Weekend Box Office – THE LION KING 3D Keeps Its Crown; MONEYBALL Slides to Second with $20.6 Million

Once again, it looks like I was foolish to bet on Moneyball.  Blinded by the strong opening day of this long-time underdog, I completely forgot that last weekend’s champ would have a home field advantage on Saturday.  The final score put The Lion King 3D back on top and added another $22.1 million to the re-release’s lifetime stats.  Moneyball had to settle for second, though the estimates between it and the week’s newest family film, Dolphin Tale, are close enough that the baseball flick could conceivably fall to third by Monday.

Title Weekend Total
1 The Lion King 3D $22,100,000 $61.6
2 Moneyball $20,600,000 $20.6
3 Dolphin Tale $20,300,000 $20.3
4 Abduction $11,200,000 $11.2
5 Killer Elite $9,500,000 $9.5
6 Contagion $8,565,000 $57.1
7 Drive $5,771,000 $21.4
8 The Help $4,400,000 $154.4
9 Straw Dogs $2,100,000 $8.8
10 I Don’t Know How She Does It $2,053,000 $8

Weekend Box Office – INCEPTION Leads for Third Straight Week with $27.3 Million; DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS Takes Second with $23.3 Million

by     Posted: August 1st, 2010 at 9:59 am

After briefly giving way on Friday for newcomer Dinner For Schmucks, Inception is back on top for a third straight weekend. Once again, Christopher Nolan’s original thriller retained nearly 65% of its grosses from last weekend and is now looking to cross $200 million by midweek. Schmucks placed second with $23.3 million while the weekend’s two other wide releases, Charlie St. Cloud and Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore became the latest disappointments in a summer that has seen little else.

Title Weekend Total
1 Inception $27,500,000 $193.3
2 Dinner for Schmucks $23,300,000 $23.3
3 Salt $19,300,000 $70.8
4 Despicable Me $15,500,000 $190.3
5 Cats & Dogs 2 $12,500,000 $12.5
6 Charlie St. Cloud $12,100,000 $12.1
7 Toy Story 3 $5,035,000 $389.6
8 Grown-Ups $4,500,000 $150.7
9 Sorcerer’s Apprentice $4,320,000 $51.8
10 Twilight: Eclipse $3,965,000 $288.1

REMEMBER ME DVD Review

Remember Me image - slice

A lot was riding on Remember Me, Robert Pattinson’s first big starring role where he wasn’t trying to embody the perfection of a young wizard, the flamboyance of Salvador Dali, or the sparkling bloodlust of Edward Cullen.  Once production made it through the throngs of paparazzi and Twi-hards, the question loomed: Could RPatt transcend Twilight and command the box office? But Remember Me wasn’t the sort of fare to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars. Ultimately, the film made a healthy amount of money for an indie venture, and contrary to what you may have heard, it’s certainly worth your time.  More after the jump:

Chris Cooper Video Interview REMEMBER ME

Chris Cooper Remember Me slice.jpg

To help promote Summit Entertainment’s Remember Me, I got the chance to talk with Chris Cooper about his involvement in the film.  If Cooper looks familiar, it’s probably from his work in such moves as The Bourne Supremacy, The Kingdom, Jarhead, Seabiscuit, and Breach.

While most consider Cooper a great actor (myself included), it was very cool to hear him talk about how nervous he gets for each movie, and how he prepares for as long as he has the script.  But, that’s probably why he’s such a great actor, as he just doesn’t show up on set and try to wing it.  During the interview we also talk about promoting a film with a lot of secrets and a lot more on how he prepares as an actor.  Hit the jump to check it out:

Pierce Brosnan Video Interview REMEMBER ME and GHOST WRITER

by     Posted: March 10th, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Pierce Brosnan (3).jpgOver the last four years, I’ve had the good fortune to interview a number of actors and directors on camera.  Nowadays, I don’t get nervous.  Because if I start to stumble, I have a few safety questions tucked away that I can call upon in a jam.  So it was an interesting feeling walking in to speak with Pierce Brosnan, as it was the first time in awhile that I was a bit nervous.  After all, he played James Bond, and anyone who has been a Bond is part of a very elite club.

The reason I got to talk to Brosnan last week in NYC is he’s starring in both Remember Me and Ghost Writer for Summit Entertainment.  While he might have made both films for the same company, his parts are radically different as he plays Robert Pattinson’s dad in Remember Me and the former Prime Minister of Britain in Roman Polanski’s Ghost Writer.  While I only had a short time to discuss both parts, we managed to cover a lot of ground.  Hit the jump to check it out:

Director Allen Coulter and Screenwriter Will Fetters Video Interview REMEMBER ME

While talking to actors is always cool, if you want to know how a movie was made and what really went on behind the scenes, you’ve got to talk to the director.  Thankfully, both director Allen Coulter (Hollywoodland, many episodes of The Sopranos) and screenwriter Will Fetters had a lot to say about their movie Remember Me and they even told me what to expect on the eventual DVD release.  We also talked about the challenges of doing press for a movie that has a lot of twists and turns.  Hit the jump for more:

Emilie De Ravin Video Interview REMEMBER ME

Remember Me image - slice.jpg

Opening this Friday is the romantic drama Remember Me.  The movie stars Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin as two young lovers from different walks of life.  Here’s the synopsis:

Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young man in New York City who has had a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family. Tyler didn’t think anyone could possibly understand what he was going through, until the day he met Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through an unusual twist of fate. Love was the last thing on his mind, but as her spirit unexpectedly heals and inspires him, he begins to fall for her. Through their love, he begins to find happiness and meaning in his life. Soon, hidden secrets are revealed and tragedy lingers in the air, as the circumstances that brought them together threaten to tear them apart.

To help promote the film, I recently spoke to Emilie De Ravin.  We talked about how she came to the project, how does she talk about the movie without revealing too much info, filming in NYC, Lost, her next movie Legend of the Guardians, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to check it out:

Robert Pattinson Exclusive Video Interview REMEMBER ME

slice_remember_me_movie_image_robert_pattinson_01.jpg

Last week I got to interview Robert Pattinson for his new movie Remember Me.  Since he’s answered every possible question regarding the Twilight franchise and his other upcoming projects, what I decided to do was ask the people who follow me on Twitter to supply me with questions.  While I knew I’d get a few things to ask…I was not prepared for the amount of emails and tweets that would be sent my way.  I was blown away.

Since so many of you asked about certain things like would he do a commentary on the Remember Me DVD and what was up with his music, I didn’t single out any one person when I asked the questions.  Just know I read every single email and tweet you sent in.  Saying that, I mentioned who provided me with the first question, and we also talked about what he’d like to do if he had a free day in New York City and will he ever get into social networking.  If you’re a fan of Robert Pattinson, I’m confident you’ll like this interview as I made sure to ask a few things that haven’t previously been asked.  Take a look after the jump.  Remember Me opens this weekend:

REMEMBER ME Behind the Scenes Footage and a Robert Pattinson On Set Interview

by     Posted: March 1st, 2010 at 9:32 am

Remember Me image - slice.jpg

Summit Entertainment has provided us with a Robert Pattinson on set interview and a ton of behind the scenes footage from Remember Me.  While I generally don’t post studio provided interviews, I know how popular Robert Pattinson is, and the 9 minute interview isn’t online yet.

And regarding the behind the scenes footage…when a movie is filming, the studio will document the process and release what’s called B-Roll.  This is generally footage of the cast and crew working on location, or footage of the cast filming a scene. If you’re curious what being on a movie set is really like, you’ll enjoy the footage.  Remember Me stars Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, and Chris Cooper.  Allen Coulter directed the film and William Fetters wrote the script.  Hit the jump to check out the footage and interview:

Robert Pattinson Interview REMEMBER ME

Robert Pattinson (3).jpg

Yesterday I attended a roundtable interview with Robert Pattinson for his upcoming romantic drama Remember Me. I’m a new writer at Collider and it was my first time attending a press junket and participating in a roundtable interview.  Let’s just say it was an interesting experience. Anyway, in the coming days, expect more from the junket and I’ll also be contributing TV and film news.

Since Rob was there to talk about Remember Me, I was only able to get a small bit of information for you Twilight fans. But about Remember Me, Rob was very passionate about the film and seemed very eager to dive deep into his character, Tyler Hawkins. He spent a lot of time unfolding the elements of Tyler, and discovering how much he had in common with him.  Hit the jump for everything Rob had to say.  Remember Me gets released March 12.

8 Movie Clips from Robert Pattinson’s REMEMBER ME

by     Posted: February 28th, 2010 at 11:01 am

slice_remember_me_movie_image_robert_pattinson_01.jpg

With Robert Pattinson’s new movie Remember Me getting ready to open on March 12,  we’ve been provided with 8 clips from the film.  If you’re the type that loves watching as much footage before a movie comes out, you’ll love these clips.  Saying that, I always think movies are better knowing as little as possible, so if you can resist the urge, avoid watching them.  I just wanted to give you the option.

And while an embargo prevents me from saying too much about Remember Me, I think it’s safe to say I really enjoyed the movie. I walked in knowing nothing about story except who was in it, and the movie really drew me in and surprised me in a lot of ways.  The only thing I really want to stress to all of you is avoid every review and spoiler online.  If you know too much walking in, the twists and turns won’t mean as much to you.  I didn’t know anything in advance and am happy I had that experience.

REMEMBER ME Featurette Starring Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin

slice_remember_me_movie_image_robert_pattinson_01.jpg

A new featurette for Summit Entertainment’s Remember Me has been released.  Starring Robert Pattinson, Emilie De Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Lena Olin, Remember Me is a love story set in New York City.

While movie studios have been making deal after deal for Taylor Lautner, after Remember Me opens, the same might happen for Rob Pattinson.  This is the film that shows Hollywood if he’s a bankable leading man outside of Twilight.  I think he is.

Hit the jump to learn more about the film and watch the cast talk about working with Pattinson.
