This August, TNT will premiere an intense new series from the producers of Homeland, centered around the FBI’s elite Deep Cover Operations (DCO) division. Based on the book by spy novelist Robert Little, Legends stars Sean Bean as FBI agent Martin Odum, a specialist who can transform himself into anyone he needs to be. His alternate identities, called “legends,” are so complex and thoroughly established that they almost take on lives of their own. The show also stars Ali Larter as a fellow operative who has a history with Martin, Tina Majorino as technical expert Maggie Pool, and Morris Chestnut as another agent investigating Martin’s involvement in a murder case.
The cast made an appearance at WonderCon last weekend, along with showrunner David Wilcox (Fringe), to talk about what audiences can expect from the show and, naturally, whether the infamously death-prone (on screen, at least) Bean will actually make it to the end of the first season. Premiering August 13th on TNT is Legends, a new espionage thriller developed for TV by three-time Emmy award winner Howard Gordon (24, Homeland). Legends stars Sean Bean as Martin Odum, an exceptional deep-cover operative in the FBI. Every persona Martin assumes becomes one of his “legends”, and Martin has an extraordinary empathy that allows him to move in and out of these personas with ease, but when a stranger calls into question everything he believes, Martin begins to wonder if his entire identity is merely another construct of the FBI.
Bean joined cast mates Ali Larter, Tina Majorino, and Morris Chestnut, and Showrunner/Executive Producer David Wilcox on stage at WonderCon this weekend to preview a couple clips and discuss what audiences can expect from the new espionage thriller. Check out a full Legends WonderCon panel recap after the jump, which includes my rundown of the footage and bullet point highlights from the panel conversation.
Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures have released a fantastic new trailer for The Matrix Trilogy and Cloud Atlas writers/directors Lana and Andy Wachowski’s original sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending. The story follows Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), a recent Russian immigrant who scrubs toilets for a living, but then discovers she has the genetic signature that makes her next in line to be Queen of the Universe. Channing Tatum plays an ex-military half-werewolf half-albino hunter tasked with tracking her down. One thing is abundantly clear from this new trailer: the scope of Jupiter Ascending is positively epic. The Wachowski siblings appear to have gone all-out with this sci-fi pic, and the result is an ambitious, colorful, and massive world that looks like a whole lot of fun. Eddie Redmayne feels almost Shakespearean as the villain, and I’m incredibly impressed by just how big and other-worldly this thing is.
Hit the jump to watch the new trailer. The film also stars Sean Bean, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, James D’Arcy, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Doona Bae. Jupiter Ascending opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 18th.
Warner Bros. has released an international trailer for the Wachowski Siblings‘ upcoming sci-fi adventure film, Jupiter Ascending. The story follows Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), a recent Russian immigrant who scrubs toilets for a living, but then discovers she has the genetic signature that makes her next in line to be Queen of the Universe. Channing Tatum plays an ex-military hunter tasked with tracking her down. The movie looking like it will be a lot of fun, and it’s also exciting to see a non-adaptation as part of the summer blockbuster season. That probably means fewer people will see it because it hasn’t been pre-sold to them in some other form, but personally, I’m just glad to be getting a new Wachowskis movie this year.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, James D’Arcy, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Doona Bae. Jupiter Ascending opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 18th.
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Lana and Andy Wachowski’s upcoming sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending. The film follows Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), a recent Russian immigrant who has to scrub toilets for a living, but then discovers she has the genetic signature that makes her next in line to be Queen of the Universe. Channing Tatum co-stars as a genetically engineered ex-military hunter who must track her down. Judging from this trailer, one thing is abundantly clear about Jupiter Ascending: this is the Wachowskis going 100%, full-blown sci-fi. Coming off the philosophical (and excellent) Cloud Atlas, this film appears to be something a bit more in the vein of The Matrix for the Wachowskis in that it appears to be lighter and a bit more adventurous in spirit. The world building on display in this trailer is nuts, and though the footage is indeed very out-there, I have a feeling once audiences settle in to the JA universe it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

Sometimes buying a Blu-ray is worth the price simply to have a favorite movie on hand for repeat viewings. Occasionally, if the film wasn’t quite as strong as you would have hoped during its theatrical release, the extras on the Blu-ray make a purchase worthwhile because they elucidate the film’s production through additional features such as a director’s cut or commentary and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Unfortunately, the Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Blu-ray boasts neither an enjoyable feature nor worthwhile bonus material. Hit the jump for my review.
Directors Lana and Andy Wachowski are gearing up to begin production on the sci-fi pic Jupiter Ascending, and some Game of Thrones royalty has now joined the cast. The story “is set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe.” Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are already set as the leads with Eddie Redmayne also poised to star, and now Deadline reports that Sean Bean has joined the cast. Bean will play a character named Stinger who is described as a Han Solo-type, and he should add some “gruff” to the cast that’s been assembled thus far. Bean is a fine actor and I’m eager to see him play around in the sci-fi realm, but I guess it’s time to start taking bets on how long his character will last in the film before dying.
We’ve got a couple of TV-related casting stories to share this morning. First up, Sean Bean has signed on to replace Brendan Fraser as the lead in TNT’s espionage pilot Legends. The series is based on a novel by Robert Littell and follows a former CIA operative now acting as a private detective who has the unique ability to turn himself into a different person for each assignment. Fraser exited the project after he and showrunner Howard Gordon didn’t see eye to eye on how to approach the lead character, and now Variety reports that Bean is stepping into the lead role.
Bean’s characters have a tendency to, well, die unexpectedly, but I think he’s safe here as he’ll be toplining the series (at least I hope…). Legends is one of a number of new projects 24 veteran Gordon is spearheading following the immense success of his Showtime series Homeland. Well, today is the day for supernatural sequel clips it seems, because we have two to share with you. First up from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, this new clip features newly-turned vampire, Bella (Kristen Stewart) arm wrestling against Emmett (Kellan Lutz). They amazingly assembled everything about this property that sets my teeth on edge (bad dialogue, terrible make-up, impromptu musical cues, etc) into one concise clip. Directed by Bill Condon, the film also stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Mackenzie Foy, Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser and Jackson Rathbone. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th.
We’ve also got a clip from Michael J. Bassett’s Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. This one centers on Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) calling her father (Sean Bean) in fear that someone is following her. He gives her some sage fatherly advice and then OH NO LOOK OUT SEAN BEAN! The film opens on October 26th. Hit the jump to watch the clips
We’ve got an exclusive new TV spot for the upcoming Silent Hill: Revelation 3D to share with our readers today. The film is a sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, and centers on a daughter and father who are on the run from dangerous forces that remain unknown to the young girl. When her father (Sean Bean) goes missing, the young girl (Adelaide Clemens) must set out to discover what happened. When she becomes trapped in a demonic world, the girl learns she’s not who she thinks she is.

As far as horror survival game adaptations go, it’s easy to see that Resident Evil has proven more successful than Silent Hill; that won’t stop a sequel to the 2006 horror thriller from coming out later this month. Director Michael J. Bassett’s Silent Hill: Revelation 3D follows nearly-18-year-old Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) as they attempt to escape the living nightmares that plague them. When her father disappears (and for Bean, disappearing > dead), Heather becomes trapped in a demonic world and learns she’s not who she thinks she is.
Silent Hill: Revelation 3D also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell and Kit Harington, and opens October 26th. Hit the jump to see the posters.
The first theatrical trailer for Silent Hill: Revelation 3D has been released. The film is a sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, and centers on a daughter and father who are on the run from dangerous forces that remain unknown to the young girl. When her father goes missing, the young girl (Adelaide Clemens) must set out to discover what happened. I’m not familiar with the video game series or the first film, but Game of Thrones fans might get a kick out of seeing Sean Bean and a clean-shaven Kit Harington. The pic also looks to have some interesting creature design, and it’s obvious from the footage that the 3D will be put to heavy use.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed it you can watch the first clip from the film right here. The pic also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcolm McDowell, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, and Martin Donovan. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D opens on October 26th, 2012.
Let’s start the day with some casting, shall we? Here are the headlines:
- Elizabeth Banks will topline What’s the Matter with Margie?, a dark comedy from Alan Ball.
- Alfred Molina and Freida Pinto are set to star in Desert Dancer, based on the life of Iranian dancer, Afshin Ghaffarian.
- Sean Bean will join The 4th Reich, an action-horror film set in World War II.
Hit the jump for more on both projects.
