gags you’ve already seen in previous spots but the last bit in the new trailer is worth sticking around for, if only for the sake of its audacity.  You’ll never look at your cat the same way again.

Starring Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Terrence Howard, Halle Berry, Jason Sudeikis, Gerard Butler, Kristen Bell, Chloe Moretz, Josh Duhamel, Johnny Knoxville, Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Richard Gere, Anna Faris, Justin Long, Liev Schreiber, Uma Thurman, Seann William Scott, Kieran Culkin, Leslie Bibb, Jimmy Bennett, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Kate Bosworth, Patrick Warburton, Tony Shalhoub, Chris Pratt, Jack McBrayer, Aasif Mandvi and Bobby Cannavale,  Movie 43 opens January 25, 2013.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer.

THE LAST STAND Red-Band Trailer

Sometimes you just need a red-band trailer to get a good sense of a film’s tone and that’s exactly the case for The Last Stand.  Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a former LAPD officer turned small town sheriff, The Last Stand sets his rag-tag department and their under-powered arsenal against a reckless and dangerous drug lord and his militia, who are set to blaze through town and cross the border out of the country.  While this red-band trailer gives you a much better idea of the level of action and mayhem you can expect, it also ruins a few of the kill scenes, which are some of the film’s strongest moments and biggest surprises.  If you’re still so inclined, hit the jump to watch the red-band trailer for The Last Stand, which opens January 18th.

Exclusive Premiere of the New HANSEL AND GRETEL WITCH HUNTERS Red-Band Trailer

We’re happy to host the exclusive premiere of the new red-band trailer for Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters.  While the previous trailer highlighted a lot of the witch-killing action by the brother-and-sister team, this new trailer sheds a bit more light on their backstory.  Hansel and Gretel are revealed to have a motive for killing witches that goes beyond just having a badass profession.  We also get a few new one-liners from title stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, which are good for a laugh and great for setting the tone of the picture, one that thankfully doesn’t take itself too seriously.

From director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) comes the dark fairy tale Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, also starring Peter Stormare, Famke Janssen, Thomas Mann and Zoe Bell, which opens January 25, 2013.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

JOHN DIES AT THE END Red-Band Trailer

When you’re drumming up interest in a picture like writer/director Don Coscarelli’s John Dies at the End, you’ve got to have a red-band trailer. How else are you going to explain to people that this cult classic in the making has legions of topless women in weird masks, gratuitous bloody violence, hellish creatures that eat men whole and a walking, talking meat monster? I mean, I guess you could just say that, but it wouldn’t be nearly as effective.

The picture stars Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, Doug Jones, Daniel Roebuck, Jonny Weston and Fabianne Therese.  Look for John Dies at the End on demand starting December 27th with a theatrical release on January 25th.  Hit the jump to watch the new red-band trailer.

A new red-band trailer has been released for Judd Apatow‘s new comedy, This Is 40.  The Knocked-Up spin-off follows Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann) as they try to navigate new challenges to their careers, parents, marriage, and children.  Since Apatow films about 26-days of ad-libbing, a third of the jokes in this trailer aren’t in the movie even though the film is over two-hours long.  That’s not to say that movie isn’t funny, but it’s odd to use jokes to sell the film and then decide those jokes weren’t good enough for the final cut.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, John Lithgow, Chris O’Dowd, Jason Segel, Maude Apatow, and Iris ApatowThis Is 40 opens December 21st.

First Red Band Trailer for NATURE CALLS Starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, and Rob Riggle

patton oswalt nature calls

Magnet Releasing has the unveiled the first trailer for Nature Calls.  Since Nature Calls is about a group of obscene men who take a group of foul-mouthed boy scouts on a camping trip, you better believe it’s a red band trailer.  When executed well, this particular comedy subgenre can be very funny.  And with a cast led by Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, and Patrice O’Neal, the stars range from funny to very funny.  That does not come across in the trailer, which is artificially crass and grating.  But that doesn’t mean that writer/director Todd Rohal can’t pull it off at feature length.  Here’s hoping.

Nature Calls hits VOD on October 4 followed by a theatrical release on November 9.  Watch the red band trailer after the jump.

Red Band Trailer for SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS Starring Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, and Sam Rockwell

A red band trailer for director Martin McDonagh‘s (In Bruges) dark comedy Seven Psychopaths has been released.  The film follows a trio of dognappers (Colin FarrellSam Rockwell, and Christopher Walken) who steal the wrong shih tzu and end up running afoul of a psychotic gangster (Woody Harrelson).  I actually think I slightly prefer the green band trailer, but the cast is still aces in this clip.  Walken again steals the show with his genius looks/delivery, but there really doesn’t seem to be a weak link anywhere.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Tom Waits, Gabourey Sidibe, Abbie Cornish, and Olga Kurylenko.  Seven Psychopaths opens on October 12th.
