When it comes to boxed sets, the James Bond franchise faces a fascinating dilemma. Unlike Star Wars or Harry Potter, which have viable endings – or even Star Trek, which can be broken down into identifiable “phases” – Bond lacks any sense of closure. You could divide it up by actors, but that leaves some sets with up to seven movies and others with only one or two. You could go by era, but that, too, proves rather messy. And as for completion… this franchise can (and probably will) bury us all. So how do you pick up a “complete” set, knowing that you’ll just have to add to it in a couple of years?

The 50^th anniversary of the franchise provides as good an opportunity as any to pick up a “definitive” collection, and the studio makes sure that the effort is worth it. Little about the set is new or different, but the simple fact of holding all 22 Bond films in Blu-ray form is enough to make most film geeks cackle with glee. We’re happy to debut some new images from the upcoming James Bond documentary Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007.  Directed by Steven Ridley (Fired in Babylon), the film focuses on how producer Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman, and author Ian Fleming created one of the most iconic and longest running film franchises in history.  The doc includes interviews with many of the Bonds, and these images offer a revealing behind-the-scenes glimpse at a few of the films.

Classic films are getting remade left and right, but what if it went the other way?  What if our original films of recent years were thrown back to an earlier era?  Who would star?  Who would direct?  What would the poster look like?  Artist Peter Stults ran with that idea and came up with some wonderfully creative and thoughtful posters based on recent movies.  I’m not sure if I see Leonard Nimoy as John McClane, but I can absolutely see James Dean starring in a 1950s version of Drive.

Back in November, we first introduced you to Sean Connery’s animated-film Sir Billi.  At this point, Matt’s thesis was that the premise sounded “batshit insane.” In April, Matt also brought you the first images from the film.  By then, he had modified his theory saying that “the movie sounds like someone came up with it while enjoying every drug ever made.”  Today, seven long months after the initial news on the film, the trailer for the film has appeared online and, I must admit, I am proud to carry on Matt’s work by claiming that the film looks like it may be Sean Connery’s (he voices the title character, an 80s something, skateboard-wielding, retired veterinarian) way of telling the world that his career is over and he just couldn’t give a damn less anymore.

With all of this in mind, if you are in need of a great laugh because the “Ke$ha / Star Trek” video is starting to lose its luster, hit the jump to watch what may be one of the funniest 2:45 you will spend for quite some time.

The first images from Sir Billi, the animated film featuring the voice of Sean Connery, have arrived online.  As we reported back November, the movie sounds like someone came up with it while enjoying every drug ever made: “The movie centers on a retired, skateboarding veterinarian who lives in a remote Scottish village and who spearheads the rescue of an illegal fugitive who also happens to be a beaver.”  At the time, part of me thought, “That can’t possibly be right.”  Who would make that?  Sean Connery would make that.  He’s a producer on the film who has been instrumental in getting it made.*  It’s also the first film he’s done since 2003′s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

You can see the images after the jump and keep in mind that indie feature animated films don’t have the money of studios like DreamWorks or Pixar.  But what you really want to see after the jump is the full press release with the detailed synopsis because it makes the story seem even crazier.  It’s like Connery thought to himself, “You know, maybe I can outdo Zardoz…”

Sean Connery hasn’t made a film since 2003′s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because apparently he wanted to go out on the lowest note possible.  However, Connery is making a semi-return as he’s voicing the lead character in the animated film, Sir Billi.  Connery is a producer on the project and has been heavily involved with its production.  Today, THR reports that Shirley Bassey, who wrote the famous theme song of the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, will sing the title song of Sir Billi, “Guardian of the Highlands.”  Sean Connery helping to shepherd this indie animated feature through production and getting a legend like Shirley Bassey to sing the theme is all really positive and I’m glad to hear of his contributions.  So what’s this movie about?  From THR:  The movie centers on a retired, skateboarding veterinarian who lives in a remote Scottish village and who spearheads the rescue of an illegal fugitive who also happens to be a beaver.

That sounds batshit insane.

“Highlander” is such a delightfully silly movie.  Christopher Lambert’s Swiss accent, original songs by Queen, Clancy Brown decapitating folks as he makes his way through the story, and Sean Connery all make for a movie that is cheesy 80s action but through a camp-fantasy filter.  You can’t really call it a “franchise” because that implies that anything after the first film was successful.  The biggest success following “Highlander” was that the title of the sequel had the sub-title, “The Quickening”.

And now “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin wants to remake it.  Hit the jump to read the full press release and why this remake could work but not because of Justin Lin.
