Filming on the fourth Mad Max film, Mad Max: Fury Road, has been underway for a couple months now, but Kennedy Miller Mitchell Productions have now released an announcement that principal photography has begun.  These production start announcements usually don’t mean much except they usually contain the first synopsis for the movie, and this press release is no different.  We’ll also give the release a pass since Mad Max: Fury Road looked like it might never happen since it was constantly delayed, and the production hit a serious snag when their original location was hit with flooding and turned into an oasis, which doesn’t really lend itself to a post-apocalyptic wasteland.  Shooting is now taking place in Africa.

Hit the jump for the press release, which contains the synopsis along with the names of all the major roles (and there are some great character names).  Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy as the new Mad Max, and also stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Nathan Jones.

First Trailer for JACK AND DIANE Starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough

The first trailer for the tumultuous, horror love story Jack and Diane has been released.  The film stars Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Riley Keough (The Runaways) as two teenage girls who fall passionately in love and must come to terms with the ramifications of their feelings (ie. the affair causes changes in one of the girls’ body).  Judging solely from the trailer, the film seems to have a bit of a “Like Crazy on acid” vibe.  The handheld, intimate scenes between Temple and Keough are intercut with animated sequences that are apparently revealing what’s happening in Keough’s character’s body.  I’m fairly certain I saw a braid of hair twist around her insides, which I can only assume is a bad thing.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Directed by Bradley Rust Gray, the film also stars Cara Seymour and Kylie MinogueJack and Diane will be available on iTunes starting September 28th, and hits theaters on November 2nd.

The fourth installment features new additions Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Zoe Kravitz. 12 clips from director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper pic Magic Mike have been released.  The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum’s early days as a male stripper, and the actor stars as a stripping mentor to a young up-and-comer played by Alex Pettyfer.  With Soderbergh onboard, we can reasonably assume that this won’t simply be a straightforward, flashy stripper movie.  Early word has been strongly positive, and I’m eager to see what kind of story Soderbergh intends to tell against the backdrop of this kind of world.

A couple of new red-band clips for director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike have gone online.  Though there aren’t any gratuitous full-frontal shots, there’s plenty of shirtlessness, pantslessness and ass-shots to put the rest of us members of the male species to shame.  I’m beyond eager to see what Soderbergh has put together with this “stripper movie” and based on general buzz, the unofficial Year of Channing Tatum should continue full speed ahead on the heels of Magic Mike.

New Trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s MAGIC MIKE

A new UK trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike has gone online.  The film is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper, and the actor plays a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer.  Most of the first trailer focused squarely on Tatum’s character and his furniture-making skills, but this trailer shows us a lot more of the mentor/mentee relationship.  We also get some new looks at Matthew McConaughey, who is pitch-perfect as the nightclub’s ringleader.   I’m always down for a new Soderbergh project, and I’m eager to find out what he saw in Tatum’s story that he thought would make a great movie.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Riley Keough, Olivia Munn, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Cody Horn, and Adam RodriguezMagic Mike opens on June 29th.

New Trailer and Poster for THE GOOD DOCTOR Starring Orlando Bloom

by     Posted: May 14th, 2012 at 6:55 pm

the good doctor orlando bloom

Orlando Bloom is a charming guy, but I’ve always believed his on-screen persona suffered because his talent is always chasing his unbelievable beauty.  The Good Doctor may have found a way around that problem.  First, director Lance Daly gave him a flat haircut, downgrading his looks from A to A-.  Second, the lead character, “an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues,” is reserved and buttoned down.  So any perceived woodenness may well be in service of the performance.  The Good Doctor spent the last few months touring the festival circuit, receiving mostly good reviews and positive notices for Bloom’s performance.  A new trailer paints a vivid picture of the thriller, including some heavy lifting on Bloom’s part once “things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.”  If Bloom pulls that off, I’m eager to check it out.

Riley Keough, Rob Morrow, Taraji P. Henson, and Michael Peña also star.  The Good Doctor opens on August 31.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

First Trailer and Poster for MAGIC MIKE Starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey as Male Strippers

The first trailer and poster for director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike have gone online.  The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum‘s days as a male stripper, and the actor stars as a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer.   Though some may balk at the “Channing Tatum stripper movie”, this world actually looks like it could be a lot of fun through Soderbergh’s eyes.  The trailer opens with the easy sell, but once we get into the plot it’s obvious that there’s a bit more to Magic Mike than professional undressing.  Soderbergh isn’t one to do Step Up-type movie where every single plot beat is predictable and groan-worthy (which this movie could easily have been), so I’m interested to see what drew him to this story.  Moreover, Matthew McConaughey appears to be having a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to watching him steal every scene he’s in.

Warner Bros. has released the first official image and synopsis for director Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper movie, Magic Mike.  The film stars the perpetually shirtless Matthew McConaughey along with Alex Pettyfer, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Mangianello, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Cody Horn, and Adam Rodriguez.  For those unaware, Magic Mike is based on Tatum’s real life experiences as a 19-year-old stripper, and tells “a story of friendship set in the world of male strippers.” Here’s what Soderbergh had to say about the project:

“When Channing talked to me about this, I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie. I said I wanted in immediately. It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using Saturday Night Fever as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track.”

Joe Manganiello, Jessica Biel and Riley Keough Join Steven Soderbergh’s MAGIC MIKE [Updated]

In an effort to make every man’s girlfriend resent him, director Steven Soderbergh has been filling the cast of his male stripper movie Magic Mike with way too good-looking guys left and right. Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and recent addition Matt Bomer currently make up the “are you kidding me?” cast, and now three more names have been added: Joe Manganiello, Jessica Biel and Riley Keough.

EW reports that True Blood star Manganiello will play a stripper named “Big Dick Ritchie” (but of course) in the semi-biographical film about Tatum’s teenage days as a male stripper. Lest the cast be too dude-heavy, E! Online reports that Riley Keough (The Runaways) will play a girl who dates Pettyfer’s character, an up-and-coming stripper, and ComingSoon reports that Jessica Biel has signed on to play a stripper named Amber who also happens to be Manganiello’s squeeze. Filming begins next month in Florida, where I’m sure the cast will remain fully-clothed for the bulk of the movie.

[Update: Variety's Justin Kroll tweeted that he's been told Biel has passed on the role, so file her casting under rumor for now.]

SNOW WHITE Casting: Julia Roberts, Michael Fassbender, and Shortlist to Play Snow White

Two competing  Snow White re-imaginings — Relativity Media’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White and Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman — have sparked casting rumors for a few months now.  Back in October, Tom Hardy (Inception) was rumored to play Eric the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman with Charlize Theron set to star as the Snow White’s evil stepmother.  Meanwhile, Relativity was circling Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Anne Hathaway for The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

New casting rumors have surfaced for both films tonight.  One links Julia Roberts to The Brothers Grimm.  The other links Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) to Huntsman and reveals Universal’s shortlist to play Snow White: Riley Keough (The Runaways), Felicity Jones (The Tempest), Bella Heathcoat (Neighbours), and Alicia Vikander (Beloved).  Details after the jump.
