In last week’s “Top 5″ I spent the opening paragraph musing about my anticipation for Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire. I also promised the readers a quick “Before & After” discussion this week which would address whether or not the pic lived up to my expectations. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but said discussion will have to be postponed. I know, I know, I’m disappointed too. Fear not, though, I’m slated to check out the film tonight which means that I’ll be able to deliver on my promise, albeit a week late. In the meantime…

…This week’s “Top 5″ installment brings you interviews with the cast of Underworld: Awakening and the aforementioned Haywire, a gallery of recent films in retro poster form, an ultra-disturbing Rugrats live-action trailer, and all of our Sundance 2012 coverage to date. If you grew up in the 90s, odds are you spent countless hours enjoying the glorious original programming of Nickelodeon. While shows like The Adventures of Pete and Pete and Salute Your Shorts were definitely staples of my sophisticated Nickelodeon line-up, Rugrats was my rock. The animated series provided a goofy—and at times incredibly odd—look at life through the eyes of a group of toddlers. The loveable characters made for can’t-miss TV, and now Funny or Die has put together a rather disturbing trailer for a live-action version of the show.

The trailer takes the Requiem for a Dream approach with Rugrats and turns them all into psychopaths. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Parenthood star Mae Whitman plays Angelica (obviously), and she’s joined by Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Michael Angarano (Almost Famous, Red State), and Whitman’s Parenthood co-star Sarah Ramos. As a child of the 90′s, I have fond memories of lounging around my room and watching non-stop Nickelodeon. Though many of my favorite shows like Rocko’s Modern Life, Doug and more have made it to DVD, some of these shows still aren’t easily available for nostalgic viewing. Well, that changes today as EW reports Nickelodeon is in the midst of establishing a late night block of programming on TeenNick to help kids at heart like myself journey back to the 90′s with all their favorite shows.

The titles mentioned include but may not be limited to Rugrats, Clarissa Explains It All, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, All That, Kenan & Kel and The Amanda Bynes Show. Though I’d like to see a little more Nicktoon action in the line-up, this is a great start to the programming block which is being dubbed The 90′s Are All That. You’ll be able to catch these reruns sometime this fall between midnight and 2am. ” Keith Dawkins, senior VP and general manager of TeenNick, said, “At the time, we were completely devoted to that audience ages 9, 10, and 11. It was ground-breaking and for the young viewers, a powerful and pivotal time in their lives. Those kids who are now 22, 23 and 24 want to bring that back.” I really can’t wait.
