Marvel has sent out a press release announcing that filming has begun on Joe and Anthony Russo‘s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  Few details about the film are known, but the press release provides a brief yet informative logline: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.”  That’s a lot of new information, including the large role for Black Widow, and the setting, although we know there will be flashbacks to World War II.  Also, for those who don’t know, the “shadowy enemy” is the eponymous Winter Soldier, a.k.a. Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).  The press release also confirms our earlier report that Hayley Atwell will return to play Peggy Carter.

THE APPARITION Blu-ray Review

Hey, remember The Apparition? It’s okay if you don’t. The film snuck into theaters at the end of August, looking all slick and spooky, managed to con $9 mil worth of suckers into seeing it, and quickly faded away. From the script to the screen, The Apparition offered absolutely nothing new to the genre and didn’t bring anything exciting to its tried and true tropes. The best that can be said is “at least it’s not found footage.” So why bother with a review of the Warner Bros.’ Blu-ray? Because the special features are more entertaining than the movie. Find out why after the jump…

Chris Evans previously revealed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier would start filming in March of 2013 and now we know where to look for him.  It looks like the Cap sequel will return to where The Avengers spent a lot of its time filming: Cleveland, Ohio.  It’ll be a trip home for Cleveland natives Joe and Anthony Russo, who just so happen to be directing the film. The press release loosely confirms parts of the sequel’s expected plot, saying it picks up where “The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.”  Hit the jump to see where else Captain America: The Winter Soldier will film next year.

Chris Evans Says CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Starts Filming March 2013

With production underway on Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, we’re already starting to see some set photos featuring the triumphant return of Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian god.  Next on Marvel’s docket after Thor 2 is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Chris Evans recently revealed to Steve exactly when that film starts shooting:

That puts the film on roughly the same 13-month production timeline as the first Captain America, so directors Anthony and Joe Russo shouldn’t have a problem making the film’s April 4th, 2014 release date.  Hit the jump for a refresher on what we know so far about the follow-up.

Sebastian Stan Talks About the Creature, Psychological Thriller vs. Horror, and the Phillip Experiment on the Set of THE APPARITION

In the horror thriller The Apparition, opening in theaters on August 24th, frightening events start to occur in the home shared by young couple, Kelly (The Twilight Saga’s Ashley Greene) and Ben (Political Animals stars Sebastian Stan).  They discover that they are being haunted by a presence that was accidentally conjured during a university parapsychology experiment when the horrifying apparition feeds on their fear and torments them no matter where they try to run.

A while back, Collider was invited to participate in a set visit for the film, where actor Sebastian Stan took some time to talk to the handful of outlets that were there for the shoot.  During the interview, he spoke about how his character fits into the story, the experiment that sets the events of the film in motion, the fact that this is more psychological thriller than horror film, how director Todd Lincoln had very specific movies that he wanted the actors to watch, and revealed that the creature itself is not clearly defined, but very scary.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

First Trailer for THE APPARITION [Updated with Poster]

The first trailer for the horror film The Apparition has arrived.  The trailer begins by explaining that ghosts only exist because we believe in them, then shows a group of scientists who test said theory by trying to conjure a ghost themselves.  They apparently succeed, but I’m confused as to how the film is supposed to be scary when we’re told up front that everything is a product of the characters’ imagination.  The trailer shows a physical presence disturbing the characters, but this seems to be a misapplication of the “science” that the film is supposedly using to ground the film in reality.  The pic mixes traditional narrative with found footage (oh boy!), and I really can’t say this trailer did anything for me.

We’ve got a few high resolution images from the musical Rock of Ages and the horror flick The Apparition to share this afternoon.  Directed by Adam Shankman, Rock of Ages stars Julianne Hough as a small-town girl with big dreams who falls for a rock star (Tom Cruise).  The musical is full of 1980s hits and features a pretty impressive ensemble cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Diego Boneta, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Paul Giamatti.  The film opens on June 15th.

Additionally, The Apparition centers on a young couple played by Ashley Green (Twilight) and Sebastian Stan (Captain America) who accidentally conjure a terrifying apparition that feeds on their fear.  Naturally, they turn to Harry Potter’s Tom Felton to help them get rid of the dastardly creature.  These images confirm that Greene is, in fact, very good looking. The film opens on August 24th.

First Trailer for Thriller GONE Starring Amanda Seyfried

The first trailer for the thriller Gone has been released. The film stars Amanda Seyfried as a young woman who suspects that her missing sister has been abducted by the same serial killer who kidnapped her two years prior. The trailer’s actually not bad, as it sets up the movie almost as a revenge flick with the authorities refusing to believe Seyfried’s story. The young woman decides to set out on her own to track down the killer in order to free her sister. The pic looks like it could be a pretty intense little thriller in the vein of Minority Report.

Back in March we learned that Ridley and Tony Scott would be producing a mini-series adaptation of Kate Mosse’s best-selling novel Labyrinth, and now we finally have word on the cast coming together for the project. THR reports John Hurt (V for Vendetta) has just signed on to star in the project with Sebastian Stan of (Captain America: The First Avenger), Katie McGrath (Syfy’s Merlin) Emun Elliott (Game of Thrones) also signed on along with British actors Janet Suzman (Nicholas and Alexandria), Jessica Brown-Findlay (Downton Abbey), Vanessa Kirby (The Hour) and Italian actress Claudia Gerini (The Passion of the Christ). That’s an interesting assembly of talent for a mini-series that will likely get attention come Emmy time next year. The project is in the hands of director Christopher Smith (Black Death) working from a script by Primeval writer Adrian Hodges, and production is slated to begin in France next month. The international poster for Captain America: The First Avenger has gone online.  It’s not a bad poster.  You’ve got the shield, you’ve got the Howling Commandos, and you’ve got a giant Red Skull in the background and if the characters in the foreground simply turned around, they’d have a real shot at winning the war.

The final theatrical trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger has landed online. While there is a lot to like about the cut, my favorite aspect is that it does a really nice job of setting up pre-super soldier Steve Rogers as someone who simply wants it more than other, more physically gifted, soldiers. I’m also looking forward to seeing the dynamic between Tommy Lee Jones’ Colonel Chester Phillips and Rogers play out in the pic as the “He’s still skinny” line you’ll hear in the trailer actually made me laugh out loud. Hit the jump to watch the trailer and, if you haven’t already, make sure you check out the fantastic new poster that was released earlier today.

Directed by Joe Johnston, the film stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving. Captain America: The First Avenger opens in 3D on July 22, 2011.
