Guillermo del Toro Talks PACIFIC RIM Soundtrack and Collectables

Guillermo-del-Toro-Pacific-Rim-interview-slice

As most of you know, I recently did an epic hour-long video interview with director Guillermo del Toro, and over the past week I’ve been breaking it down into smaller segments. For today’s installment, del Toro talks about the soundtrack of Pacific Rim, the collectables we can expect next year, and reveals he paid for his own set of productionmaquettes for his personal collection.

If you’re a fan of Ramin Djawadi (who’s done the soundtracks for Prison BreakIron Man and Game of Thrones), he’s going to be scoring Pacific Rim and del Toro seems really happy with what he’s heard thus far.  And for fans of Sideshow Collectibles and Gentle Giant, del Toro pretty much confirms we’ll be getting very cool collectibles based on Pacific Rim next year.  I can’t wait to see the different robots (Jaegers) and monsters (Kaiju) as huge collectibles.  Hit the jump for today’s installment and look for more with del Toro tomorrow night.

Geek Gifts: Hot Toys THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM Figures

by     Posted: June 28th, 2012 at 5:50 pm

Some pretty damn cool-looking collectible figures are now on sale for The Amazing Spider-Man and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, and we’ve got a batch of images from both.  These figures come from Hot Toys, the same company that put out that incredibly life-like Joker collectible from The Dark Knight and they also did Loki from The Avengers.  There’s really not much to the Spidey collectible besides some webshooting and crouched stances, but the Wolf Predator Polystone Statue is pretty neat.  The terrifying hunter carries a trophy from his prey in one image, and shows off his deadly chompers in another.

Exhibitors Hall Floor Map for 2011 San Diego Comic-Con

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to get crushed by tens of thousands of people?  Then you may want to walk (or attempt to walk) the Exhibitors’ Hall at Comic-Con.  Despite the seeming chaos of the hall, there is actually a method to the madness.  Major companies get the center (except for video game companies which get their own corner), artists are shunted as far off to the side as possible, and most of the sellers inhabit one-half of the hall.

But where the crush truly happens is at the insane lines circling the major companies as fans line up for swag and autographs.  The usual suspects are all here: DC Comics, Marvel, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Mattel, LucasFilm, CBS/Showtime, Lionsgate, Hasbro, and Sideshow Collectibles.  I’m not sure why Square-Enix gets such a large booth considering everything they make nowadays is crap.  Hit the jump to check out the full map.  The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 21 – 24th.

Geek Gifts: Hot Toys Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN 12-Inch Figure

by     Posted: May 27th, 2011 at 3:22 am

While it’s been awhile since we’ve done a Geek Gifts, when I saw the Christopher Reeve Superman 12-inch figure by Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles, I knew we had to bring it back.  According to the press release, “the movie-accurate Superman collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Christopher Reeve as The Man of Steel, highlighting the authentic head sculpt, movie-accurate costume and detailed light-up figure stage imitating the Fortress of Solitude.”

As you can tell by the images, the figure looks amazing.  Hit the jump for a lot more info on the figure.

100 Pictures from Comic-Con 2010; Check Out the Convention Floor, Booth Babes, Toys, Movie Posters, Movie Props, and a Lot More!

by     Posted: July 25th, 2010 at 10:32 pm

Every year at Comic-Con, the convention floor is sensory overload.  You’ve got thousands of people walking around trying to take everything in. Some are trying to buy convention exclusives, others are trying to get autographs and meet celebrities, and the rest are there for a myriad of reasons.  Comic-Con has definitely become a melting pot of pop culture and if you’re into movies, TV, comic books, toys, anime, and almost anything that can be collected, it’s located in San Diego in late July.  While the show has grown bigger than the Convention Center can hold (which is why some events are now offsite at other hotels) it’s an amazing show and something you have to experience for yourself.

Since many of you have never been to Comic-Con, I decided to take a ton of photos of the Convention Floor and some of the cool things taking place outside on the street.  So if you’re into everything I mentioned above, you’re going to love the 100 pictures after the jump.

Exclusive: Director Neill Blomkamp Video Interview DISTRICT 9

by     Posted: August 10th, 2009 at 4:57 pm

Neill Blomkamp image.jpg

“District 9″ is one of those films…the less you know the better. So let me say to everyone reading this, if you’d like to see a great sci-fi movie, something that’s new, original, and fresh, go see “District 9″ this weekend. Don’t ask people what it’s about. Don’t go reading the reviews. Just buy a ticket and see it. I promise you’ll love the movie and you’ll be so happy you didn’t know anything beforehand. That’s how I saw it and it was amazing.

Of course not everyone feels this way. Some people don’t care what they find out in advance and they actually want to learn as much as they can before they see a movie. So while I’d love to post this exclusive interview I did with director Neill Blomkamp after “District 9″ had opened, I realize the reason he did press was to get people into the theater this weekend. So after the jump is a great conversation with Neill and he explains why he got into making movies, the marketing of “District 9″, making the film, the style, what will be on the DVD/Blu-ray, would he go back to “Halo” if he was asked, Comic-Con, and a lot more. Take a look:
