20th Century Fox debuted a new red-band trailer for director Matthew Vaughn’s (X-Men: First Class) adaptation of the Mark Millar graphic novel Kingsman: The Secret Service during tonight’s series finale of Sons of Anarchy.  The story of Kingsman revolves around a secret spy organization called, appropriately enough, Kingsman, in which Colin Firth’s veteran spy works to recruit and train an unrefined but promising street kid (Taron Egerton).  I’m a fan of Vaughn’s previous work (particularly the underrated Stardust) and he looks to be having a hell of a lot of fun here with Kingsman.  The film is essentially an R-rated version of a James Bond film tinged with Vaughn and co-writer Jane Goldman‘s wicked sense of humor, and all of that is very apparent in this new NSFW trailer.  Moreover, as opposed to a lot of the other bland “young stars on the rise” that Hollywood tries to force into superstardom, Egerton looks to have some genuine charisma and talent.

Check out the excellent new Kingsman: The Secret Service red-band trailer after the jump.  The film also stars Michael Caine, Mark Strong, Jack Davenport, and Mark HamillKingsman: The Secret Service opens in the UK on January 29, 2015 and in the US on February 13, 2015.

First UNFINISHED BUSINESS Red-Band Trailer: Vince Vaughn Starts a Business with Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson

by     Posted 22 days ago

unfinished-business-red-band-trailer

The first Unfinished Business red-band trailer has been released for director Ken Scott’s (Starbuck) upcoming comedy, previously titled Business Trip.  The film stars Vince Vaughn as a man who starts his own small business after being fired, only to find himself up against his old boss (Sienna Miller) during a business trip to Europe.  The movie actually looks really funny, which is a tad ironic considering Scott most recently directed Vaughn in the very unfunny Delivery Man.  There look to be some fantastic supporting turns from Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson as Vaughn’s new partners, and Nick Frost is a very welcome face amongst the cast as well.  Additionally, this is certainly one of the most NSFW red-band trailers I’ve seen in a while.

Check out the first Unfinished Business red-band trailer, green-band trailer, and first poster after the jump.  The film also stars James Marsden and opens on March 6, 2015.

THE WEDDING RINGER Red Band Trailer Not Nearly as Funny as THE WEDDING RINGER Green Band Trailer

by     Posted 28 days ago

the-wedding-ringer-red-band-trailer

I actually like raunchy R-rated comedies quite a bit, so please don’t take this criticism as coming from someone who’s offended.  I’m not.  I’m just not laughing.  I’d still go see The Wedding Ringer when it comes out in January, but it won’t be based off this trailer that’s for sure.  When I started this post, I hadn’t actually seen anything from the film yet (including the earlier trailer) and this red band trailer on its own had me almost ready to write the whole thing off.  But then I went back and watched the green band trailer and actually laughed.  There, I saw a movie that had some jokes and a sense of character.  Here, all I see is every possible use of “fuck” at the marketing team’s disposal, dumped into a trailer with little or no context.

So I’m almost posting this as an experiment.  I’m including the green band trailer again below the new red band trailer.  Tell me which one you actually think works (if at all).  The film was directed by Jeremy Garelick (who did The Break-Up - a movie I really like) and stars Josh Gad, Kevin HartKaley Cuoco-SweetingKen Howard, Olivia ThirlbyCloris LeachmanJenifer Lewis, and Mimi Rogers.  Hit the jump for The Wedding Ringer red band trailer.  The film opens in theaters on January 16, 2015.

NIGHTCRAWLER Red Band Trailer Packed with Critic Quotes and Hilariously Crude Behavior

Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler isn’t even a comedy, but this clever new red trailer had me laughing more than any other promo I’ve seen in a while.  The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom, a guy desperate to score a job.  While on the hunt, Lou stumbles across a “nightcrawler,” someone who captures footage of fires, murders and all sorts of chaos to sell to new stations and Lou comes to the conclusion that the gig is perfect for him.

Nightcrawler is due in theaters on October 31st and in honor of the release, Open Road Films just unveiled a brand new trailer for the movie.  As this is likely one of the last promos we’ll get, naturally, this Nightcrawler red band trailer is loaded with critic quotes.  They’re all glowing, but not in the way one might expect.  This is a see it to believe it kind of piece so hit the jump to check it out and click here to give Matt’s Nightcrawler review a read.

New SEX TAPE Red Band Trailer: Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel Try Every Position in THE JOY OF SEX

It’s trailer night on Collider!  Following trailers for The Judge, The Wedding Ringer, and The Good Lie, we now have the latest Sex Tape red band trailer for you.  Sony has already released three Sex Tape trailers, but for a raunchy comedy bluntly titled Sex Tape, it can’t hurt to offer more dirty jokes for a red band audience.  Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel play a married couple who film a sex tape to spice up their love life.  Their video is accidentally uploaded to “the cloud,” which sends the couple through a series of hijinks to prevent everyone they know from seeing the video. Ellie Kemper, Rob Corddry, and Rob Lowe co-star in director Jake Kasdan‘s follow-up to Bad Teacher.  Sex Tape opens July 25.  Check out the Sex Tape red band trailer after the jump.

New Red-Band Trailer for A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST Starring Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, and Liam Neeson

Universal has released a new A Million Ways to Die in the West red-band trailer.  The story revolves around a cowardly farmer (Seth MacFarlane, who also directed and co-wrote the film) who backs out of a gunfight and subsequently loses his girlfriend.  When he later meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who teaches him how to shoot, he gets an opportunity to win his pride back, but must choose between reclaiming an old love or kindling a new one.  The plot thickens when the outlaw returns to claim his woman.  This red-band trailer contains a lot of the jokes from the first red-band trailer, but the new jokes are terrific.  The film remains one of my most-anticipated of the summer.

NSFW Trailer for David Cronenberg’s MAPS TO THE STARS Starring Mia Wasikowska, Julianne Moore, John Cusack, and Robert Pattinson

A new Maps to the Stars trailer has gone online, and this one is a French, NSFW version (it’s NSFW because of language and nudity, not because it’s French).  The film follows an archetypical Hollywood dynasty including a writer of self-help manuals, his wife who manages the career of their 13-year-old son, and their daughter, who was recently released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania.  The plot also includes Havana, an actress who wants to remake a movie that starred her now-deceased mother.  Like yesterday’s trailer, I’m still not quite sure what to make of the movie.  There are clearly some darkly comic elements, but there’s also some serious intensity, and it’s sometimes difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.  I can’t wait to see this flick.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams, and Sarah GadonMaps to the Stars opens in France and Italy on May 21st, and will probably make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.  A U.S. release date has yet to be announced.

New Red-Band Trailer for 22 JUMP STREET Starring Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube

Sony Pictures has released a new 22 Jump Street red-band trailer.  Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller return for the comedic sequel, along with stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who move from the halls of high school to the college campus this time around.  This trailer put to rest any doubts I had about the sequel.  Comedy sequels are rarely funnier than the first movie, but this looks like it could be as funny as 21 Jump Street, which is saying something because I fucking love that movie.

Universal has released two new red-band trailers for Nicholas Stoller‘s upcoming comedy, Neighbors.  The film stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a married couple who must deal with a fraternity—headed up by Zac Efron—when it moves in next door.  I’ve heard nothing but good things about the movie (click here to read Perri’s review from SXSW), and Universal clearly has a lot of faith in it.  I wouldn’t be surprised if this ended up being the breakout comedy of the summer.  What’s great about these trailers is that even though they’re red-band, there are jokes that are funny even though they’re not R-rated.

New Red-Band Trailer for SABOTAGE Gets Personal

The recent footage for David Ayer’s Sabotage has certainly shown off the bloody violence prevalent in the R-rated actioner, but this new red-band trailer surprisingly shows us the reason that audiences should become invested in the film’s characters.  This new cut goes beyond the violent action and compelling mystery that are central to the plot in order to show the heart behind Arnold Schwazenegger’s character’s journey.  Though he fronts a DEA task force combating a ruthless drug cartel, the danger sets in on him from both sides as the criminals kidnap his family and his partners start disappearing one by one.

Also starring Sam Worthington, Joe Manganiello, Mireille Enos, Josh Holloway, Olivia WilliamsHarold PerrineauTerrence HowardMax Martini, and Kevin VanceSabotage opens March 28th.  Hit the jump to watch the new red-band trailer.

Red-Band Trailer and Poster for Ti West’s THE SACRAMENT

Magnet has released a red-band trailer and poster for Ti West‘s new horror film, The Sacrament.  The film stars AJ Bowen and Joe Swanberg (both actors from You’re Next) as reporters for VICE Media who go to a remote Central American compound that holds a religious “community” (i.e. cult).  The utopian setting is then revealed as (shocker) not all it appears to be, and judging by the trailer, lots of violence and horror ensues (naturally).  I do like the premise, and I hope West can deliver on it.

Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer and poster.  The film also stars Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Kentucker Audley (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), and Gene Jones (No Country for Old Men).  The Sacrament is On Demand on May 1st and opens June 6th.

Universal Pictures has released the first red-band trailer for Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s latest directorial feature A Million Ways to Die in the West.  It’s also MacFarlane’s live-action acting debut, and judging from this first look, he’s actually a bit more reserved than his animated counterparts.  The dangers of the wild west more than make up for MacFarlane’s toned-down performance as it looks like the film will live up to its title; just about anything and everything in this world can and will kill you in the most hilarious way possible.

Red-Band, For Your Consideration Trailer for BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR Shines a Spotlight on Adele Exarchopoulos

Blue Is the Warmest Color is a terrific film, but due to the Academy’s arcane and idiotic rules, it’s ineligible for Best Foreign Film.  However, it can still be nominated in other categories, and IFC Films has released a red-band trailer pushing for Adele Exarchopoulos to get a Best Actress nomination.  She absolutely deserves wide-spread recognition for her astounding performance as a young woman moving through a romantic and sexual awakening.  I’ve never seen a publicly released For Your Consideration trailer, and the movie hit theaters back in October, but I’m glad IFC is continuing to lobby for the picture and its breakthrough star.  This could also be an attempt to deflect the press-tour tensions that threatened to overshadow the Palm d’Or winner.  Either way, if FYC the campaign succeeds, it could help boost sales of the bare bones Criterion Collection release in February (Criterion promises a “full special edition” will be released a later date).
