How about a little a cappella with your beer and BBQ this 4th of July?  The sequel to the fall 2012 hit, Pitch Perfect, is still over 10 months away, but two Treblemakers took a moment to indulge us with some sweet, sweet harmony in honor of the holiday.  The boys had a habit of stealing the spotlight from the Barden Bellas in the first film and now with Jesse (Skylar Astin) and Benji (Ben Platt) leading the group, there’s no doubt the same will be true in round two.

Adam DeVine is back as Bumper in Pitch Perfect 2, but it’s hard to imagine him going right back to being Treblemaker #1 after ditching the guys for John Mayer, and especially after Jesse and Benji got the chance to show off their skills, too.  Longing for a little of that magic?  Hit the jump to catch the Pitch Perfect 2 video of Astin and Platt singing “America the Beautiful” a cappella.

While Rebel Wilson’s hosting gig at the MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday may not have been a hit with everyone, her performance with fellow Pitch Perfect cast members must have struck a chord.  Universal announced today during its presentation at CinemaCon that sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit is now in development for a planned 2015 release, and original writer Kay Cannon (30 Rock) is back on board as well.  Pitch Perfect focused on the world of collegiate a capella groups, detailing the struggles of an all-female group, the Barden Bellas, who desperately want to redeem themselves at the national championships.

The cast featured Wilson, Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Skylar Astin, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hanna Mae Lee, and Ben Platt.  No word on if the entire cast, director Jason Moore, or producer and cast member Elizabeth Banks are returning, but as development progresses, we can expect those announcements to be released.  Hit the jump for more.

Skylar-Astin-Sarah-Wright-21-and-over-interview-slice

Opening this weekend is 21 and Over, a new alcohol-drenched frat house comedy that marks the directing debut of The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. In the film, three high school buddies reunite to celebrate the youngest’s 21st birthday. And then things go horribly, horribly wrong. Alcohol poisoning, angry sorority sisters with twisted hazing rituals, stampeding buffalo and pratfalls from five stories ensue.

Last week, Collider sat down with Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright to discuss their raunchy film. During the interview, we discussed their favorite drinking games, how this film stacks up to other college comedies, why Gwen Stefani plays a big role in the ideal 21st birthday and much more. They even propose a Collider.com theme song.  Hit the jump to watch.

21-and-over-slice

Relativity Media has released a large batch of new high-resolution images from the upcoming college comedy 21 and Over.  Written and directed by The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film stars Justin Chon (Twilight) as a Straight-A student who, on the night of his 21st birthday, has strict orders from his father to rest up for his medical school interview the next morning.  Things go awry when his best friends, played by Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Miles Teller (Footloose), surprise him and take him out for a night of debauchery.  Though the film wasn’t initially on my radar, after seeing Teller’s incredible performance in the Sundance hit The Spectacular Now and Astin’s charming work in Pitch Perfect, I’m hoping we’re in for a great new entry in the college comedy genre.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Sarah Wright, Jonathan Keltz, and Francois Chau21 and Over opens on March 1st.

New Trailer for 21 AND OVER Starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon, and Skylar Astin

Relativity has released a new trailer for 21 and Over, a comedy written and directed by The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.  The hijinks are kicked off when Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Miles Teller (Footloose) surprise their button-downed friend Justin Chon (Twilight) on his 21st birthday.  Although he has an crucial medical school interview the next morning, you can imagine that the boys get into the kind of trouble that can only come from the writers who thought up The Hangover.

21 and Over has a likable young cast, a small touch that should help it land with its target audience (21 and under, natch).  I see enough potential in this and the first to believe in a funny movie with just a bit of heart (friendship is important, guys), but not so much that I’d bet on it.  Watch the trailer after the jump.  21 and Over opens on March 1, 2013.

Exclusive New Images from 21 AND OVER Starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon, and Skylar Astin

21-and-over-slice

Earlier this week we saw the first trailer for the college comedy 21 and Over, and today we’re happy to debut two exclusive new images from the film.  Written and directed by The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the pic stars Justin Chon (Twilight) as a Straight-A student who, on the night of his 21st birthday, has strict orders from his father to rest up for his medical school interview the next morning.  Things go awry when his best friends, played by Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect) and Miles Teller (Footloose), surprise him and take him out for a night of debauchery.  These new images tease some of fallout from said debauchery, as Chon’s character finds himself in a rather precarious position.

Skylar Astin and Anna Camp Talk PITCH PERFECT, Auditions, Favorite Songs in the Film, Improv, Filming Vomit Scenes, Go-To Karaoke Songs and More

The hilarious new comedy Pitch Perfect, from director Jason Moore (Broadway’s Avenue Q) and screenwriter Kay Cannon (New Girl, 30 Rock), tells the story of Beca (Anna Kendrick), a young woman who dreams of being a music producer, but who instead finds herself at Barden University in an all-female a cappella singing group.  With both new takes on old favorites and hits of right now, The Bellas fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college music competitions.  The film also stars Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Adam Devine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks.

At the film’s press junket, co-stars Skylar Astin (who plays Jesse, one of the Treblemakers who also competes for Beca’s affections just as hard as he does the championship title) and Anna Camp (who plays Aubrey, the stubborn and high-strung leader of The Bellas) talked about their audition songs, their favorite songs to sing in the film, their go-to karaoke songs, what it was like to shoot the vomit scenes, how much improvisation went on during shooting, and when they decided they wanted to get into acting.  Camp also talked about her role in the new Fox comedy series The Mindy Project, starring Mindy Kaling, and Astin talked about his upcoming comedy 21 and Over, from the writers of The Hangover, and they both revealed which musical they’d love to be in the movie version of.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.
