Open Road has released eight new images from Chef, written and directed by Jon Favreau. Favreau also stars as Carl Casper, a chef who loses his job and opens a food truck with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo), and his son (Emjay Anthony) to recapture his artistic promise. After years of big-budget fare like Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, Favreau is scaling back for his latest effort—well, except for the cast. Scarlett Johansson, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, and Robert Downey, Jr. co-star.
Chef premieres at SXSW in March before hitting theaters May 9. Check out the images after the jump.
Though Reese Witherspoon just dropped out of the next Nancy Meyers film, she already has another project moving forward rather quickly. Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara attached themselves to the MGM comedy Don’t Mess with Texas last year, and now the film has found its director. Deadline reports that The Proposal and 27 Dresses director Anne Fletcher has entered talks to helm the pic, which is aiming to begin production this spring in order to coincide with Vergara’s hiatus from ABC’s Modern Family. Written by David Feeney and John Quaintance, the project is described as a female-driven Midnight Run and revolves around a police officer (Witherspoon) and a prisoner (Vergara) who are forced to go on the run together.
Fletcher last directed the Seth Rogen/Barbra Streisand road trip comedy The Guilt Trip. Witherspoon most recently wrapped Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Valle’s new film Wild and she’ll be seen later this year in Inherent Vice. Vergara, meanwhile, appears in Jon Favreau’s Chef, opening this May.
One of the first posters for Machete Kills focused on the fact that Sofia Vergara’s character had a bra that doubled as a chain-gun. It was a cute concept, but Open Road Pictures seems bent on driving that joke into the ground. They’ve released a new clip that once again puts the focus on Vergara’s breasts, and while I’m sure male audience members aren’t going to complain, it’s a little lame at this point. It’s also a sign that Machete (Danny Trejo) is probably a small part of his own movie yet again. Then again, the real star of Machete and Machete Kills are hokey gimmicks, and the bra gun certainly qualifies.
Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alex Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson. Machete Kills opens October 11th.
Ten new images have been released from Robert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills. The film centers on Machete’s (Danny Trejo) quest to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has plans to spread war and anarchy across the planet. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, it looks like more of the same, so if you liked the original Machete, then Machete Kills should be right up your alley of violence and mayhem. The movie is set to screen this evening as the opener of Fantastic Fest 2013, so expect some reactions to start hitting the Internet later tonight.

A new red-band trailer for director Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming sequel Machete Kills has been released online, and it’s just the right amount of silly. The film centers on Machete’s (Danny Trejo) quest to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has plans to spread war and anarchy across the planet. The trailer shows off plenty of unbridled carnage at the hands of Trejo’s Machete, but we also get to see more of Mel Gibson’s villainous character, who describes himself as a “fucker-people-upper.” It remains to be seen whether the film will be fun and absurd rather than just absurd, but it looks like we’ll get to see one hell of a Mel Gibson performance regardless.

The first clip from director Robert Rodriguez’s sequel Machete Kills has landed online, and it’s fittingly ridiculous. The film centers on Machete’s (Danny Trejo) quest to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has plans to spread war and anarchy across the planet. In this clip, we see a car chase between Trejo’s Machete and a car full of angry women, including Sofia Vergara, Alex Vega, and Lady Gaga. The clip not only shows a gun-wielding, cigarette-toting Lady Gaga crash hard, but we also see Vergara go after Machete with a couple of interestingly placed weapons.

Machete Kills will open Fantastic Fest 2013, and opens in wide release on October 11th. [Update: Open Road Films has asked us to remove the clip as it has not officially be approved for release yet.]
John Turturro is one of the great character actors of our time, equally at home carrying a Coen Brothers movie, stealing scenes for Adam Sandler, getting vicious for Spike Lee or bouncing off CGI Transformers with Michael Bay. He’ll probably always be best know for his performance of everyone’s favorite bowling pederast named Jesus in The Big Lebowski, just because it’s one of the funniest characters of all time. However, his rich career spanning almost 100 movies is undeniably impressive and he’s also carved out a small side career as a director of stage and screen. This year Turturro brought his latest directorial to the Toronto International Film Festival and it’s certainly an odd one. In Fading Gigolo, Turturro plays a high end New York escort who is pimped out by none other than Woody Allen. Written and directed by Turturro, it’s a charming little oddball comedy that makes the most out of that pretty brilliant New York character comedy duo.
Collider got a chance to chat with Turturro and co-star Sofia Vergara (who plays one of his many clients in the film) during TIFF. The chat delved into everything from the challenges of writing for Woody, the strange nature of directing yourself, and even that long rumored Jesus-centric Big Lebowski sequel that will hopefully be made some day. As part of their fall preview, Entertainment Weekly has released new images from some upcoming films. There are images from potential awards contenders like Spike Jonze‘s Her, Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity, Paul Greengrass‘ Captain Phillips, Peter Berg‘s Lone Survivor, and the AIDS drama Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey. And there are also some images from Machete Kills and 47 Ronin, which probably will be left out of the awards race, but that’s only because the Academy refuses to acknowledge the superb craft of strapping guns to Sofia Vergara‘s breasts.

The first trailer and image for writer/director John Turturro’s new film Fading Gigolo has landed online. Turturro also stars in the pic alongside Woody Allen as two cash-strapped best friends who decide to go into the gigolo business together. Allen acts as the pimp, setting up the many dates for Turturro’s character. Despite the semi-outlandish premise, the film looks to be a rather charming New York story with a swell acting turn from Allen. The pic has been added to the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival lineup, so we can expect first reactions to flow in next month.

A new trailer has been released for Robert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills. The film centers on Machete’s (Danny Trejo) quest to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has plans to spread war and anarchy across the planet. This new trailer provides more of a “plot” synopsis, but mostly gives us a look at the supporting cast, which includes Lady Gaga, Cuba Gooding Jr., Antonio Banderas, and Mel Gibson as the villain. Judging by this new trailer, Rodriguez has run out of ways to make Machete fun and interesting, and is now just making a really long Funny or Die video where celebrities briefly take on ridiculous roles.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alex Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, William Sadler, and Marko Zaror. Machete Kills will open Fantastic Fest 2013, and opens in wide release on October 11th.
Jon Favreau’s next film has secured distribution. The Iron Man director’s upcoming comedy Chef has been acquired by Open Road Films, which will release the pic on May 9, 2014. Favreau wrote the script and will both direct and star in the film, which centers on Carl Casper, a man who starts up a food truck business in the hopes of reestablishing his artistic promise after he loses his job as a chef, all the while trying to reconnect with his estranged family. Favreau will play Casper alongside an impressive supporting cast that includes Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, John Leguizamo, and Robert Downey Jr.
Chef marks a return to smaller character-centric films for Favreau after his recent blockbuster turns with the first two Iron Man films and Cowboys & Aliens. Production on the pic is set to begin next month in Los Angeles, and the comedy will be opening one week after Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and one week before WB’s Godzilla on that May release date. The only other film currently slated for release on May 9th—Mother’s Day weekend—is Tyler Perry’s Single Mom’s Club. Hit the jump to read the full press release.
File this one away in your “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” game: Reese Witherspoon (Mud) and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) are set to team up on screen for Don’t Mess with Texas. Universal won a bidding war for the comedy spec script from screenwriters John Quaintance and David Feeney (Ben and Kate). Witherspoon will produce with Bruna Papandrea through their Pacific Standard banner along with Dana Fox, who both wrote for and executive produced the recently-canceled Ben and Kate. The fast-tracked picture is expecting to start production next March. Hit the jump for more.
Open Road Films has released the first trailer for director Robert Rodriguez’s sequel Machete Kills. The film centers on Machete’s (Danny Trejo) quest to stop an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has plans to spread war and anarchy across the planet. This trailer was released on Yahoo!’s Spanish-language site, but the dialogue is in English. It looks like fun, but so did Machete, which made Trejo a supporting character in his own movie. A large cast is fun, but Rodriguez always seems to have trouble finding the right balance (he had the same problem with Once Upon a Time in Mexico). Hopefully, Machete Kills will be an improvement on the first film. [Update: We've added the English-language version, which is the same except now English-language speakers can understand the narration]

The film also stars Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alex Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson. Machete Kills opens September 13th.
Not to be confused with the John Wells-directed drama of the same name starring Bradley Cooper, Jon Favreau’s Chef will instead be an indie comedy both directed by and starring Favreau himself. Joining him will be the world-renowned billionaire-playboy-philanthropist
Tony Stark Robert Downey Jr. The story centers on “a man (Favreau) who loses his chef job and starts up a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise and reclaiming his estranged family.” Also starring are Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale. Hit the jump for casting news for Nicole Kidman and Stephen Lang.
