Debut images from a pair of upcoming films being shopped at Cannes have been officially unveiled.  Firstly, the How to Make Love to An Englishman image reveals star Pierce Brosnan in the “sexually charged and sophisticated romantic comedy” from director Tom Vaughn (What Happens in Vegas).  Brosnan plays a Cambridge University professor who meets his match in Salma Hayek, but is forced to face the music when a complicated romantic entanglement emerges with her graduate student stepsister, played by Jessica Alba.  The film is currently in post-production but doesn’t yet have a release date.

Additionally, the first Your Right Mind image highlights star Katherine Heigl as a former country singer fighting for custody of her daughter.  Ami Canaan Mann (Texas Killing Fields) directs the contemporary romance, which stars Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) as a traveling folk singer who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Hegil’s character.  The film also stars Clea DuVaal, Sheryl Lee, Emily Alyn Lind, and Ryan Bingham.  Check out both first-look images after the jump.

Writer Evan Goldberg and Executive Producer James Weaver Talk R-Rated Animated Film SAUSAGE PARTY; Pixar Movies Will Get “Ripped Apart”

Sausage-Party-movie-details-Evan-Goldberg-James-Weaver

We rarely get R-rated animated films, and while that’s a shame, it’s also understandable.  In addition to the genre always being considered as something for kids, the cost of animation also means it needs to bring in the widest audience possible, i.e. families.  But the upcoming animated comedy Sausage Party sounds like it will be anything but family-friendly.  Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) and Greg Tiernan, the story follows a group of supermarket foods trying to get back on their shelves before the biggest shopping day of the year, the 4th of July.  Their Lord of the Rings-type quest has them considering the great beyond, the meaning of their existence, and trying to fuck buns.

During the press day for Neighbors, Steve spoke with Goldberg and executive producer James Weaver about Sausage Party, and learned that their movie isn’t just coasting on being animated and R-rated.  It has a very specific target: Pixar and Disney movies.  Hit the jump to learn more about the film including details about the plot, the characters, and more.  The film is due out in 2015 and features the voices of Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, David Krumholtz, Anders Holm, and Salma Hayek.

Disney has released a new trailer for director James Bobin‘s upcoming sequel Muppets Most Wanted.  In the follow-up, the gang is on a successful tour in Europe but gets into trouble when Kermit gets confused with his jewel-heisting doppelganger, Constantine. I really enjoyed 2011′s The Muppets, but almost everything I’m seeing from this sequel is doing nothing for me.  It’s not a bad premise, and it’s amusing to see Constantine try to impersonate Kermit, but it’s still a fairly tired plot and there’s almost none of the irreverence or wackiness I’d expect to see from a Muppet movie.  Here’s hoping it’s just a bad trailer and not a bad movie.

Hit the jump check out the new trailer and images, and find out about some of the cameos.  The film stars Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell.  Muppets Most Wanted opens March 21, 2014.

Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for director Dennis Dugan’s comedy sequel Grown Ups 2.  I hate myself for saying this, but I actually got a few chuckles out of the trailer.  After you get past the deer piss, there are a couple of ridiculous cameos from Shaquille O’Neal and Andy Samberg that are nice throwbacks to the zany Adam Sandler movies of old.  There’s also a nice flip on the “hot girl car trouble” scene from the first film.  And believe it or not, this might be a role that Lautner was Taylor-made for (sorry).

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars also Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Nick Swardson and Patrick SchwarzeneggerGrown Ups 2 opens on July 12th.

Epic 8-Minute Trailer for Jimmy Kimmel’s MOVIE: THE MOVIE 2V Starring Everyone in Hollywood

Every year, Jimmy Kimmel Live follows the Oscars with a star-studded sketch.  Last year, audiences were treated to a trailer for Movie: The Movie, which featured dozens of movie stars parodying every film genre and cliché.  Naturally, every hit needs a sequel, and JKL has delivered with Movie: The Movie 2V.  I’ll let you be the judge between which trailer is better, but I would say the sequel surpasses the original when it comes to the obligatory Matt Damon joke.

SAVAGES Blu-ray Review

Oliver Stone has always hit home runs controversially and commercially, but lately he’s been striking out critically. Savages, which came out back in July, is a break from Stone’s controversial oeuvre. Revolving around a drug cartel kidnapping and an unlikely friendship, Savages is one well-crafted, sexy-ass slugfest. It’s more U-Turn Stone than W. (I have no idea what Wall-Street: Money Never Sleeps was supposed to be) and despite its mediocre run in theaters (nothing this summer fared well in the shadow of The Avengers), it was one of the most entertaining films of summer 2012. TOP 5: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, JACK REACHER, Most Anticipated July to September Movies, SAVAGES, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

As much as I enjoy film, my first entertainment love will always be music. As such, this weekend finds me in Chicago in anticipation of what could be my final Warped Tour appearance. That’s right, I’m a 26 year-old man (I use the term “man” lightly, of course) who still finds immense joy in the pop-punk genre. Nevertheless, it’s becoming harder and harder for my oldness to blend in with a predominantly sub-18 crowd without looking like a total creep and, therefore, today may very well be my last Warped experience. On the bright side, I still have XBox Live to remind me that I’ve never completely grown up.

Maturity issues aside, on tap in this week’s version of the Top 5 is a slew of interviews for The Amazing Spider-Man, the first trailer and new images for Tom Cruise‘s Jack Reacher, our most anticipated movies from July to September, Savages interviews with Oliver Stone, Blake Lively, etc., and more The Dark Knight Rises coverage than most humans are capable of comprehending. Links and brief recaps for each reside after the break.

SAVAGES Review

review-savages-movie-clips-slice

A wise man once said*, “If you have them in the first fifteen minutes, you have a movie.  If you have them in the last fifteen minutes, you have a hit.”  By that metric, Oliver Stone‘s Savages is neither a movie nor a hit.  It begins with an atrocious first act full of flat expository narration including one of the worst lines of dialogue I’ve ever heard: “I have orgasms.  He has wargasms.”  That’s a deep hole to dig out of, but Savages manages to do so with a strong, thoughtful, exciting middle section that explore where people derive their power.  And then the movie falls apart with an ending that erases all the hard work the film had accomplished.

At the film’s press day, actor Aaron Johnson spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how Oliver Stone wanted him for the film but didn’t immediately know for which role, how he enjoyed being challenged by the director, and the journey he went on with co-star Taylor Kitsch.  He also talked about the type of roles he wants to play, having read the Kick-Ass 2 script, which he says is definitely a hard R and that he expects will go into production in the Fall, and he addressed the recent statement that American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis made on Twitter about how he would be a good choice for the male lead in the film adaptation of the much-talked-about erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.
